Note: There are a few other food trucks/establishments here as well so or your companion(s) have other choices. We got a beef fajita burrito, fish tacos, and the Mexican sweet corn on the cob. The burrito was below average in our opinion, a little salty and just "meh" / bland too much rice and not enough of the other stuff. The salsas they gave us helped give it a slightly below average grade. The fish in the fish tacos reminded me of some kind of salty "fish jerky" if there is such a thing -- it was cooked to a crisp, and was incredibly salty. Maybe this is a "thing" and people like this? The rest of the elements of the fish tacos were pretty good but didn't salvage the overall salty flavor of the dish. The Mexican corn on the cob was a solid A+ ! And, it actually helped lessen the saltiness / blandness of the tacos & burrito if you took some bites of it as a chaser. One thing we were confused about is this place is a "Birrieria" which I assume is the equivalent of a "Tacqueria" (?) but with Birria being a focal point? If that's the case, why was it so hard to find on the menu? Shouldn't a small bowl of it be served with any dish on the menu? Or at least offered easily to find on the side-- Seems like only a few of the choices on the menu even came with birria, and we didn't see it offered as a side (?) but maybe we missed that. Would it have rescued these dishes? Not sure. We should have asked about it but were too exited to get started eating. Thoughts: When you read reviews of others on anything you must take it in context. Without a knowledge of what other similar things they like, it's hard to know if a review is really relevant for you. For some, they are easy to please. My best experiences with Mexican food in Portland metro area over the years have been at sit down places like Taqueria La Fuente in Tigard, Los Potrillos Mexican Restaurant & Bar in Vancouver, and the well known Chipotle chain. My wife is harder to please and compares any new Mexican restaurant with one she found in Phoenix Arizona. She found a video floating around social media of this particular establishment cooking up some good food and read some good reviews, so we went. We wanted to love it but unfortunately, I don't think we will be back. Maybe there were better dishes we should have...
Read moreThe food is great but there are some major communication issues with the business that need to improve before I’ll be back. I wanted to come by for breakfast, which according to the menu is served from 8-11am. However according to Google, they weren’t even open until 10 and according to their website, not until 11. So I had to give up on breakfast, not knowing what the deal was there. Regardless, I looked at the menu online and picked a couple of things that sounded really good, but when I got to the cart, they did not have most of those items on the menu. I picked something I was less excited about from the much smaller menu on the cart and ordered it to go. Then when it was ready and I picked it up, it was not packaged to go because the guy who took my order apparently left right after and didn’t tell the guy who prepared it that it was a to go order. It wasn’t packaged very well and I had a long walk home with it after that. A minor but frustrating issue in light of the rest of my experience. Not being able to know ahead of time what I can get or even when I can get it means I won’t be coming back any time soon, unfortunately. But I’d still say you should give this place a try if you are already...
Read moreThis place is amazing! We got the birria plate and the birria nachos. Delicious. The beans and rice are also very good. I feel like a lot of places have good meat but the beans and rice are phoned in but this place is good all around. I'll definitely be back.
I only had one minor quibble which is that I asked for no onions and I think maybe they didn't hear me or something, so if you have a allergy or sensitivity make sure you emphasize it if you want to hold something. I have an intolerance to raw onions. Not a big deal for me, I just picked them off.
Enough people in the neighborhood agree that it's good so the wait gets long when it's busy. That's not on them, that's just a sign of how good they are. It's just good to know if you are in a hurry. To be fair I was ordering on a Friday night dinner rush on a nice evening.
There are tables too so you can eat there. The traffic on Prescott is a little...
