Our second stop on our Saturday Taco crawl took us to Maiz, the Wayland Square location. The shop was decked out for the Halloween season. Inside the place reminds you of a Mexican cantina. Brightly colored flags adorning the ceiling contrasted the sand colored wall. Our server was very nice, letting us know what our options were for the fight. I chose to upgrade mine to pastor tacos as they are my favorite type. My friends got a Birria taco, a shrimp taco and the carnitas taco. It didn't take long before our food arrived. Fresh and hot, we quickly dived in. The pastor was flavorful, a slight char taste that made the whole thing sing a symphony for my taste buds. The shrimp taco was particularly good as well. The shrimp was succulent and the addition of the pineapple took it to the next level. The Birria meat was tender and juicy. The carnitas was a solid choice as well. Their homemade hot sauce, mild or spicy, on the side. All washed down with ice cold Mexican coke. Another taco spot in the books as a place to return. We only live 9 minutes away so it's a sure thing for us!

A Providence “Must Dine” We’ve been anxiously awaiting Maiz to open in Eastside as we watched the progress come along in Wayland Square. Our high expectations were over delivered. Food was absolutely fantastic. All of our dishes were absolutely delicious. By far best burritos/tacos we’ve had in Providence. Service was spectacular, friendly and our dishes came out very quickly. Great laid back and comfortable atmosphere. Love how there’s a full view of the kitchen which mixes flawlessly within the dining area. You can watch how meticulous the staff are as they carefully prepare dishes. Highly suggest!

I’ve been to this new spot in the ‘hood the last few Fridays and once for takeout. I love the shrimp burrito and the shrimp tacos. Also have tried the fish taco. Tasty chips, good guacamole, free refills on hibiscus iced tea agua Fresca - and the tres leches looks bomb as well. A little pricey but what isn’t in this day and age?! Oh and the decor is also bright and amazing - I love what they’ve done with the old Minerva’s space! I hope Maiz stays open for a long time!

Highly recommend for food, service, and a generally great experience! The menu has some classics and some new twists, and the wine list is very short but 100% Mexican - which is a huge plus in my book. Had the chicken chicharrones to start with a glass of sparkling wine, then a shrimp taco and fish taco with sauv blanc, then a carnitas taco with a glass of marselan (a new grape for me, was perfect with the pork!). Sat at the bar and was taken very well care of by Zice. Also chatted with one of their servers, their somm, and the owner, all of whom were super friendly, knowledgeable, and down to earth. Especially given they were still in soft-opening mode, this was an excellent experience and I'll definitely come back next time I'm in PVD!

The reason I came in was that the place I planned to go to was closed, and I saw their bright flashing sign from down the block, so I'd definitely say keep...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Maiz, and it was an exceptional experience! Their agua fresca was refreshing and perfectly balanced—not too sweet, just incredibly flavorful. The chicken tacos were outstanding, with tender, well-seasoned chicken and fresh toppings that brought everything together beautifully. And let me tell you, their guacamole is some of the best I’ve had—creamy, fresh, and packed with flavor.

On top of the amazing food, the service was fast and efficient. It’s clear that the team at Maiz knows how to make guests feel welcome. I’m so excited to have them join the neighborhood and can’t wait to go back and try more from their menu!...
