I'm still not sure what makes a grinder a grinder, but I'll be coming back for more!
Hi, first time grinder eater here. I might come back and edit this review, but in the meantime I felt it important to write my first impressions. I oft times leave a restaurant, promising myself to review it, only to forget and then my soothe-saying, ratings-boosting words fall into obscurity /s.
If you want a hot and delicious meal at a reasonable price, come to W.g. Grinders. I purchased two food items that, thinking back on it, could have gone south if not prepared correctly. One was the tuna grinder; the other was the lobster bisque. Both of them slapped my cheeks red because of how good they were!
The tuna (tuna salad?) was seasoned to perfection. It would almost be considered too salty to eat on its own BUT the fresh lettuce and tomato accompanying it gave it the perfect balance. Whether or not they did this on purpose, I cannot say. That said, the sandwich was solid; everything you want a tuna sandwich to be. The bread was toasted with a lovely outer crisp and a chewy interior (which I enjoyed).
The lobster bisque can clear out my bank account, because lordy was it good! A perfect balance of lobster flavor and seasonings, it melted this cold jaded heart on an even colder winter's day.
The only improvement I could think is that the food was TOO hot! I had to wait a few moments for the grinder and soup to cool down. I wasn't in a rush today but had I been on a lunch break, it would have eaten into some of my remaining free time.
The staff seemed very busy but accommodating, and the atmosphere is somewhat sterile in vibes, but overall has a humble, welcoming gesture that invites anyone to come eat and sit a spell.
Overall, kudos to the staff and management of W.g. Grinders. I look forward to coming back and trying...
Read moreWe used to be a big fan of Grinders. The food is amazing, however, we will not be returning. Up until yesterday, we would order carryout just about weekly. Or order was 10-15 single meatballs with marinara sauce and cheese and an Italian salad. We don't eat much bread so the meatballs (I know that the meatballs contain bread, but it's still better than the alternative) themselves was perfect for us.
So we called last last night and attempted to order 15 meatballs with the sauce and cheese. We were informed that they will no longer sell just meatballs. The manager's reasoning was that they sold too many. It seems to me that is a good problem to have. They sell too many? I would think that would be a good thing. So the only way you can get meatballs now is to order a meatball sub. Why would I want to order a sub when we don't want a sub. We just want the meatballs. If they are that much in demand, raise the price to make it worth it to you. Go from $1 per meatball to $2 per meatball. We would have still bought them.
So if they are "selling too many", that means that there are a lot of people ordering them, right? So if there are a lot of people ordering them, why would you purposefully alienate so much of your customer base? Seems like bad business to me.
We used them for catering for an event last year and also bought an entire sheetcake for another event.
We will never return to Grinders for anything, they have lost...
Read moreYou get your money's worth for the price. A little steep in price for certain items, but hey you get big portions & big portions are always a plus with any food chain. They have daily specials that are delicious yet cheaper than you'd expect given what you get. The food, from the bread, to the veggies, to the sauces, to the meats, to the sodas tastes fresh every time. The staff is always uber friendly. The lines move very fast even on their busiest days. The food has its own distinct taste that makes it stand out from other similar sub/Italian shops even though you'd think that all common meats/sauces ought to taste the same right? Wrong. I never thought I'd ever get to a place in life where I wanted Wg Grinder's mayo & italian sauce ONLY on any/all foods I use those sauces on lol
However, sometimes the empty tables that are available aren't clean. They're not filthy, but it's common to decide to eat in, get to your table & see salt everywhere, for example. I'm not sure if they're not cleaned off b/c the staff can't keep up with the high volume # of customers who will want to 'eat in' just as much as order their food to go, or what. I've been to this location 100 times, but I rarely ever see any staff come behind leaving customers & clean the tables afterwards. It's strange.
Nonetheless, I...
