Sammy's Burgers and Shakes — Restaurant in Portland

They had lots of halloween decorations up and it looked like they have some kind of party maybe for kids so that is really neat. We need more places like this that have safe things for the kids. Me and my boyfriend came in he got a burger,pretzel bites and onion rings and I got a burger and fried pickles. We are definately coming back. He loved his hamburger. His onion rings where good, but a bit over cooked, kind of burned. But he liked the fact they are freshly hand battered. His pretzel bites was one pretzel cut up into peices and microwaved. And it wasn't even warm, and it came with room temperature nacho cheese. I loved my fried pickle chips. I think they might have been freshly hand battered also because those where the best pickle chips I have ever had. I think they hand batter all their things themselves. I had a hamburger and it was ok. I had wanted to get a shake but I heard they use water instead of milk to mix them. The inside could use a face lift. But that would raise prices and the prices where really good. It was $10 for a burger, side and a can of pop. That is a pretty good deal. I can see how people may think it is dirty inside. It isn't dirty, it is just an older inside that needs some work, and new chairs , but that all costs lots of money. They have good prices, so if they worked on the inside, they would have to raise the prices then everybody would complain. We had to wait a little while in line. There was only one person cooking and one person taking orders and ringing up people. Luckily they weren't very busy. Hopefully they have more help during rush hours. I think we went around 3:30 pm on a weeknight. My boyfriend used the bathroom, and almost got locked in. There was no door handle on the door. Luckily he knew what to do in that situation. We will definately go again. And I am definately getting fried pickle chips again. And trying a fried oreo. There was a lady that came in that had ordered a fried reeses with a to go order. She brought it back because they gave her a fried oreo. They told her they were out of reeses. They wouldn't refund her money or anything because 'Sammi' doesn't let them do refunds or something like that. They should have either let her know they were out of reeses when she ordered or when she picked up her order. They never should have just given her an oreo in it's place without asking first. But our order was fine, and everything was good. The poor employees look like they were working really hard. I sure hope they get time for breaks...

By far one of THE BEST 24 hour restaurants in Portland! I was pleasantly surprised the first time I ate here; their onion rings were fantastic and their burgers were also consistently good and cooked all the way through…

Their choice of shakes is different but actually really quite good! They are technically vegan and lactose free.. 50+ flavors too… only 4 real fruit ones, but with some creativity you can come up with some delicious combinations! They’ll even throw freshly cooked bacon in there for ya!

The atmosphere in Sammy’s is wonderful! The table tops and counters are covered in nostalgic vintage Portland sights and super imposed with some of the delicious offerings from their menu. I never thought I would enjoy deep fried French toast as much as I did here, but it’s really addicting! The cinnamon roll waffles are TO DIE FOR!! The Pigs in a Blanket are ridiculously good as well.

Halloween is a great time of the year to visit Sammy’s as he spares no expense decking out the inside, outside AND even the building next door in spiders, spiderwebs, ghouls, ghosts, skeletons, coffins and just some all-around delightful Halloween ephemera and decor! I believe he also holds a free pumpkin carving night on October 25th from 4pm to 9pm, which free includes a free pumpkin for this very child-friendly event! A very kind and generous event I must admit!

The service has been mostly good, as with any business there tends to be a bad egg here and there but they don’t last long as Sammy really does strive for a friendly and welcoming vibe here.

Parking is a breeze since they have their own rather large private parking lot with a good 12+ parking spots PLUS several handicap spots. I could honestly do without the obnoxious door chime that loudly announces every customer’s arrival and departure, but it’s probably not going anywhere any time soon. Perhaps he’ll decide on a more pleasant-sounding one in the near future… it certainly doesn’t hurt to offer a little unsolicited feedback regarding the door chime… just sayin’… ;)

There isn’t much I would change about the place, honestly. The ranch could use an upgrade and it would be nice to have some salad options, but I know that it’s an iffy topic since the ingredients tend to go bad fairly quickly if not used within a reasonable time… but other than that, a really great option for late night munchies or even day time...

Ordered two Milkshakes from here Monday on the 3rd I usually don't leave reviews but bro idk if you guys used old milk, haven't cleaned the machine for awhile or it was due to uncleanliness but me and my gf have been sick ever since not here to bash at all but not being able to keep food down, nausea, vomiting, constant bathroom visits and aching is not what i expected from 2 shakes still currently sick don't know if we were just unlucky that day and I also know mistakes happen but the way these shakes taking us out is diabolical

Update: Your reply got me weak comprehension might not be one of your strongest skills but let’s get in to it 😂 I never said it was only due to milk I actually stated that it could possibly be three things and you just confirmed it was the third “uncleanliness” as I previously stated then you proceed to type this to my girl???? “yal probably got sick from that same flue that took out half of our staff couple weeks ago!” Your words 😂 Is this real life Lmao are you serious my boi so you telling me you didn’t take the time to clean and prevent it from passing from staff to customers??? got you 👍🏾 but honestly lol I gain nothing from bashing your business didn’t even ask you for a refund you need to understand that criticism and hating are two different things whether the sickness is due to food poisoning or a cold as you claim…we got it from you 😂 as a grown man/learn how to receive feedback and get out your feelings also claiming that “everyone knows our milkshakes are made with water” why tf would I ever in life assume the milkshake I order…the MILKshake I ordered would be made with water 😂 but my mistake fam maybe rename them watershakes or H2Oshakes for customers like me but also aye a Mc chicken never put me on the toilet and tore up my insides so I just might take you up on that stick to Mc Donald’s statement prob the only solid thing you’ve typed to me fr lastly it’s funny how another reviewer 3 hours after my review was posted commented about the “owners passion for creativity is endless” 😂😂😂 with an old picture????
