So disappointing. I got a safe and easy menu item. The chicken tenders. They came out really overcooked and almost impossible to eat. The outside breading was so hard it actually hurt my teeth to bite down on them. I couldn’t come close to finishing them before giving up. My mom got the chicken quesadilla, which we also thought was pretty safe. It wasn’t. The amount of chicken in the quesadilla was woefully lacking. The guacamole was brown and the pico de gallo was not fresh either. The tomatoes in the pico were old and also turning brown.
Now, I don’t really know whether Uncle Bear’s is supposed to be a bar that has bar food, or if it’s designed to be a legit restaurant that also has a bar, so I don’t know whether I’m supposed to be judging the food as a restaurant or as a bar, but either way it was not good at all. We went on a Saturday night not realizing it was karaoke night, which is nobody’s fault. That’s fine. I love karaoke. I didn’t want to sing that night but I’ve gone to karaoke more times than I can count. But I just got to say, the volume of the music was over the top intrusively loud! I mean, sooooo loud! We were seated as far away from the bar area as possible and we couldn’t yell across the table to each other and hear what the other was saying. I’m sure if I came with a group of people intent on singing and drinking it would’ve been fine. Probably still too loud even then, though. But again, if this is a restaurant and a bar secondary, it could be made more comfortable for the restaurant patrons.
What I like about Uncle Bear’s is the ambience. The cleanliness and the decor and theme of the place. All of that is working well. Love the outdoor seating. Nice little fire pit area. Great! The restaurant is always immaculate! They keep a clean restaurant. That’s nice especially during a pandemic. But I’ve been here a few times and the food is always lacking. Maybe I’m not ordering the right stuff. I don’t know. But I want to keep it real. I think it does great as a small town bar hangout and I think in the future, because they are located so close to me, I do want to return but I’ll do so for some drinks and maybe some karaoke. The bar area is also very nice. Food wise though I think it’s come to the point where, I’m gonna...
Read moreUsed to be our "go-to" spot for a good bite to eat. Hadn't been in a few months and were surprised at the difference. Arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday night expecting to wait... not busy at all (surprised). Ordered our food and we all took turns going to the restrooms to wash our hands. I was absolutely disgusted with the Men's Restroom... Smelled strongly of urine, floors were gross, dead insects in sink basin, soap dispensers were broken and no paper towels... How were the food staff washing their hands when leaving restroom??? Ugh!!!
Convincing myself that the kitchen had functioning sinks and soap dispensers, we waited for our food that we had already ordered. Our favorite appetizer arrives (avocado bites), to our disappointment, tasted freezer burnt and was chewy... Not at all how we remembered it.
Main course arrives, even more disappointment. Ordered the PB&J Herds Burger (Our favorite), which came out dry as a bone... room temp and with slimy wilted lettuce. Our side of Parmesan Fries... More freezer burnt and chewy (stuck in your teeth) cuisine. Kids food was the same.
As we looked around, we realized that most employees were simply hanging out near kitchen entrance talking among each other... while the floors were needing swept, tables needed cleaned and what patrons were there sat waiting for refills or other service.
The demographic of this restaurant has definitely changed. We only recognized one of the servers (a lady appearing in her late 40s). She was the only one running around taking care of things, while the other (millennial aged group staff stood around uselessly).
Only after complaining between my family members discussing the poor quality of food and service (while the server stood behind us talking loudly to other servers)... did we then get asked "How was everything?". It was obvious that we were displeased... full plates left untouched and asking for our check. The server said "Sorry to hear that, I'll be right back". Thinking he was going to get the manager, we were surprised when he quickly dropped the check and went back to talking. I paid... we left... never...
Read moreFirst time visiting this place last night. We went to the Queen Creek location. The food was excellent, but our server was terrible. She took our order, brought our drinks, brought our bill, visible acted disgusted when she saw we only gave her a 10% tip, and ignored us when we tried to stop her to ask about the status of a separate to-go order we placed prior to leaving. I also noticed she was only staff member not wearing a mask - whether or not you believe masks are necessary or not these days, as a customer it sent a message to me that she doesn’t take my health seriously. Here are the details of our visit:
When we placed our order, one of us weren't ready and asked to order last. She took the orders of the other three then forgot the fourth member before quickly turning and disappeared to the back. After 10 minutes we flagged down another server to finish our order. Our food was finally delivered (by a different server and not ours) and was delicious. Our sever never once checked on us to see if we needed more beverage or the quality of our food. She only stopped by to give us our check. At the time we also placed a separate to-go order. We left her a $16 tip, which was just over 10%, and when she came to pick the receipt she saw that we left her a low tip and she turned to us, glared at us, then shook her head. We waited a few minutes and then tried to flag her down to check on our separate order. It was fairly obvious that she ignored our attempt to flag her down 3 times as she walked right past us and didn’t stop. We had to flag down another server to get our to-go order.
The food was good and we will give them another try, but if we are seated in Sara W’s area, we will request...
