So I accidentally must have given this place 5 stars before I went, which is unfortunate because a part of me feels bad for coming back here to reduce the stars I mistakingly and preemptively gave.
First, we had put in a reservation online. We figured when we arrived, we could ask and see if there were any seats outside. When we got there, we saw a couple tables that were open, and several that were finishing up. When I asked the hostess, she said that there were no open tables and that since we would be third on a waiting list for outdoor seating, the wait would be an hour. An hour? For three parties? I’ve worked in the restaurant industry enough to know that’s not accurate.
Unless your service sucks. Which it did.
It took TWENTY minutes for us to be even asked if a server had been by yet. A server in training came over and took our orders and she was awesome, and apologetic. The server who had been assigned to us never came over, and clearly she was assigned to us last minute (from what I was able to see when the manager was talking to our server, and the one in training, as they pointed towards our table) Drinks took forever to arrive, as did our entrees. It wasn’t a busy night so not sure what that was about.
We had the chicken wings as appetizers and they were good. My husband also got some oysters which he liked. I ordered the poke bowl and my husband got the swordfish for our entrees. His fish was a tiny portion for the price, and the tuna in my poke bowl had a weird texture and lacked the traditional flavor. But what really annoyed me was that several items in the poke bowl were not listed on the menu. I can’t eat cilantro and I’m glad I mentioned that up front, because apparently that’s a garnish on the dish. The description of the dish mentions the sauce, the rice, and the pickled ginger (btw can someone tell the chef that pickled ginger is generally used as a pallet cleanser, and that no one is gonna eat an entire half a cups worth of ginger). There was no mention on the menu of the seaweed, carrots, radish, or wontons.
And here’s the kicker out of all of this: those open tables we saw outside never saw customers. Instead of us sitting at any of those tables, they were occupied by dirty dishes.
I know this place hasn’t been opened long and I’d like to believe that these are just new-restaurant kinks that need to be worked out as thing smooth out, but there’s another ReelHouse in Boston, so this isn’t a completely new business.
I dunno, maybe it was a one off. I know that can happen at any establishment. But I think I need to give this place some time to work out their issues before I come back. I’m really hoping the service improves, since it’s a great spot.
Thanks again to our last-minute server for being so nice and...
Read moreSo unfortunate, that I have to update my review because my recent experience was bad. Let's start with the beginning of June 24th my friends and I went there to have dinner. I reserved a table. Our waiter was unprofessional, she did not remember our order. She brought what I ordered but she forgot about my friends' orders completely. After that, we went outside to take some pictures of the sunset and the host started to call me and tellen me that if we will not come back they will give our table to someone else (FYI we did not pay our bill yet.) Moreover, when we went outside we placed another round of drinks and I asked for a to-go box. I put all my food inside the to-go box and went outside, when I came back our table was cleaned up. They threw away my to-go box, I asked our waiter about it and she looked at me like I was crazy. But then they promised me to prepare a new portion and brought it to me as an apology, however, when I checked, the food was cold and I sware it was the same to-go box that they took from our table earlier. The worst part happened when we paid for a check. We gave three cards and our waiter took the check. However, she brought back only one card! I was extremely mad, I asked for a manager, on my way to the manager, I found my card on the floor! My other's friend card was found by someone and it was given to the host. I told the manager, that she was rude, and that she could try to make the situation nicer but she decided to be rude to us. The worst experience I have ever experience in a restaurant, to be honest. I have been to this place many times and I have never experienced anything like that. I do not know what happened but my other friends told me about their bad experience one week earlier and I still went there. I believe something going on there and not in a good way. Be aware.
This is my old review from last year. "It has an amazing location with a beautiful view of Boston. If you go there during the sunset, the view is amazing. We had a table outside. We ordered Oysters, raw crab meat cocktail, Peking Duck Tacos (that were so delicious, I highly recommend to try), Tuna Crudo Tacos, Ahi Tuna Poke, and Crème Brûlée. Everything tasted great! The customer service was great. This place have really tasty cocktails, we had Navy Yard Spritz. Definitely...
Read moreDon’t waste a minute of your time trying to eat here, and I really mean trying. My best friend moved to marina bay this week and we have tried, again tried, to eat here twice to no avail. We went last Saturday and were turned away at 3 pm, with countless empty tables. When we asked why we couldn’t be seated, they confessed they were short staffed and the kitchen was too backed up… at 3 pm with an empty restaurant? Ok, sure. I had heard great things about Reel house so yesterday, we tried again. We ordered two glasses of wine, oysters, and chicken wings. After being served the wine, the power went out in marina bay (not at all reel house fault). How they dealt with the adversity is the problem. We were served our oysters but not the chicken wings as the power had gone out. 4 dollars per oyster for nothing special. We’re told hey no rush enjoy the oysters and wine…. But then they dedicated their entire staff to bringing in every piece of patio furniture while we sat out there. Not only rushing us out, but dragging iron tables across a wood deck - couldn’t have been less relaxing. For the grand finale, we are brought our bill one of those tap to pay things, no receipt for us to review. We pay, and an hour later - I get the receipt texted and see not only they didn’t comp anything for the bad experience, but they charged us for the chicken wings we were never served. Since my friend lives there, she went today to give feedback, hopeful that they’d be apologetic and perhaps comp more than just the chicken wings (which we were never served as the power was out). Rude management, sends us each a measly 9 dollars for the wings and couldn’t have been less sorry. It’s overpriced and the service is trash. Better off going...
