My boyfriend and I were very excited to have a new Cajun - Asian infusion restaurant in our neighborhood. I was surprised to see such a large variety of dishes on the menu, though many items were unavailable when we ordered. I recognize that there are alot of issues with restaurant supply chains so the negative review isn't about that issue. I ordered a seafood boil. If you are looking for an overpriced disappointment, definitely order a boil/seafood combo. The portion size was decent, but the food was terrible. The ingredients were very obviously not boiled in a regular seafood boil base. The undercooked potatoes and the WAY overcooked/dry seafood, including the un-deveined shrimp, were very bland. They were tossed in some sort of garlic/spice paste, which was not horrible, but very underwhelming due to a lack of spice, garlic, butter, and lemon that you would normally get from a properly done seafood boil. It didn't cover up the blandness of the improperly boiled ingredients (note to the restaurant - 15-20 minutes is not long enough of a cook time for this kind of dish, you can't start cooking the seafood at the same as the rest of the ingredients). Andoulli sausage is better for a boil than the sausage used here. Also, the egg is highly unnecessary. my boyfriend ordered the kimchee hot pot. He said it was mediocre, and had the same issues with the shrimp as listed above. I think Tango Crab is over their head with the expansive menu. You shouldn't have seafood boils and hot pots if you can't cook seafood properly. I wouldn't be opposed to trying them out again, but I will not be...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Tango Crab, a Chinese restaurant tucked away in Portland, OR, and let me tell you, it was an absolute delight! Don’t be fooled by the unassuming location or simple decor; the flavors that await you here are nothing short of extraordinary.
For starters, I tried their wontons in chili sauce, and I was blown away. The delicate dumplings were perfectly cooked, and the chili sauce had just the right amount of kick to tantalize my taste buds without overwhelming them. Each bite was a harmonious blend of textures and flavors that left me craving more.
But the true star of the show was the crab and shrimp boil. Words cannot do justice to the explosion of flavors that awaited me in that bowl. The succulent crab and shrimp were cooked to perfection, soaking up the aromatic spices and seasonings. Every bite was a journey of sweet and savory notes, complemented by the freshest seafood.
The service at Tango Crab was warm and attentive, adding to the overall wonderful dining experience. The staff was knowledgeable and eager to recommend their specialties, ensuring I had the best possible meal.
Whether you’re a local or visiting Portland, Tango Crab is a hidden gem that deserves your attention. From the lip-smacking wontons in chili sauce to the unforgettable crab and shrimp boil, this restaurant showcases the true essence of Chinese cuisine. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised by the culinary treasures that await you, despite the unassuming exterior. Tango Crab is a definite must-visit for food...
Read moreI don't normally take the time to make negative reviews, but dang buddy, most of the food we got didn't hit bare minimum. We ordered General Tso's Chicken, House Lo Mein, and the Green Bean Chicken. Caveats: picked this up from like 8 min away, so I do understand it's "takeout" and not "dine in" quality.
General Tso's chicken was alright. Nothing to write home about, but it hit the flavor profile just fine. B+. Would be nice if it was a bit crunchier, but I chalk that up to the driving time.
Lo Mein noodles were boring af and very low flavor. I've had better lo mein that was microwaved from one of those pre-packaged meals you pick up from the supermarket. If it was priced for this, I wouldn't mind, but if I'm paying $18 for a noodle dish, I expect more than this. It had none of the browning flavor you'd expect from a fried noodle dish.
The Green Bean Chicken was the worst offender and why I've taken the time to include a picture. This too, was $18, and, I'm not exaggerating here, was roughly just boiled green beans and chicken. Maybe a light salty flavor and a hint of oil. And that was it. Boiled chicken and green beans with no rice. Ridiculous. For $18?? Look at that picture.
Staff was totally fine and they were pleasant to interact with. Only problem we have is with the food.
And no white rice with three entrees!?!?! You're saving what, 50 cents? A...
