We were given a $15 gift certificate by our realtor after we bought our house here in this town about 3 months ago. We were pleasantly surprised to see this place was actually MORE than its name of just a coffee house. We finally came to use our gift certificate for a late breakfast about a week ago.

... ... We were seated by a male host. After SEVERAL minutes the server walked by us to a table that had come in behind us. I ignored it because I was super hungry and really wanting to like this place. But she kept walking by us to this other table that came in after us and nobody was greeting us AT ALL. My husband was getting more and more agitated...so I began looking around up from the menu to see what was going on. I looked back at the host and he's standing at the back rolling silverware. 😳🤦🏻‍♀️

Okay,...he could be coming to at least get our drink order while he figured out where our server was. But he was oblivious! Bad training!

Two more times the server WALKED past us without a word. Nope. At this point I can't handle it. If she was busy, fine. If she accidentally got that other table before us, fine. But YOU AT LEAST GREET THE TABLE...☹️😐 How can you not notice a table of guests sitting for an EXTENDED period of time near you ...without feeling moved or obligated to greet them and if you're not their server-FIND THEIR SERVER. IF YOURE THE ONLY SERVER AND YOU JUST CANT TAKE THEM GET A MANAGER*!!! You do not ignore them!!!

I couldn't handle it, I said, okay honey we can go. He muttered angrily THANK YOU!

And we walked out. PAST the host. Past the server. Past the to go counter. Nothing.

My husband said he doesn't care how much free certificates we have or how much HES PAID to go back, he will never go back.

So I gave our gift certificate to my niece...😑☹️...

It's too bad because this town is very small and there's not much...

Okay so first up, I have not had much here. I've only been here once. I got one item. This review is about one thing: their matcha.

If you think "oh I'll go and try their matcha"—don't. It sucks. It's the worst I've ever had. Color is dull, and it basically tastes like blended up oreo middles with the most vague hint of matcha flavor. Price is a lot for a "large," too.

Big shock, Dunkin down the road serves something that tastes much closer to matcha (I mean it isn't high end stuff but the flavor is more accurate). This tastes like vanilla cookie cream blended with milk that once sat near matcha 10 years ago.

......Yeah, I can't help it, I was hoping for something way better, haha.

BUT. B. U. T. This likely is NO reflection on their coffee. Most people in Portland haven't had good matcha probably so it's not like they have to prioritize such a relatively niche menu item. So I only knocked one star off of a five star review.

I do plan on coming back to try their coffees, and food. They're a COFFEE house so there's no need for me to get all knock-star-off-happy over tea! :) I saw them grind beans fresh for an espresso so I have some confidence that their coffee will be decent or better. So I'll adjust the review on my next trip.

The atmosphere is nice.

There are two counters, go to the one where there are people, natch.

It smelled nice, of course.

(You also get the smell of frying tortillas next door which is delightful, IMO, haha.)

But yeah, prolly go for coffee, don't get their...

I specifically asked my waiter to make sure my sausage sandwich with eggs did not have pork belly on the sandwich. After waiting 43 minutes, it was brought out with a huge slab of pork belly on top of the sandwich. I asked to speak to the manager who was instantly very rude and snappy with me, like I had done something wrong. He instantly had a bad attitude and could care less about the situation, or how to resolve the problem. He never made an attempt at correcting the problem. I live here in Portland and this would have been a regular visited spot to eat, however, I will never step foot back in this place. I just about got sick in the plate, seriously, when looking at what they brought out. Horribly disgusting!! Ridiculous!! Absolutely ridiculous service, ridiculous wait, with hideous food. The manager is an absolute nightmare of a joke to deal with, as my mom owned five restaurants throughout the many years she served her customers. He is at the wrong job with certainly the wrong skill set to deal with customers. I've never seen any manager act the way he did towards me, in my life, at any place of buisness. I can honestly say this is the worst service, at the worst restaurant, I've ever been put in, while...

The visit started off well. The ambience was great and the menu had lots of creative options. I went with the Classic Benny. The eggs Benedict dish did not mention avocado so I didn’t ask to omit that. After it came, slathered with avocado, we tried repeatedly to get our server to come to the table to see if I could get a plain toasted muffin. She did not come until we finished the meal- at that point I’d just eaten the ham and eggs alone. We pointed out the avocado English muffin to her and she pulled up the menu on her tablet and said it wasn’t listed on there either so it wasn’t her fault. There was no attempt to rectify the situation. I would’ve been satisfied with just an apology. I was more upset at her reply than the fact that they added something to the dish that wasn’t stated on the menu. I probably would not return when visiting Portland again.

Was able to check off a restaurant from my list...Milo Cafe in Portland, TN. While this is a specialty coffee shop with food it is much more. There are games and books that people can read/play while enjoying the coffee served here...more like a community spot versus just a restaurant. The coffee...I had an Americano that was really good and the beans used were from a Nashville roaster. I tried the Cuban and it was a solid sandwich served with a side salad and the house potatoes. Now while the sandwich was good...those house potatoes were exceptional. But overall...the lunch special is a solid deal. I need to try and sample the breakfast menu here too.

Fantastic food? Proper cappuccino? In Portland??? I'm not sure how this happened but I'm so glad we finally have a breakfast place that's not only worth going to it's actually dang delicious! The My favorite is the Huevos con Chile (eggs over chorizo, potatoes and cheese.) Also had a couple sandwiches that hit the spot. We had basically given up finding anything edible in this town, now we're here every week. This is a huge and welcome surprise. If you haven't tried Milo yet, go check it out, support this business and prove we deserve nice things!
