UPDATE 2 (2023): I returned here again for taco month and they have totally improved! I can honestly say this is authentic Mexican food now :) The service and atmosphere is still fantastic, and the food I can personally rate 4/5.
UPDATE: I decided to hike my review up to 3 stars because the customer service has been outstanding since I originally left this review. Thank you for your response to this review and the steps you took to remedy my dissatisfaction. I hope to hear more positive feedback about your recipes so I can return to and recommend your restaurant. Thanks again!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Yuck. Came here with a small group for birria tacos and it was so gross. Everything was super salty and the dipping was basically salted beef broth with onions in it. It left such a gross taste in my mouth for HOURS. Even brushing my teeth and eating something else would not get rid of it. On top of that it gave all of us heartburn (none of us suffer from heartburn regularly!!).
I ended up trying the birria torta which was just okay on it's own but disgusting with the dipping "sauce". The tacos were very dry without the sauce. The meat was not great, kind of tasted like it was seasoned with the premade taco seasoning you get from the box of taco shells. We also got a normal quesadilla which is meh. All the meals we got were beef so I can't speak to the chicken, lamb or vegan options, however this food was the furthest from Mexican style food. Taco Bell is more authentic than this place lol
The atmosphere itself is really nice, the decor is pretty and the service was fine. No complaints there, but not enough to warrant more than a 1-star review. It also felt overpriced for what we received. My torta was over ten dollars and it was like the size of a dollar-menu burger. The food looks delicious but looks are...
Read moreBeen dying to try some berrier tacos for some time now. I'm really picky about new food particularly at new places. After some searching I stumbled here an I'm so glad that I did!
The service was excellent, we were greeted by the owner (wife) out front and she was great. I'm very big on authenticity with flavors so after some conversation an laughs we ordered nachos with ting chicken. I want to say this I tried he tomatoes and it popped with so much flavor my mouth was literally watering. I complimented the nachos and I'm sorry but I forget the owners name and she told me that her mom made these style of nachos and she needed it in the store, I agree and loved the authentic flavors.
The berrier tacos were out of this world and everything I expected it was great, fresh, filling and just flat out delicious. My girl got a Carne Asada burrito and it was gigantic flavors were powerful the meal was delicious I never order desserts but we had to try the churros and Nutella and a few drink specials.
A++++ 6 star mom and pops experience. I believe the other owner (husband) was working in the back. I'm definetly excited to have found this place an I will be back...after all its a block from one of my work sites. I recommend giving this place a try and I think you will enjoy this gem.
Thank you guys for the great experience. I wish you...
Read moreI just noticed Casa Azul today and am so glad I did! Whenever I see a taqueria or Mexican restaurant I do a little research. I'm not a fan of chain restaurants or tacos inspired the contents of an Ortega box. I seek out and appreciate the "real deal". When I read about the owners of Casa Azul I decided it was taco take-out night.
On the menu last night: Tinga and Carne Asada tacos on handmade tortillas, carne asada quesadilla, side of guacamole, pico de gallo, horchata and tres leches. We more than enjoyed everything!
The meat was savory and moist. The handmade tortillas are exceptionally light textured. The three salsas that accompanied were unexpectedly flavorful. The pico and guacamole were fresh and did not disappoint. Upon the first bite of tres leches I asked how it was, the enthusiastic reply, "Soooo good." The surprise Palerindas lollipop in the bag was a special treat.
The interior is bright, colorful and clean. The ironic naming of the restaurant may be lost on some but Frida would approve. Your welcomed by a friendly and outgoing staff offering timely service. In case you were wondering, all the Covid guidelines are in place. You really must try Casa Azul - don't wait - you're missing out as you read this.
Looking forward to trying Casa Azul's street tacos next. My taco go-to type and I don't think theirs...
