In the heart of a bustling area, where the charm of a grocery store meets the warmth of a family kitchen, lies Mums Jamaican Restaurant. This hidden gem, doubling as a grocery, invites patrons to walk up and order, promising a culinary journey to the heart of Jamaica.
Upon entry, the aroma of spices and herbs wafts through the air, leading to an array of dishes that are nothing short of a delight. The jerk chicken, a quintessential Jamaican staple, strikes a perfect balance - tender, with just enough spice to tickle the palate without overwhelming it. Beside it, the curry chicken stands out with its deep, complex flavors, each bite transporting you to the streets of Kingston.
The sides, often an afterthought in many eateries, shine equally here. The mac and cheese is a creamy dream, rich in flavor and perfectly cheesy. Collard greens and cabbage, seasoned to perfection, add a fresh, flavorful contrast to the rich meats.
And then, the unexpected star - the carrot cake. Often relegated to a mere endnote, here it takes center stage with its impeccable texture, moist yet holding its shape, not too crumbly, and striking a delectable balance of sweetness and spice.
The service at Mums Jamaican Restaurant is a reflection of the food: genuine, warm, and full of belief in the quality of their offerings. The owners’ pride in their culinary creations is evident, making every patron feel like a guest in their home.
Ease of access is the cherry on top, with ample parking and easy-to-find location, removing any barriers to this delightful experience.

Read moreYesterday, I bought over $230.00 in meals from the MUMs restaurant. I bought six packs of roast breadfruit peeled and allowed the breadfruit to defrost naturally in the package. The breadfruit was so slimy; that I called Jamaica to ask my sister-in-law if this seemed normal. Because even though I know ripe breadfruit can be a little sticky, this slime was bacteria slimy. I called the store and notified them. I was told someone would call me back. No one called me, so I took it here. I am told by the so-called manager, "no return. Don't you see the sign". Which I honestly did not. If you purchase items at a restaurant or even supermarket, if it is rotten or spoiled, and you bring it to their attention, they will refund you anywhere in America. This is not like I ordered stew chicken, got curry chicken, then left the building, and now return wanting the stew chicken to seek a refund or an exchange. This is why black people's businesses cannot prosper because they don't treat their customers. It is my fault because it did not even have an expiration date on the bag to indicate spoilage timeframe or when it was ever prepared or made. The lady I dealt with was apologizing for the issue. You would think the manager would be grateful she was. She told the girl no need to apologize, and the sign said no refund. Never again buy...
Read moreFood wasn't bad but customer services was poor from the time I walk through the door until I made it to the counter until the time I left. The older woman that I dealt with obviously did not want to be there and at no point in time made an attempt to be pleasant about the interaction. The younger woman that handled a portion of the interaction was pleasant enough in comparison to the older womans but customer service was severely poor considering some of the reviews that I've read about this place. Also the "dumplings" that they had available were not dumplings but balls of overcooked dough, not soft, not flavorful in the least, even to be dumplings. I'm a cook, those should not have been made available for sale and I wish I had walked in ahead of time rather than places the order and picked up, I would have taken my business elsewhere. Maybe it was a bad night for them but then again, they are offering a service and with that should come respectable customer service. The review by Angelica, if we are referring to the same older lady who was serving the food was accurate for me too, she should not be the one dealing firsthand with customers. I highly recommend Lee's Kitchen Jamaica around the corner on Capital. The food is great, they acknowledge you when you walk in and a better experience overall,...
