Halo Pub: A Princeton Gem Serving Up Scoops of History and Flavor

Nestled in the heart of downtown Princeton, Halo Pub stands as a testament to the timeless appeal of quality ice cream and community gathering spaces. As one of New Jersey's oldest ice cream establishments, this charming spot has seamlessly transitioned from its origins as a pub to become a beloved ice cream bar, all while maintaining its vintage charm and commitment to excellence.

On a recent balmy evening, we decided to treat ourselves to Halo Pub's renowned ice cream. The anticipation built as we approached, noticing a considerable line stretching down the sidewalk. However, our fears of a long wait were quickly assuaged as the queue moved with surprising efficiency. In a mere 10 to 15 minutes, we found ourselves at the counter, ready to indulge.

The interior of Halo Pub is a delightful mix of old-world charm and modern cleanliness. The space exudes a warm, inviting atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. It's evident that great care is taken to maintain both the historical integrity of the establishment and impeccable hygiene standards.

We opted for two classic flavors: pecan and pistachio. Each generous scoop cost around $4.50, which we found to be reasonable given the quality and portion size. Halo Pub offers the option of having your ice cream served in either a cup or cone, catering to different preferences. For those looking to elevate their ice cream experience further, a variety of toppings are available to add that extra touch of indulgence.

The pecan ice cream was a revelation - creamy and rich, with generous chunks of perfectly toasted pecans distributed throughout. Each spoonful offered a harmonious balance of smooth, cold cream and nutty crunch. The pistachio, equally impressive, boasted an authentic flavor that transported us straight to Sicily. Its subtle nuttiness and vibrant green hue were a testament to the use of high-quality, natural ingredients.

What truly sets Halo Pub apart, however, is its staff. The team behind the counter was not only efficient but genuinely friendly and knowledgeable about their products. They patiently answered questions and offered recommendations with enthusiasm, enhancing the overall experience.

The ambiance of downtown Princeton added an extra layer of magic to our visit. The historic buildings and tree-lined streets created a picturesque backdrop for our ice cream adventure. As night fell, the area took on a romantic glow, with street lamps casting a warm light on the cheerful crowds enjoying their frozen treats.

It's worth noting that Halo Pub caters to night owls and late-night cravings, staying open until 11:00 p.m. This extended hours policy is a boon for students, professionals working late, or anyone in need of a sweet pick-me-up after dinner. As an added bonus, parking becomes free after 9:00 p.m., making it even more convenient for evening visits.

Halo Pub's transformation from a traditional pub to an ice cream bar is a fascinating piece of local history. This evolution speaks to the establishment's ability to adapt while maintaining its core values of quality and community. The pub's past is evident in its decor and ambiance, creating a unique fusion of ice cream parlor cheerfulness and pub coziness.

In conclusion, Halo Pub is more than just an ice cream shop - it's a Princeton institution that offers a taste of history alongside its delectable frozen treats. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this charming establishment deserves a spot on your must-visit list. With its exceptional ice cream, efficient service, inviting atmosphere, and convenient location, Halo Pub provides a sweet escape that will leave you planning your next visit before you've even finished...

I'm very disappointed. It was my first time here and I had heard so much about this place, but the service was incredibly terrible. I came in with a group, and we all wanted pints of ice cream, but out of the 5 of us, only one person was able to get a pint before they told us they were out of pints. Then, we asked for double scoops in cups, and 3 of us were given single scoops. One of our friends had to wait for the additional 2 new scoops. The entire time, one man on the staff that was serving us was incredibly rude. We got 2 hot chocolates, one of which spilled a little, but every napkin holder was empty. All 3 staff just didn't want to work. Overall, the quality is average, but there are much better ice cream options just down the street at a better price...

Halo Pub holds a special place in my heart, reminiscent of carefree childhood days and cherished memories. Their farm-fresh ice cream has been a constant source of joy, from sunny summer outings with loved ones to cozy nights in with take-out pints. With a variety of flavors to explore, I've savored every scoop, with Chocolate Cherry topping my list as a timeless favorite. Equally delightful is their Mint Chocolate Chip, a refreshing treat that never disappoints. Halo Pub isn't just an ice cream spot; it's a nostalgic retreat where every visit feels like coming home. Experience retro charm at Halo Pub, where limited seating and a cozy ambiance evoke nostalgia and enhance your ice...

If there are long lines WAIT IT OUT!!!! this place honestly has THE BEST ICE CREAM!!! It’s such a nice cute little spot! My family & I have been going here for a couple years Princeton is right in back yard basically 10 min drive & wow I honestly love all the flavors they have! Especially the coffee! It’s truly quite remarkable! You know what I love about this place is that their Icecream is not too sweet! It’s like the perfect amount! & they have such a vast variety of endless flavors it’s amazing! Every time I’ve been here the staff members are always so nice despite the chaos & I appreciate that!! Cant wait to go grab some more when I go back to NJ!

We like the ice cream and always buy a few pints (5-6) to take home. Though it's never a full pint depend on the person who fill it. It is getting worse and worse. I just opened one and literally like 1/2 pint, it is only filled with 3/4 of icecream and tons of hallow spaces all the way to the bottom. If you are buying 2 or more pints, you have to watch the person to fill it, otherwise you will very likely end up having the pint in the picture. This is the problem when you hire college students all the time, many of them are only doing this temporarily, they might not take your reputation seriously.
