A quintessential small town burger shack that is a must stop on your way through Prineville. If you're a fan of big burgers and sweet relish, this is worth making a drive for! Excellent service, a variety of seating and eating options, a great park nearby for an easy picnic... Definitely check out this excellent local offering. If you're not in the mood for food, at least swing by their ice-cream counter for an amazing shake!
We were in the area for vacation and decided to knock another town off of #TheGreatOregonBurgerBucketList (my quest to go to every town in Oregon and get a burger). Prineville was a low hanging fruit town (being nearby), and Tastee Treat jumped out of the Google listings as the perfect burger shack destination. It was the fries that really sold me, as well as that classic burger shack sign.
The fries were just like the ones my Opa used to make. Greasy, full potato sliced into fries. Salted in the pan. I could easily have had a bucket full. Fry sauce a little heavy on the mayo, but the fries didn't even need it. Just munch away on these delicious suckers.
The fish burger was delicious, according to my step son. The fresh veggies really sealed the deal. Corn dog was a solid offering, although my nephew's review wasn't exactly verbose (he had his mouth full, ya know). The tots were really good, little greasy but still crispy. Onion rings were fresh and tasty, with maybe just a touch too much batter for my taste.
California burger was messy and delicious. If this wasn't for #TheGreatOregonBurgerBucketList, I would have been tempted to get it! Megen sure enjoyed it.
My Mountain Tastee burger lived up to its name. Gigantic and meaty. I'm a 6'5" carnivore and I can barely get my mouth around the thing. Added bacon makes it a true barnyard burger. Grill is well managed to keep it from being too greasy, no small feat with a barnyard burger. Just a little bit of seasoning from the grill, a nice light touch. Uses sweet relish on burgers, if that's your thing. The burger ended up besting me, only the second burger I wasn't able to finish thus far. Had it had dill relish, I might have made the mistake of powering through!
Definitely check out this wonderful little stop in the charming town of Prineville. I recommend getting it to go and checking out the park across the street for a wonderful little...
Read moreI lived in Prineville as a very young child for awhile with my family. I remember the Tastee Treet so very fondly. At about 6 years of age, here was the first and only time I remember having banana ice cream... YUM YUM YUM. Back then there was always the big Easter egg hunt across the street in the large grassy area, that now has a small children's playground and naturally as an adult, feels so much smaller! Eggs scattered and hidden everywhere. Children in their Easter best lined up in rows beginning with the youngest getting a headstart so they had a chance against the taller, faster big kids. Great times! Anyways, the Tastee Treet: A Prineville gem and a piece of history as I see it While I somehow forgot to see if they still had the same banana ice cream, because my tummy was rumbling LOL, I had the best bacon cheeseburger and fries I've had in a very long time!! is it possible to get four thumbs up? Because that's what they get for food and the service. The nice young gentleman with the cutest dimple was charming, competent and you could see the teamwork with the rest of the staff. A MUST SEE, MUST EAT down home...
Read moreSurreal moment of the day: Menu item at this quaint little old fashioned diner/cafe: "Meat and Cheese sandwich". Available meats include ham, roast beef, turkey and pastrami. Cheeses include cheddar, provolone, pepper jack, Swiss. Other options include type of bread and toasted or not.
So I order a toasted pastrami and Swiss on rye.
"We don't have those."
"You sure?" (Checks with kitchen staff) "Nope, we don't have that."
So I grab the menu again and read it.
"Ok, I'll have the meat and cheese sandwich."
"Meat?" "Pastrami." "Cheese?" "Swiss." "On what kind of bread?" "Rye" "Toasted or not?" "Toasted" "Ok, we will get that right up for you."
/me stares in incredulity
lol
The kid seemed new and realized the error and was apologetic. And to be fair we DID kinda ambush him with 5 orders all at once on separate checks.
In the end, truthfully it was a really fine sandwich, so, full marks.
Will make it a "must stop" destination next time I am going ...
