Well here we go again with an amazing culinary foodie treat!! I'm a little behind on this review but could not go without sharing ones experiance at this amazing establishment! So here goes. I started following Kingsland Kitchen on Facebook last year and was intrigued to indulge in a culinary adventure at this establishment on my next trip to Portland! Fast forward a few months and I was getting that opportunity! Perfectly located outside the Embassy Suites (our lodging of choice) so not far to travel in the morning which made it amazing after a night of libations!! The minute we walked in we were hit with the aromas of amazing fresh ingredients being cooked out of sight which made my mouth water uncontrollably! Our waiter (I'm assuming was their head waiter) was extremely friendly and knowlegable about not only the dishes but also the origin on which the establishment is based, so not only did we completly enjoy the food and drinks we also learned a bit about British cuisine along the way!! Let's get to what we ordered and get your taste buds doing back flips! I chose the highly recommended, and apparently hard to get due to selling out on a daily basis, Hollis Hashbrown casserole!! This my fellow foodies is a must on your bucket list of amazing food experiences. So much can be said for the depths of flavor, the perfectly cooked sunny side up egg it was topped with (not a bit of burnt edges) not to mention the house made chipotle sauce that accompanied it, but the star of this dish my friends is the over night braised short rib!!! I don't know where to begin and I certainly can't due it proper justice in my explanation, just know this, it resembles a high end, extremely tender melt in your mouth oxtail!! An absolute mouthwatering must try! You certinaly won't regret it nor will you ever forget it, trust me! My lady dove into the Eggs Benedict (being the Benedict officanado she is) as I would have expected. Again we could discuss the perfectly poached eggs or the amazing house made Hollandaise which were all so over the top incredible but yet once again the protein was the star!! A house smoked ham that was absolutly a perfect fit!!
During our visit we had a plethera of the house made cocktails on the menu, all of which were amazing!! However, do yourself a favor and get the mother's milk you won't regret it!! My favorite drink by far!
To wrap this up the best way I possible can let me just tell you this, the food and service were so amazing we went back the next two days and indulged in such items as the Full English Breakfast and The house made Biscuits and Gravy.!! I could go on and on but just believe me when I say the Gravy is insanly out if this world and the Black pudding is a must try smoky morsel you won't soon forget!
I'll end by saying this, Chef Chris Payne and his lovely wife Holli have hit their spin on British food out of the park! The atmosphere and friendly knowlegable staff were just the topping to this wonderful culinary experience! We will be regulars when in town and I highly suggest you are as well!
Absolutly Amazing!
Bon Appetite and thank...
Read moreLet me start this review by saying the food and the presentation were great. That was the good. Everything else about our breakfast/brunch was exceptionally poor and almost demeaning. The treatment by the wait staff was amongst the worst we’ve ever experienced. One server in particular was so rude we don’t understand why she is even working in the hospitality business.
We chose this spot for a Black Friday breakfast and called ahead to make a reservation. Upon arrival, the hostess said ‘do you have a reservation?’ No hello or anything. We said we did and were shown to our table. The server arrived and that’s when everything went further south. We ordered mimosas for the table and asked to have our water glasses cleared. They failed to clear the table and so we moved some of them to a counter height table along the windows where no one was seated and they hadn’t yet cleaned from the previous guests. Our server came back and quite loudly and rudely said ‘wow, yeah you can’t just place your glasses here, now we’re going to have to clean the table again.’ Bear in mind, this table wasn’t even cleaned yet. She placed our glasses back on our table. We then ordered our food and a few of us decided to share. The menu clearly says there is a $5 charge for shared plates which is quite ridiculous but since it was written, so be it. For the $5 they brought us an extra empty plate. Literally that was it. They didn’t portion out the food or even bother cutting the burrito we shared. When we asked them to cut our burrito the server said, ‘we don’t cut the food, some people are weird and don’t like the way we cut it and so you can cut it yourself.’ With a butter knife? We asked for a sharp knife and they brought it out after the food was already starting to cool. I asked for a second ‘round of mimosas’ and the same rude and obnoxious server said ‘what are you asking for?’ I said ‘sorry the mimosa to share, thanks.’ She gave me a sideways look and stormed off. We ordered the same thing before for our party of 6 and apologies I didn’t call it by your lame menu name. We couldn’t be happier when we asked for the check, paid and were on our way.
Basically, don’t bother with this place! While the food is great, the service is the absolute worst I’ve ever experienced and there is far better food and exponentially better service at the...
Read moreThis place was honestly a bummer because the menu sounded really good, the vibe was cool and the staff were very friendly but the food just fell really short.
I ordered the Eton Mess Pancakes and a Denver omelette and although the plating was pretty the quality of the dish made it feel a bit snobby. The pancakes were bland, most likely from a box, I'd be surprised if the batter was made from scratch. The cotton candy didn't really add much aside from being gimmicky, in all honesty I thought it would be a cotton candy inspired sauce not literal cotton candy. Overall the pancakes were fine but you're paying premium prices for, quite honestly, mediocre flavor which again is why I'm fairly certain it came from a premade box.
Now, the real issue came with the Denver "Omelet" I'll attach some pics but basically it should have been called a cheese omelet on top of ham and peppers. The eggs were somehow cooked but still bright yellow. The cheese was not fully melted but it's possible it can't melt because it's likely bagged shredded cheese. Finally, the peppers. I couldn't figure out how they were cooked, but had no char. My buddy pointed out they were probably microwaved which again, you're paying premium prices so bare minimum I think it's fair to expect the peppers, or any vegetable for that matter, to be sauteed in a pan with some butter or oil. To top it off, the side salad was very clearly a day or so past when it should have been binned because it was almost entirely wilting and some were so bad they were actually slimy.
I also ordered an Irish coffee because why not it's Sunday and, it was alright.
All in all, super bummed with this one. The menu sounds very nice and would be if the ingredients were fresh and recipes made in house. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. Maybe it was an off day for the kitchen with it being a holiday week. Maybe the regular cooks were not available or the procurement manager for ingredients was out but I ended up paying $55 dollars after tip which is premium dollars but it felt like I was eating at a basic...
