Was told by a couple of coworkers that I must try Shabu Shabu as their sushi is amazing and I have to agree! I arrived at lunch time, so it was pretty busy. The manager warmly greeted me and took me to my table. My waiter was a little cold and it felt like he was really rushed. He sat down my menu and asked me right away what I wanted. I told him that I needed a couple of minutes and he did not come back or even around me for like 10 minutes. Before my stomach could eat itself he reappeared and took my order. I got their bogo sushi deal; and decided to get the Wolfpack roll and Samurai roll. The Wolfpack roll has crab, avocado, scallions, and tempura flakes. The Samurai roll had cream cheese, salmon, and scallions. Wow! They give you a generous portion of fresh sushi along with ginger and Wasabi. Everything is fresh and so worth the wait! It still stays good as I could not finish the rolls and took them with me. I cannot wait to come back as a couple of dudes next to me had their Thai basil which came with tons of veggies! They highly recommend it as they get it every time. So I will be back!

Only good for sushi, everything else wasn't worth it for the price. Ordered Sumo roll, Okinawa roll, Tofu pad Thai with Tom kha soup, Japanese sampler, and Satay skewers. Satay itself was dry but edible. Only has 3 skewers, peanut sauce was bad, and pickled vegetables okay but little spicy, overall not worth $9 for 3 skewers. Japanese sampler taste wise was good, but every app was very small, 2 shumai with mustard sauce(yellow), 2 gyoza with dumpling sauce(brown), and 1 chicken harumaki(strip of chicken rolled up with cheddar cheese) with spring roll sauce(orange), up to debate if it was worth $8. Pad Thai with side of Tom kha was inedible. The pad Thai had tofu, egg, crumbled peanuts, bean sprouts and 1 lime wedge. Noodles stuck together and were just tossed in what seemed to be the spring roll sauce, overly sweet in a bad way, was only able to eat the tofu. The soup had cilantro, mushroom and tofu, kinda like a watered down sour Alfredo sauce, wasn't able to take more than a sip. Definitely not worth $19 this was the only item none of us could take a second bite of and had to throw away, everything else we could at least finish. Sumo and Okinawa rolls were perfect. They were basically the same except Sumo had eel on top and Okinawa had spicy mayo on top. I had asked for the spicy mayo on the side and they complied, I think they even put the eel sauce on the side, which was a plus. Sumo was $14 and Okinawa was $16, a little pricey but was the only thing I think was worth it. Would maybe order again but only for sushi. Pro's: excellent packing, labeled everything, followed request, good sushi, Japanese appetizers were good. Con's: Awful Thai items(at least the ones I tried), and a bit pricey.

My boyfriend and I had some expectations for this place, being that the reviews from other customers were of quality. However, our experience was NOT that. The place looked put together and the waitress was nice despite our discontent with our dining experience. The glasses that the water came in were dirty and had food residue on it. The BOGO sushi we ordered was beyond subpar, and was smaller than expected. Even the man sitting at the table behind us ordered one roll and asked for the check, because he was not interested in a free roll with his BOGO. The consistency of the rice was not that of sticky rice, it was almost like the rice was soggy. The ebi shumai we ordered was sitting in the water that it must’ve been steamed in. It had no flavor and was also soggy. The crispy veggie rolls were okay but tasted like tap water. Now, to the main course. I ordered the Pla Sam Rod, which was fried tilapia on a bed of steamed cabbage, chopped peppers and some sort of sweet and sour sauce. It was okay, and edible, but nothing extraordinary. My boyfriend was more than displeased with his shrimp Pad See Ew. He felt like there was effort put into writing the name of the restaurant on the side of the dish, in sauce, than the actual dish itself. He didn’t even finish it. The sauce, and the dish itself, seemed to lack flavor and was tasteless. The “sauce” that it was cooked in was watery and had little flavor. Additionally, the dishes the food were served in were old, chipped, and stained. We personally would NOT recommend coming here for authentic Thai and/or Japanese food.

I've been to this restaurant almost 20 times over the past 10 years, but I'm going to quit. I love the Tom Yum Soup, and they've been willing to modify the sushi ingredients, which are higher than similar restaurants. The waiters are attentive and positive, but not available frequently enough even when it is dead empty. They have adopted the hand-held credit card reader, so the last 3-4x, I left confused and upset. They come out with the total price so you never see the individual items. What if the waiter made a mistake with ringing up the order? I am an educator so a date for sushi is indulgent with my budget. I can barely afford their prices and wouldn't buy sushi without the BOGO, which is a standard in the industry so everyone already expects the cost to be adjusted. The sushi is $2-3 higher per roll than a dozen great sushi places in the Triangle. The automatic 15-20% tip buttons are based on the cost BEFORE the BOGO discount. They do not tell you this. It is deceiving and costs you an extra $5-10 beyond the 20% that you already generously calculated. A dinner for two with a drink and appetizer is easily $100 including tip. If I have to pay a servant $20 to talk to me a few seconds during the meal, then they are getting more than I earn teaching for an hour! In other words, this restaurant cares more about presentation and an illusion of high class ambiance than they do about transparency with the customer's wallet and actual value of the experience.

This review is an average of my two visits to this place. On my most recent visit, my wife and I had miso soup, Tom yum going soup, Pad Thai with shrimp and pineapple fried rice. The miso soup was your typical soybean broth and the Thai soup was well balanced in that the lemony taste, from lemongrass, wasn't overpowering the other spices which is a mistake that is commonly made in many places which specialize in Thai cuisines. The Pad Thai had the classic Thai taste of sweet, sour and salty. The pineapple fried rice could have used a bit more seasoning and the flavor of the pineapples was not quite emanating off the dish. All in all, it was a decent experience. On my previous visit, I had the BOGO sushi from their sushi menu. It was my best sushi experience in Raleigh to date. A perfect marriage between the sour and salty flavors. Some sushis like BK rolls offer pieces of shrimp along with the sushi. How cool is that? Overall, an amazing place for BOGO sushis. Do note that the BOGO sushis are not available on split checks.

This is a great spot for good food and good sushi with family and friends. My family and I stopped by this restaurant after church on Sunday for some lunch. It was fairly empty so we had no issues getting a seat right away and getting our food on time. There is an option of booth or regular seating. It has a modern set up which created a nice atmosphere for dining. I really liked how the menu is set up where sushi rolls are buy one get one free and dinner is available and served all day every day. Our server was professional and greeted us with pleasantries. We ordered soup, entrées, and sushi. All items came out in a timely manner. Everything was cooked well and tasted great. One of the sushi rolls ordered was supposed to be spicy but there was no real spiciness to it; nevertheless, it tasted really good despite that. We enjoyed our visit and would visit again.
