When they advertise as 'old school', they are completely accurate! I was passing through Quakertown; really wanted to find an eggplant parm sandwich from a REAL Italian Restaurant. (Anymore, many local / L. Valley restaurants have 'Italian' stamped on the outside but when I go inside, I am greeted in Spanish and hear the same-beat-different lyric music blasting in the background). Anyway.... I Googled 'Italian Restaurant, Eggplant' while fueling at Speedway and Sal's was the second listing. (He's located in the Country Square Shopping Center, about 1 mile south of the 663 &309 Intersection, off Trumbauersville Rd). The Mall parking lot was empty; I parked in front of the Axe Throwing Sport Center. I made it to the front door, opened, and I heard someone behind the counter singing a song in Italian !!! I knew I came to the right place!! I ordered the Eggplant Parm; waited in the cozy dining area. The woman who took my order was very charming; she said I could pay while waiting so when the food came, I could exit without any stop at the register. I didn't wait long for the order and since I already paid, I exchanged thank you and goodbyes with her and went to the parking lot. I set up on the trunk of my car opened the wrapping and made it to the huge sandwich. Took a bite off the edge; sandwich was stuffed!! I felt a spark shoot up my back. Pure Italian Food. REAL Cheese and I think the eggplant was from the Garden of Eden!!! I actually felt energy from that REAL vegetable. Will go back to Sal's for sure: for another eggplant parm.......
Read moreI had stopped using Sal’s for pizza because there is always a problem—delivery takes forever, crust underdone, sends wrong order, etc. I ordered tonight because the pizza place I prefer was closed. I called in a pizza to pick up w/2 toppings. I was told 20-25 mins. I got there in 25 mins and the young girl behind the corner took my payment and didn’t come back to me with the pie. I saw some of the pizza makers scrambling around looking in the boxes but apparently they forgot to make my order. I saw the older man take an already cooked pizza and throw on the two toppings I requested and put it back in the oven. I waited another 10 mins without anyone saying anything to me. Finally, I asked and they got it out of the oven. Pizza is not the same when you put the toppings on afterwards—it’s not as good. But there was no apology or price adjustment, etc. I think their pizza is mediocre at best. Go to Frank’s NY Pizza if you want good pizza...
Read moreSal’s Pizza Randa About a month ago several pizzas from Sal's were brought to our Fire House for all to enjoy by ServPro. As fate would have it we were on a call for several hours, so by the time we returned they were cold. I had a slice of the tomato pie, which I had never previously tasted. Upon having the slice cold I vowed to get a tomato pie nice and hot. Well today I satisfied my urging. On first glimpse the pie looks delicious a thin crust cooked beautifully, not like on a conveyor, but with nice subtle shades of brown. A generous helping of flavorful sauce and wow the sauce is full flavored tomatoe with no artificial overtones, no excessive sugars, just magnificent tomato topped with a very nice supply of fresh basil. I love tomato pie and this one is head and shoulders above most that are touted as best. Can't wait to...
