If you’re looking for an affordable studio space chock full of friendly creatives, look no further. My time at ADX was both productive and social, a private studio for a great price provided me with a lovely space to work, and the community of diverse artists were a delight to work beside and learn from.
The staff was more than wonderful, and always looking for an opportunity to support you in your endeavors, (if that is something you are into.) High energy, friendly, knowledgeable, and very supportive. I loved that they allowed me to customize my space to my liking.
The location is also superb, restaurants and bars wrap around the block, and the corner of stark and 11th houses multiple food carts. (Home to a bus stop as well)
ADX’s community events are also a major perk, which are open to the public, and are a great way to get involved in the Portland creative scene even if you aren’t looking to rent. I’ve met so many cool people at ADX, and am always looking forward to the next party, gallery opening,...
Read moreGreat place with a few annoying drawbacks. Clean, safe, great equipment, and mostly awesome staff minus one lead fab guy with a less than pleasant personality. I feel it's a little more profit driven than community driven as all non-standard equipment costs quite a bit extra to use and memberships are pretty spendy. Plus, adx contracted projects can often get in the way of paying members who are trying to use the shop too. It's also disheartening that they want working members to volunteer 40 hours a month for a $200 membership credit. Basically $5 an hour? That's crazy! Not to mention that half of the time they are working on projects adx gets paid for. But other than those drawbacks, lots of opportunity to learn and do new things. Great place for women to comfortably get immersed in an environment that has traditionally been masculine dominant. I would say that is probably the best...
Read moreI have been a member at ADX since 2022 (so 3+ years as of this post) I’m in the wood shop and I am so, so, so grateful for a community shop like this to exist! It is stocked with all the necessities! Jointer, planer, table saw, chop saw, router table, band saw, drill press and more!
ADX has helped me to get me into a space that works for me and my work, and the community at ADX has provided numerous opportunities for growth and learning. I am a painter as well, and ADX also supports me in that passion, offering me the ability to show my art in the gallery and participate in monthly collaborative shows!
There’s lots of amazing people and projects, support and community - but also lots of space! So things never feel crowded to me - except when there is a gallery opening, artist market, concert or event happening!! Then it’s full...
