I stopped by the other day to peruse the Bordeaux wine selection, as it had dwindled considerably and probably awaiting a restock. The restock had certainly arrived, with the Bordeaux section chock full of bottles. I was hopeful I could give an updated review.

I continue to be disappointed by the prices. They currently have the 2010 Chateau de Pitray for $28 or $29. This is a sub-$20 bottle, and available at another local retailer for $18. 2010 is a great vintage and it is a solid wine, but it isn’t anywhere close to a $30 bottle. The 2011 Chateau Bel-Air is now on “sale” at, I think $29. Still, inconceivably overpriced as it is available at multiple local retailers (three at last count) for less than $20. It is an excellent bottle of wine, however.

The selection of wines was also a bit disappointing. A lot of generic “Bordeaux” and “Bordeaux Superieur”appellation wines, with few from Medoc, Haut Medoc, etc., and even fewer from the more prestigious appellations such as Paulliac (indeed, the one Paulliac there is the “generic” version of a Paulliac).

I just can’t comprehend why their wine selection and wine prices are consistently so poor. There is no value in wine here. Travel to local competitor wine shops and you’ll find higher quality Bordeaux at significantly lower prices. I was hopeful that with the restock they would reevaluate their pricing, however that wasn’t the case.

Good on them if they are selling the wine, however. I do not begrudge them. With Mission Hills just up the road, there is a lot of money to be spent, but I’m Prairie Village riff-raff and can’t pay those prices for those wines. I just can’t shop there. I've downgraded to 2 stars.

Original Review: This store has a decent selection of Bordeaux, on par with most shops that sell wine. It’s not the biggest or best selection in the KC metro area, but you can certainly find a good bottle of Bordeaux here.

My main issue with Rimann is the price. The prices for Bordeaux are completely astronomical and not competitive with other local retailers. I’ve seen the same bottles at other stores selling for 25-50% cheaper on a regular basis. One example is their Chateau Bel-Air. They are selling the 2011 vintage for $32. A local competitor has it currently on sale for $18, with a regular price of $24. The local competitor just switched to the 2011 vintage, but before that was selling the much superior 2010 at the same sale price. Another example is the 2010 Chateau Bibian, which Rimann does not currently have in stock. If I recall correctly, they had it priced at $21 or $22. Another local competitor, different from the one above, had the same wine, same vintage, for $12.25. I bought their entire stock, and now they no longer have it in stock (to be fair, I don’t think they knew the quality of that wine – I’ve seen it at third local competitor for about $18). The third comparison is for Chateau Blaignan. Rimann has the 2011 or 2012 vintage in stock at a sale price of $23, I think. A fourth local competitor has the much superior 2010 vintage at a sale price of $19.

I can’t speak to the prices for the non-Bordeaux wines, but I imagine their pricing policy is the same. So, while you can surely find a decent wine to drink at Rimann, you will undoubtedly pay significantly more for the bottle here than at other local competitors. The competitors about which I spoke are all in Johnson County as well, except for one, which is close to downtown. Even as a member of their wine club, which offers a 10% discount, I do not find the wine to be priced competitively with other retailers and I have stopped...

Horrible. If I could give 0 stars I definitely would. I'm originally from out of state and don't go home often so my license is still vertical from before I turned 21 (and I haven't been able to get a horizontal one because I don't go back often) and even though it isn't expired, they still wouldn't even look at it or take it. The man that told me they wouldn't take it was rude about it and took what I was buying and walked away from me without explaining himself. Extremely frustrating and didn't give me a reason until I called in again to complain. Will never...

I was tasked with finding rhubarb bitters a few hours before a party on St. Patrick’s Day. After calling several liquor and party stores, I reached Rimann Liquors. They were incredibly helpful and had my hard to find item in stock. The store, itself, is so much fun with an abundance of variety and knowledgeable staff. I’m excited to go back when I have some time to explore...
