China Ocean — Restaurant in Portsmouth

I recently visited China Ocean, a highly-rated Chinese restaurant in the U.S., and I have to say — this place absolutely lives up to the hype. From the moment I walked in to everything was spot-on. If you’re looking for authentic, flavorful Chinese food with great service, this is the place.

The atmosphere is cozy, clean, and welcoming. It’s not overly fancy, but it has a warm, relaxing vibe. The space is well-organized, tables are clean, and the decor includes some subtle Chinese elements that add charm without being overdone. Whether you’re dining with family, friends, or even solo, you’ll feel comfortable and at ease.

And the food? Absolutely amazing. Everything we ordered was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. The orange chicken was crispy and tender with the perfect sweet-tangy balance. The General Tso’s chicken had just the right amount of kick, without being overly sweet or greasy. The shrimp lo mein had that authentic “wok hei” flavor — the noodles were springy, the shrimp fresh and juicy. We also tried the beef with broccoli, which was cooked perfectly with tender slices of beef and crisp vegetables. Every dish felt homemade, not mass-produced. You could taste the quality in every bite.

Portions were generous, ideal for sharing or packing up leftovers (which still tasted great the next day). The menu is extensive, so there’s something for everyone, whether you like spicy, savory, sweet, or mild flavors.

As for price, it’s more than fair. You’re paying for excellent ingredients, big portions, and real care in preparation. Most dishes range from $10 to $18, and for the quality you get, it’s worth every penny. It’s not fast food — it’s real food, cooked right.

Overall, China Ocean is hands-down one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been to in the U.S. It’s a rare find: authentic flavors, warm service, generous portions, and great value — all under one roof. I’m already planning to come back and try even more of the menu.

Great tasting food. Yes they speak different, act different and good reason..they are..from a country 1000's of miles away. So when you do try their food you will find that it is by far one of the best around. Get over the way they talk or act, it is not personal. Just their way of life... I WOULD LIKE TO RETRACT MY ORIGINAL POST, The one above, the people that work there are by far the worst I've ever experienced in any job I've ever had, I mean ever...They want to pay you in rice (a free meal after a 10 to 12 hour work day) they try very hard to rip you off for money you earned in tips by various means, they resale food, YES THEY DO..I delivered for them so I know what I'm saying..Go on a delivery person does not want their order for whatever reason ie; did not have money or not what they ordered, I would return with the order, watch them put the rice back in the mix or even return an order and a new customer walk in place an order and watch them pull the chicken wings out of the bag I returned and put in the new customer's bag...I would swear to this in court. Believe it. . Yes I quit I cannot be a part of that....If I were anyone I would find some other place besides them..Yes some orders were left with customer and had to go and pu, not getting paid for 2nd trip...you have...

I ordered from them on 3/13/18. The order was a delivery order. I ordered a small smoked sausage with white rice and gravy. My husband, who came home later to eat his food told me it wasn't sausage at all it was hotdogs cut the long way to try to fool a person. I called them back to let them know that we know they gave us hotdogs instead of sausage and the excuse was that they ordered the sausage from a new place and that's what they were given instead of smoked sausage. I told her that I wasn't trying to get my money back, because they will fight to the death to keep from giving you your money back even though they're dead wrong, but I just wanted them to know that we're not dumb and realized that it wasn't smoked sausage. I will never ever eat here again. That was a huge disappointment. Even though they delivered, I ordered over $20 in food and I also gave a tip to the driver. I feel like I was robbed. In my previous experience and this last one I give them one...
