Twilight Cafe & Bar — Restaurant in Portland

We came here on 12/20 for cheap drinks and some live music. Huge waste of a $7 cover. Im really surprised with the good reviews about this place. Ive lived in Oregon my entire life and have seen more shows than I can count, and this spot is one of the worst Ive been to for music. The sound quality absolutely sucked. The first 2 bands were just ok. The 3rd was amazing, but the sound is so bad, it was hard to even hear the lyrics. The atmosphere was "off"-there were some curt regulars that acted like they ran the place inside and out and actually said some rude stuff to a few of us that were standing outside. While the bartender was super nice and seemed fun, he kicked us out at 1am because he "was trying to get laid". The 3rd band listened to both the 1st and 2nd bands, but by the time they went on, both the other bands were off drinking and not supporting them at all. Its an unspoken rule, especially in Portland with local bands, that everyone support each other, especially when they are playing a show together. This place is a dive with cheap drinks, but that night completely turned me off and none of us will return. There are SO many better places to go and get some cheap drinks and listen...

Well ya see, it's really a shame. I like that Twilight sometimes books Psychobily/77Punk/other forms of new oldskool Rock N Roll. But at the last show I was attacked when trying to walk away from a negative interaction (ok, np problem) but then I got followed. Instead of the guy at the door helping me keep my distance as I exited the bar to the outside, I was further threatened by them to say sorry (including the door employee) and I was struck in the jaw and the head by a group of 4 friends (ok I'm a Mod, tipsy but danced my butt off so I carry on) but no.... I was blocked and hit on the street as the door man was in the intersection with them doing nothing as I was waiting for my girlfriend to catch up. So yeah I didn't wanna really fight because experiencing live rock N roll and buying records from some unique artists is part of my lifestyle, yet I'm not protected against 4 attackers. Kinda odd. I wanna love you...but you gotta do better about resolving issues because I was trying to end the situation immediately and was cut off from doing so.
