03/09/2022: 4.75 out of 5 - Went out after my workout with my Wednesday group, and the group wanted to try a new place we saw and had read about. So, Poke Box Sushi Bar for dinner it was!
Upon entering, the staff were quick to address us and get us seated. We definitely came in at a good time. The eatery wasn't busy. Although it wasn't busy, the staff behind the sushi bar had stuff going on, but everyone were friendly and attentive, which obviously makes a more enjoyable experience as new patrons.
The establishment is kept very clean. The tables were nicely spaced with clean chairs. The bathroom was kept very clean, which is a big plus. Also, I do often check out the vents above at every eatery I go to, which were very clean at the Poke Box Sushi Bar.
Everything on the menu looked appetizing. So, we ordered a handful of rolls. I had ordered and enjoyed the Yuzu Lager, which I've had before. It's very tasty if you've never had it. Worth the try.
Everything was made to order, and the presentation was great! It made the time at Poke Box, in a sense, a little more fun. One thing to note, there's nothing fried on the menu.
We were all able to sample the rolls ordered. Admittedly, it seemed like a lot, but we realized it was so good that it just didn't last for very long.
Our food for the night was exceptional.
All in all, at the end of any meal I often will ask, "Would you come back?" My answer? Absolutely! The staff are great, the food and drinks are tasty, and the establishment doesn't partake in any form of discrimination. Also, I would like to try many of the other menu items next time around.
So, as I always say, if you ever get a chance, definitely try it once and decide for...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying that PokeBox was one of my top 5 restaurants in Portland, so I have a ton of love for this place. I'm vegetarian and PokeBox is the only sushi spot I've found in my life with the variety of vegetarian rolls it has…or should I say "had." I went in a few months ago and found out that there was a change in ownership and a whole new menu. The new menu is much bigger than the old menu, but it took away nearly every interesting vegetarian option. I love being able to get fun specialty sushi rolls that were more than just avocado and cucumber.
The new-to-me employee heard me out and even did his best to make one of the rolls from the old menu that I liked, which was extremely kind of him. He said I brought up a good point and maybe they'd add back some of the vegetarian specialty rolls. I haven't come across that change yet, so I haven't been back, but I miss having PokeBox terribly!
PokeBox was where I met friends for lunch, went for my birthday, brought family from out of town to try, and even was our Valentine's dinner date spot. I hope to hear that the more unique vegetarian options have been reinstated! I'd love to have my...
Read moreWhat a hidden gem! We stumbled upon Poke Box Sushi this week and could not be more impressed. Arriving right at the beginning of lunch hour with a group of six, we were surprised to find the place quiet, but received immediate and thoughtful service. The staff (possibly the owner) warmly welcomed us, helped arrange tables for our group, and brought water and menus right away.
The menu strikes a perfect balance between creative and classic, offering everything from sushi rolls and poke bowls to sushi burritos, and even sushi donuts! The food was absolutely outstanding. My Spicy Tuna Poke Bowl was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, and my friends raved about their dishes as well. The food was so good, it actually paused our conversation which is always a great sign!
Prices are reasonable for Portland, and the overall experience exceeded all expectations. If you’re craving fresh, delicious sushi or poke in a welcoming spot, don’t walk... run to Poke Box! You won’t be...
