Glad to see a new impressive restaurant on the Prairieville strip.
Let me start with the least preferred which was the crawfish bread. The bread was some plain loaf with no wow factor. The crawfish tail batter was not crisp or flaky. The spinach dip was standard fare.
On to the good stuff. The shotgun shrimp. Their play on bang bang shrimp and wow it was good. Piping hot and a down the middle flavor profile that had everyone at the table raving.
Next was the crawfish croquettes. These fresh, properly crusted, and served piping hot pockets of crawfish (and corn?) had just the right amount of red pepper (heat) and when dipped into the pepper jelly (hot and sweet sauce) this place got put on our radar for future visits.
Wait until you see the burger review.
The double deuce burger was a double meat patty with a smash burger like crisp, and that sauce (similar to Big Mac sauce in my opinion) was a solid combo worthy of a repeat trip. The burger was also dressed with cheddar jack cheese lettuce tomato onion and pickle. I don't think deuce or moist are good words for food but it is what it is.
The second burger was the Oyster Rockefeller burger. Here is where the oyster dip took on a second personality. It was better on this burger than with the bread appetizer because it made the burger a handful, and gave the burger notes of richness. The crispness of the fried oyster (which I wanted more of) and the combined bite (with the spin dip and meat patty) made this an A+ bite!! The kicker was that I ordered this burger medium and it was cooked perfect medium!!! Look at the picture!! Was this luck? I know some are cringing with medium cooked meat, but this is quality stuff, so I went there.
These 2 burgers are enough for this place to be on a burger radar for everyone. The sauce might be a mother sauce for several dishes but that is fine by me.
I had a bite of the shrimp remoulade wrap which was very good.
We will be...
Read moreWhere to start? First, my guy has been trying to get me to try this place as his jobs frequently orders from the one in New Roads. My first impression was beautiful set-up, however the scenery lost its luster fast. I was vexed by the pay first order of business which asks you to leave tip, how do I know what type of tip to leave if I hadn't been served yet, but overlooked it and left a whipping 20%tip. Then I was told that we had to make and refill our own sodas and tea. I went over to the drink station and made my drink. The cups looked kinda of nasty, and I asked the lady were they clean she explained they were and that they were just tattered and torn due to use. When I sat at the table, I took a big swallow of my drink and suddenly choked. I thought it was ice but when I spit it out into a napkin it was a big chuck of somebody else's food.I was grossed out but still a little optimistic because my husband the food was great. My food arrived smelling good and all nicely plated. I did want to start eating because I was waiting for my dates food to arrive , but after about 10 or 15more minutes, we realized it wasn't coming. We had to flag down two people before any stopped. We explained that we were missing a plate of food, the cashier begin to say that we only ordered on plate. I went on to explain how my husband went into detail about his order with her and yet his entire order was missing. The manager never came over to address the situation. My food was cold and gross by the time we paid again a waited for his food to come out. I NEVER WILL BE BACK FOR AN OVER PRICED LACK OF CUSTOMER service plate of red beans again. The lost...
Read moreThe food was delicious. Not taking away from the flavor...it was very good. However, almost the entire menu is fried. So just know that going in. The one dish I looked forward to has changed, and for the price...not sure it's worth it. The "Swamp" burger was light on the crawfish and very heavy on the mushrooms. Still good, but a bit unbalanced compared to previous experience. The fish and shrimp dinner was good. It's fried fish and shrimp...well done, but just not what I was looking forward too. Atmosphere...not my favorite. To have full service, we had to sit in the bar area. It was pretty much full and very loud. There were no tables to sit at, so we sat at the high bar table. It's not terrible, but it is cramped and very noisy. Our server was Peyton, she was lovely. No complaints with service. She was great. If you want to have a quieter area and a table, you will need to give up full service. Which is fine...it's an option, which is also nice. You go to the bar to order and pick up your food, and you get your own fountain drinks.
Notes on sauces... Their signature sauce is delicious...really like it! The tarter sauce is different than any tarter sauce I've had before. Which, isn't much because I don't generally like it. But this ine is pretty good. It has more of a dill flavor. I don't know how fans of tarter sauce will feel, but if you don't usually like it...try this one. It's...
