UPDATE: I want to update my review and move it from 1 star to 4 stars and let everyone know how well this was taken care of. Mambo Sushi reached out to me right away and made it a top priority to speak with me and find a resolution. I was very impressed with how quickly and professionally they handled this situation and how seriously this was taken, which is why I have decided to update this review. I appreciate management and owner for hearing me out and for the attention they gave to this matter. I will consider giving Mambo Sushi another shot as this is a great place to chill with friends, with a good vibe, and really good food and hookah. Thank you.
Extremely disappointed in this place. I will not be going back and I would advise everyone to find another spot on federal hill that won’t deceive and disrespect their customers. I’ve been here numerous times and every single time I leave a little more dissatisfied. Today was the last straw for me and my friends.
This is your warning to READ YOUR BILL CAREFULLY! On my visit today, I paid the bill knowing gratuity was already included. I left before a few of my friends did and when my friends were getting ready to leave, the waitress informed them that we had not left a tip for her! They were confused and apologized and left her ANOTHER 20% tip on top of the 20% gratuity that was already included in the bill! This is not the first time this has happened!
Previously my boyfriend and I went here and when the bill was given to us, my boyfriend just handed our waitress his card without checking the bill. I asked him to make sure there wasn’t gratuity already included. My boyfriend asked our waitress if the gratuity was included and she said “no I didn’t add it because I like to give people a chance to add their own tip”. However, we felt that the bill was a little higher than we thought so we asked to see the bill and when she brought it over there WAS gratuity ALREADY included! We politely confronted our waitress about this and she apologized for the mistake.
Gratuity is always included which I do not have a problem with. However, they now have added a 5% service charge when you pay with a card— which adds up when you have a $200-$300 bill. I’ve NEVER seen a charge like that in my life at a restaurant— MAYBE at a gas station but not a nice restaurant on federal hill.
It’s clear that this place of business likes to scam and deceive their customers, and they obviously teach their wait staff do the same.
It’s unfortunate because it’s a great vibe and the food and hookah are decent. But when you try to deceive and disrespect good paying customers, I have no desire to do business with you anymore. I will not be going back and I would advise everyone to find another spot on federal hill that won’t deceive and disrespect...
Read moreWow, not a good experience. My partner and I stopped in here for a quick bite to eat before going to a concert, assuming they would have a sushi bar of some kind. They didn't, but we sat at the bar anyway because we wanted to eat quickly. First, the atmosphere was really bizarre. The restaurant was open, but the waitress was still doing opening duties, even though it was already 6 pm. We were only one of two tables seated, but they were blasting reggaeton so loudly my partner and I couldn't hold a conversation at all, and we were sitting right next to each other. The atmosphere was like a sports bar/sushi/hookah/instagram hotspot/club rolled into one. The bathrooms didn't have any hand soap either. I think we total mistook the vibe of this place, which is partly on us, but wow, it was uncomfortable sitting there for any amount of time. We only ordered four sushi rolls for the two of us, and even as one of only two tables it took almost 30 minutes for food to come out. When the sushi did arrive, the rice was hot, the fish was warm, and it was all really bland. While hot rice and warm fish is okay when cooked, we ordered the raw sushi, which should really be cold as it can be a food safety hazard. This is definitely not a place to go if you are looking for high quality fresh fish. They don't have any simple options either (like sashimi or nigiri) so the only option is special rolls. Because we were in a hurry, we paid our check immediately, and only after leaving realized they brought us the wrong roll and majorly overcharged us! We ordered a california roll ($12), two tuna rolls ($12), and a rainbow roll ($16) which would total to $52 (without tax or gratuity). Our check came out to over $80 somehow, and they gave us a philadelphia roll ($14) instead of a rainbow roll! I wish we'd had time to go back and get the check fixed but we were in a hurry. I definitely don't recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a laid back...

Went to try this place that was recommended to me. Upon walking in the decoration was very nice. Got seated very fast.
Drinks took about 28 minutes (yes I timed it due to a bit in the car) to arrive to the table. Mind restaurant was completely empty. Noticed a person from the Instagram page was in the dining room could be a manager could be a guest could be the owner who knows? She was at the bar, eating, smoking hookah and drinking as the bartender was making my drinks. She was reaching over and stirring my drinks. That’s nasty and completely unprofessional. Manager drinking owner drinking and touching customers drinks is not ok.
Food: ordered 2 sushi rolls and a jalea plate for apps. Drinks: 2 pitchers
First sushi came out and it was too fast. Everyone Tried it and I was cold and hard just gross. I asked the server to make a new one and they put sushi in the microwave and brought it back out. Disgusting. I asked the server to remake a new one fresh and they put in microwave.
Second sushi came out and was hot and got cold too fast again more microwave food.
Jalea app plate. Fish was lightly breaded good shrimp was over breaded and compacted with breading and was definitely cooked shrimp recooked.
Note: sushi rice is cooked day of and fresh everyday. In china it’s a crime not to use fresh rice. As it’s grows mold and bacteria.
Health department should go in and see the was they do things “coming from a respectable chef you guys are trying to save a buck and reuse rice.
Server was nice and attentive but with food careless
Service: Not sure why restaurant is adding tips to the bill. Both customers and servers understand that the servers tip is based on her service not the kitchens service or mistakes. I believe it’s ilegal to add and must be removed upon request.
