McMenamins Hillsdale Brewery & Public House — Restaurant in Portland

Chefs = Great, Service = BAD 2hr. dining experience due to all the extra time waiting on our server, food only took 25 mins. It was a little busy at first and they had one bartender & server working so maybe someone called out? As a server myself I feel that, but our brunette server had absolutely NO hustle while busy or not… It was over 10 mins to be greeted/get waters, and the place had cleared out at that point there were only ~4 tables. She was nice but spent 20 mins just chatting with one of her 3 tables, went to table #2 (her friends) and spent 10 mins chatting at that one… So when she FINALLY came to cash us out after 30+ mins up boxed up food and 5 people ready to leave, she said ooops sorry kept getting caught up in convo. Girly we knowww😭 Grandma’s an angel but her face was priceless. 😂 I rarely leave bad reviews but it was just WAYY too painful to watch as a server myself, you have to let people know you gotta step out to check on other tables or run food, it is not hard to do so - and the other table were her friends (who she sat down and snacked with after we paid, until we left she was still sitting there and did not say thank you/bye or even come get the card reader) but anyway should’ve been even easier to tell your friends you gotta go do your job and cash out your last table no? It was over 10 mins of everyone being done eating until she checked in so we could ask for a box and water refills too. Maybe she’s new but damn I doubt we’ll be back to...

If you are in need of a straightforward and relaxing place to grab a bite of comfort food, McMenamins Hillsdale is a great choice. I have dined here dozens of times and the food is always satisfying. They have a great selection of burgers, sandwiches, and salad. My personal favorite is Wilbur's Jumbo Deluxe Cheeseburger. Pro Tip: No matter what you decide on, always order Cajun tots for your side. They also of course have McMenamins ales and wine available, which is usually a hit with the 21+ crowd.

Recently I ordered to-go food, which I was satisfied with. I love dining-in and ordering a beer on the patio, but that is not an option at this time. Nonetheless, this McMenamins is taking hygiene seriously. They have turned the entrance into an order window, and all employees are wearing personal protection equipment. However, they don’t have a way to order online, and when I tried calling the line was busy. When I ordered straight from the window, the food was ready between 15-20 minutes, which wasn’t too bad. Yet, they were also out of a soda and Ruby ale, so I had to make some compromises on the fly.

Overall, I am glad to be reunited with a great burger and Cajun tots. But I really hope they come up with a way to order online soon. This would be so much more efficient, and would allow customers to better prepare for when certain foods and drinks are...

A charming and welcoming atmosphere with delicious food. The location is great with a nice large patio we'll definitely be back to enjoy. Ou server was friendly and the service was prompt. We had the Portland Dip and the Patty Melt and both were fantastic. I highly recommend the tots (truffle is the best!). Scooby snacks are always a great starter, especially with the Portland mustard.
