I've been to Casa Colima several times over the past several years. The atmosphere is very fun, and the staff has always been very nice, which makes up for the fact that the quality of food is not particularly good. However, the last time I went, I ordered the veggie burrito from the vegetarian menu - I am vegetarian - and the server asked if I wanted to remove the rice, because it has chicken broth in it. I’ve never been told that before by other servers when I’ve ordered it.
I’m not 100% sure that it was the previous servers who did not know that it had chicken in it, or if it was that particular server who is wrong that it does have chicken in in. (It’s fairly common for Mexican restaurant to put animal fat in their rice and beans.) So I flagged down the manager. Instead of checking in with the kitchen, he just asked our server about it in Spanish, and got the same answer from the server as we did (unsurprisingly). He didn’t even bother coming back to us to help straighten things out. On their website they have a contact form, and I’ve sent two inquiries to them, and they have not responded in weeks.
If they’ve been serving a product with chicken in it for years on their vegetarian menu, that is very very bad, not just for vegetarians but for those with allergies. And it is also very very bad if the manager doesn’t know what’s in the food and doesn’t check, and it’s very bad if the servers (either that day’s server, or the past ones) also don’t know. And it is bad if they have a contact form on their website but don’t respond to those who send messages with it.
I will never go there again, and I encourage others to think twice about any place that can’t tell you what’s in the...
Read moreRESPONSE TO OWNER/MANAGEMENT THIS POST IS ABOUT 2 YEARS OLD. TO WHOEVER TRIED TO SAY I AM CONFUSED- YOU ARE THE 1 WHO IS CONFUSED. ALSO I HAVE NEVER BEEN BACK. YOUR ATTEMPT TO LIE & DISCREDIT ME JUST GUARANTEED THAT I WON'T RETURN. I SUGGEST YOU TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION. My boyfriend and I (both of us appear white, neither of us are 100%, I am actually Hispanic) were interested in trying a new Mexican place.I saw that this place had good ratings, and was open late- so I was looking forward to giving this place of shot. When we got to the door, we were carded & my boyfriend was frisked, and he was asked to put his baton that was in his pocket back in the car. Then my purse was searched; after that I was asked to put my water bottle back in the car. We were both checked before we even got inside- then we were asked to show ID again. I informed the host that we had already been carded. The scowling stares that the security guards gave us- did not waiver after I mentioned that we had already been carded. We had a nice seat in the dining room, since we expressed that we didn't want to drink booze, and we were only there for food. Apparently the menu gets paired down after 11 PM. There was nothing available for vegans. There were only meat and seafood options- then we decided to leave, because not only did we feel very unwelcome, and discriminated against but, we also couldn't even eat there. Maybe I will come back before 11 PM, but with these dirty looks given by the security guards for trying to eat dinner; that does not really make me want...
Read moreA Mexican food restaurant with happy vibrant decor and seating available for walk ins (at least on TH evening). My husband had the chicken diablo (which was indeed spicy, we often don't believe spicy will actually be spicy but this is) and I enjoyed the chicken enchiladas suizas. The chicken in my enchiladas was moist and flavorful... where often I get rather bland chicken... and I enjoyed that. We also had the tableside guacamole which was very pretty. It is more chunky and heavy on the tomato/onion/cilantro etc. ingredients but still flavorful. The only thing that was disappointing for us was the salsa which we found more heavily tomato-based than we tend to like but that's a matter of taste. We like spicy, smoky or ?
Updated - we went back recently (May 2023) and were disappointed. The food we got lacked flavor and was very simply prepared... my husband regretted not getting the chicken diablo saying that his burrito contained relatively unseasoned chicken and was boring. I got a quesadilla and the cheese was entirely tasteless. I gave the rest to grateful doggies at home, I just couldn't finish it. We apologize, we wanted to like this restaurant but the food is just no where near where we like it. Good Mexican food is flavorful, spicy and...
