Read moreWest Side Diner, located at 1380 Westminster Street in Providence’s Federal Hill neighborhood, is a cherished establishment that combines classic diner charm with modern culinary offerings. Housed in a meticulously restored 1947 Kullman dining car, the diner exudes nostalgia with its gleaming stainless steel exterior and vintage interior design.
The menu features a variety of breakfast and lunch options, with breakfast served all day from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Popular breakfast items include the malted Belgian waffle, known for its sweet flavor, and the Philly Cheesesteak Omelet, praised for its tender beef and creamy cheese. Lunch offerings such as the roasted turkey dinner, complete with homemade gravy and stuffing, and the Reuben sandwich, filled with lean corned beef and Swiss cheese, are also well-received.
Desserts are a highlight, with homemade treats like chocolate pudding and apple pie, crafted by Shirley Arena, mother of co-owner Michael Arena. The apple pie, served warm with ice cream, is particularly delightful.
The diner offers a spacious dining area, including a function room with a full bar, making it suitable for large gatherings. Service is noted to be friendly and attentive, contributing to a pleasant dining experience.
Overall, West Side Diner provides a satisfying dining experience that blends traditional diner ambiance with quality food...

Normally, I would understand if I had come during busy hours or in some other circumstance to warrant the degree frustration and coldness the server directed towards me but the restaurant was not busy when I arrived and I can't imagine I was putting an undue burden on her workflow. Perhaps it because I had Lakers gear on and the server was a Celtics fan. I just know that you're supposed to expect a certain degree of hospitality. The service was fast though.
Additionally, that server started talking to another patron about how a local priest was being charged with the kind of crime you associate with priests these days. There was also a couple behind me arguing loudly about putting someone in hospice care. Not a great conversation vibe.
All in all, I would come here again for the amazing food but bring noise-cancelling headphones and wear non-sports...
