Tried this out for my first time a couple weeks ago while visiting my friends over by Boston U. I'm not typically a huge poke fan in general, but this place and its overall decor/ambience, item varieties and warm customer service made it a solid spot to revisit again.
QUALITY: I ordered a build-your-own with tuna & salmon topped w/ their savory & spicy sauces that were an absolute delight. Fish-to-rice ratio was fair, and the poke'd fish itself was of fresh quality.
PRICE: Anything under 20 bucks for a solid lunch w/ a beverage is affordable nowadays..and that's just about what I paid after adding on a refreshing ice tea to go with it.
SERVICE: The staff members were courteous & friendly. You could tell they generally work in harmony and were happy to answer any questions for new customers unfamiliar with this type of food.
OVERALL: Their menu is a bit different compared to other poke spots I've been to, which I think adds depth to this whole establishment overall. For instance, I've never seen options for toast items like salmon avocado or bruschetta, or even a poke restaurant serving a nice selection of canned beer & wine! Very cute & clean little bright restaurant cafe in a quiet street area, with tasteful food & drink varieties. Keep up the great work,...
Read moreI was excited to hear that Hometown Poke opened up a café in the Mount Hope area. The owners are extremely friendly and hardworking, and so I was happy to see their dreams unfolding. Additionally, I really enjoy the fact that Hometown Poke sources their ingredients and products locally whenever possible from New England vendors, meaning when you support them you are supporting our community.
The café is very spacious, with a combination of large and small tables to accommodate all guests sizes. The decorations are trendy, minimalist, and overall a great space for dining or enjoying a cup of coffee.
When you’re ready to order, you can choose from one of their signature bowls or build your own. I decided to build my own poke bowl with mixed greens, chicken, and all the fixings that I liked. Truly a wonderful and delicious experience! And just an FYI, their protein portions are large compared to most poke places!
I decided to try their South Toast which had ricotta, sea salt, thick cut bacon and local honey. It was delicious! I need to try the others next time i visit. I also got a matcha latte which was nice and warm for a cold fall afternoon.
Overall I really enjoyed my time at Hometown Poke and will definitely be back...
Read moreAfter a brief hiatus, Hometown Cafe and Poke Bar is back and the city is ever thankful. I have been to some of the best poke restaurants in Hawaii and Los Angeles (where the poke competition is tough); it can be safely said that Providence's own Hometown can rival those places. It's why it was a Yelp top 40 in 2020. What separates them from their competition are the fresh ingredients, poke options, and service. If you want a savory bowl with a bit of sweetness...choose the Hometown Classic. Do you prefer spicier food? Well, the Korean Kick will quite literally kick your mouth open with its spicy and acidic kimchi that is absolutely salivating. If you want something refreshing, you cannot go wrong with the California Cool because the sweet, savory, and tanginess of the ponzu sauce really compliments the fresh salmon. They have something for everyone to satiate your hunger, so what are you waiting for? Go there, thank me later. For everyone involved, I will echo Mase's 2004 classic: oh, you know we need ya, right here is where we need ya,...
