We had a very bad experience yesterday. We ordered red curry chicken, and the food was alright. Nothing to write home about. The biggest problem was that both me and my friend forgot our wallets, and only were able to pay $10 on the spot out of the $16 we owed. I told them that I am really sorry, and I can phone my card info in to pay once we get home. He was very hostile and paranoid, and refused to let us leave the store. He told me to call a friend to come bail me out or i could not leave. I told him I can not call anyone to come here and "bail" me out, especially for something as little as $6!!! And why was he being so paranoid and hostile, as if the amount was $60 or $600!
In the end, he would not let us leave, and I was forced to leave my phone at the restaurant in deep humiliation as collateral , and drive all the way back to my house, which was 12 minutes away and drive back to pay him 6$.
This is NOT how you treat a customer. This is NOT a third world country.. Sometimes people forget things! You do not treat a customer in this way. If I was the manager, I would have footed the bill, and told them to politely remember their wallets next time.
Absolutely dreadful experience. If someone was willing to go through all that hassle for $6, I would think twice about trusting their food. They seemed PARANOID to be losing $6. And it was not like I would not have called in to pay them, as I do not believe...
Read moreCity Thai has consistently excellent food, service. And the atmosphere just makes you wanna hang out and relax. I’ve been to many of the local Thai restaurants in the Portland area. And many of them have the flavors that you expect, but aren’t exceptional or make you feel that you’re getting something new or with a special touch. But City Thai delivers that experience every time. With seasonal rotating menus. With a unique twist on almost every dish. And having popular items make it hard to choose what you want.
Most people when they go to a Thai restaurant they’ll order pad, Thai or curry. Yet this restaurant makes it very easy to step out of your comfort zone with recognizable ingredients and a unique slightly Americanized approach to authentic Thai cuisine. Yet it still feels unique enough to where it breaks out of the normal traditional Thai restaurant experience in a good way.
You won’t be disappointed with the quality of the food, the attentive, kind, and polite servers And the overall vibe and ambience.
You can tell the employees like their jobs that relax and they know what they’re doing. And the experience has always been a positive one. Make sure you consider this place next time you want Thai food and I guarantee you’ll find your next...
Read moreCity Thai in Hillsdale is truly one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Portland. The atmosphere is cute, cozy, and welcoming, and the food has a more authentic Thai taste compared to many other places in the city that tend to make dishes too sweet. My go-to favorites are pork dumplings, and the Thai-style shrimp paella rice—all cooked to perfection and full of flavor.
The owner(Summer) is incredibly kind, caring, and always makes me feel at home. The service here is both warm and professional, with staff who are attentive and always smiling. Another thing I love is that they change their seasonal menu every six months, which keeps the dining experience fresh and exciting.
If you’re looking for authentic Thai cuisine with consistent quality, a cozy atmosphere, and genuinely friendly service, City Thai is a place I...
