I don't go here often, but I felt the need to comment on today's experience. I arrived at about 2 pm. It wasn't crowded. There were plenty of tables open and the counter was nearly empty. Since I was alone, I opted for the counter. I got a friendly greeting and was immediately offered a glass of water. I pretty much order the same thing at any diner I go to. Two eggs poached, crispy hash browns, sausage and rye toast. I ordered ice tea to drink. The iced tea came right away, but my food order took a while (about 15 minutes - which I think is too long; considering it wasn't crowded). The eggs were done to perfection. The sausage was OK (3 skinny links). The hash browns were crispy, but the portion was meager. She forgot my rye toast and I had to ask twice for it. She dropped the check along with my rye toast and I never heard back from her again. My impression was; "Here, you got your food, now leave me alone". The bill was $12.21. Not outrageous, but still higher than the quality and quantity of the food warranted. I don't stiff servers. They have a hard job and their base pay is abysmal. In this case I left a buck. I live equal distance from Louie's and the Cozy Corner Cafe on Lake in Oak Park. I chose Louie's today because I had business nearby. I'll give them another try, but if the experience is anything like I got today; I'll be going back to Cozy Corner. Their prices are comparable, but the service and quality (and quantity)...
Read moreThe rudest staff member I have ever come across! Out of my 45 years of living i have never been treated like this at any restaurant that I visited. Me and my wife were ask to wait for a table and we waited mind you we are the only ones waiting... 3 open tables came up and we still weren't seated. Afterwards I ask the waitress why are we not being seated and she completely ignored me! Then I informed her that her Attitude is unnecessary and she became even more rude! Me and my wife left. I called and asked to speak to a manager and I was told there was no manager available for at least an hour. I walked back in and ask for a manager again and a cook comes out and tell me that he is the owner. After attempting to speak to him the rude waitress started to argue with me I told her several times that I was not talking to her I was speak to the cook slash owner. She continued to be rude! Then the other so called manager finally comes out and begins to cry in front of me telling me about her sick dog and she having a hard time coping. Not being insensitive I hug her and told her it will be ok and she was apologetic but it doesn't fix the fact of your staff! I will never visit this...
Read moreCame here for Sunday morning breakfast at about 9am. Good thing because if we came any later we would have had to wait as we got the next to last table and the line behind us was soon starting to form. Everything about this place feels right. The food, service, atmosphere and even the clientele. You get the feeling you're eating breakfast with the neighborhood folks who come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Everyone knows each other and the waitstaff welcomes the newcomers as warmly as they do the regulars. I had the #2 breakfast special with ham and pancakes. You'd think that was real simple, but it is anything but. Everything was top notch quality and tasted divine. My partner had eggs benedict and the size of the Canadian Bacon was unbelievable, but it was tender, smoky and delicious. You can tell the sauce is homemade and the egg was set perfectly. The bottomless coffee is also noteworthy good. I usually don't go on like this for breakfast, but Louie's is that good. If we come back and have to wait, we will, because the wait will...
