Yesterday I was at ShabaShabu where the sushi actually had PLASTIC in it!!!!!!!! To top it off I bring the plate back and the manager, Peter Simpson, treated me like I was the one wrong in front of all the customers in the restaurant. He admitted that the plastic came from the crab sticks that were in my sushi and the cook didn't remove the wrapping before adding it to my roll and slicing it up. He responded like it was no big deal, waving his hands and sucking his teeth as if to say "Whatever just let it go". I ordered a spider roll and Wolfpack roll both with NO AVACADO as I am highly allergic to it. He went to the back and the cooks make the sushi over, put it back in the Same to-go container that I had left the restaurant in the first time and walked back into the restaurant with it in my hands, plus we spit the plastic back onto the plate! Anywhere else would have thrown it away and made me a fresh plate. To top it off guess what the second set of rolls had in it? AVACADO!!! So now I'm pretty ticked off and hungry and late for my original destination, my child got choked up on plastic, they put a food allergen on my plate, gave me back the same plate and dirty fork I walked back into the restaurant with. The manager was trying to rush me away so no one would hear these complaints and he kept walking away from me trying to ignore me and go about other task. He never even offered an apology. Not once. So while waiting to get the third plate, that never came, and upset at the fact that the manager wasn't trying to offer me an apology or customer service for the inconvenience they caused and for the health code and safety violations, he refunded the money and told me to "leave, just get out". I have received better customer service from fast food chains. He left me feeling humiliated. I watched him interact with the other guest and something I noticed very different from how he treated me. So I couldn't help but say to him if I was a different race I wouldn't be treated this way. This African man had the nerve to grin at me and say "You're right" WOW! Now how come it looks different for me when I complain about my food safety in the skin that I'm in as apposed to me being another race. We all want safe food for our children and ourselves to eat. Definitely if I was of another race and my child was sitting in the restaurant choking off plastic he would have responded very differently. He told one of the guys working there that he wasn't worried about it (my complaint causing any problems). I didn't even come in cursing or being disrespectful. I only spoke a little louder when he played down my complaint as if I was being petty and that offended me. Is it petty to complain that you have plastic that you're son got choked up on in your food? Is it petty to complain that your food allergy item was put in your food and if you didn't notice it would have made you sick or worse? Is it petty to expect a clean plate and fork after you and your son has spit out chewed up plastic back onto the original plate? What do you think? No one should be treated this way. I hope this review helps someone considering visiting this place. The manger was arragant, unconcerned and plain out mean!! The rest of the staff was pretty nice but they have to answer to him so what...
Read moreWe stayed in Raleigh while visiting family. We are from Orlando, Florida. After trying out a ton of fun bbq places and biscuit places, we decided it was my turn to choose. I always go for the Asian option. We searched through google and decided on Shabu Shabu. It seemed similar to most places in Orlando as far as atmosphere and we didn’t see a problem in going for a regular lunch with our two kids. Unfortunately, right as we walked in, we were greeted with a very apprehensive host that stared at us as if we were aliens for bringing our children. It still didn’t seem that fancy in there to me, so I shrugged it off and followed him to our table. As we followed, the lady waitress literally gave us a dirty look and I realized oh… they think their restaurant is too fancy for our kids. I chuckled a little, because this place didn’t come close to what they were comparing themselves to in Orlando. Thankfully, our waiter (the only actual Asian person in the restaurant) was the most pleasant older man we had encountered. He was calm and understanding about our children. He made great suggestions for what they might enjoy since there was not a kids menu (which was perfectly fine). We decided on the teriyaki chicken with fried rice and veggies for our boys to share. It was delicious and more than enough food for the price. My husband and I decided to share an appetizer and we ordered four sushi rolls off their BOGO menu. The appetizer was delicious, but the sushi was just average. The yellowtail did not taste fresh. Overall, though, we enjoyed the food and our waiter really made up for our awkward welcome as we entered. We left him a generous cash tip that we really hoped he did not have to share with anyone. Something really odd that we noticed was that we were seated in a back corner of the restaurant away from others although we could still see everything. The host and the other waitress were attending to the front of the restaurant while our waiter had our table and maybe one other. The host was very helpful to the waitress as she had many tables. He would refill waters and bring food plates out as well, but our table was given odd looks by him and we were completely ignored. We definitely could tell we were not really welcomed. Our waiter did it all for us, took our order, made suggestions, brought our food and refilled our waters. He was great! I wish I could remember his name. He complimented us at the end for having very well behaved children who eat well too. I think that if you eliminate the workers who thought their restaurant deserved some sort of Michelin star, this place was actually really good for the price. It was no fancy Orlando place that my husband and I save for date night though. We knew it wouldn’t be just based off of the menu alone, so I’m still unsure as to why we were treated that way by the others. I will say this, Raleigh seemed very different from the last time we were there visiting. The separations between socioeconomic groups was way more obvious and we weren’t treated very nicely at a Trader Joe’s either which is a regular place we shop at with our kids in Orlando too, so we just assumed people’s higher than though attitudes in that area is because they are proud they have nice things even though those are more like average things for us in...
Read moreAt first visit here, I sat at the bar during lunch. It was ok, I noticed the staff wasn't friendly and there were TVs in bar area... you just stare at a wall. Second visit, I sat in the back with two co-workers. Once we were sat, our server told us we would have our bill on one check and could all pay but that she couldn't split the checks. We asked if we sat in the bar area, would it be easier. She said no, all groups pay on one check. We found it strange, clarified again and agreed to one check where we could split our payments. Here's the kicker. We all ordered BOGO sushi and one person ordered spring rolls. Two of us ordered the $6.90 BOGO (4) sushi and one ordered a $12.90 & $13.60 (2) BOGO. The check came. The server took off three $6.90 sushi rolls leaving one $6.90 roll and the $12.90, $13.60 rolls. So rather than two people paying roughly $7+tax for their meals they were now on a total ticket average. The other person wasn't paying the $13.60+ tax but rather for the two rolls. If we have split if all "evenly" which wasn't ever mentioned then we would all pay $10+ a meal. She also provided a separate check for the spring rolls. First, why are you able to split the spring rolls and NOT the bogo sushi like you stated you couldn't do? Second, how deceitful to lead us to believe it would be split amongst our seats/order while remaining on one check. Third, so if we had sat next to each other at the bar as opposed to sitting together, we then could have had our own checks? This is outrageous and horrible business. Immediately we brought this to the GM or MOD, which he didn't identify himself at all and when asked he didn't answer us with a clarification on which position he held. Our server, Idah, was also there... rolling her eyes telling us she explained it. By the way, we only got her name because of the checks. They also refused to answer us when we repeatedly asked for her name.I highly recommend you avoid IDAH. She cannot be trusted with your money. The GM/MOD laughed at us and told us we should know better when ordering BOGO. His response was to ask us if we have ever bought BOGO elsewhere. Rather than rectifying the deceit and bill he merely laughed and told us it was our fault. Listen, we love sushi. This doesn't take away from the quality of food but this review serves to notify future consumers of the POOR QUALITY or lack of.. customer service and management. This is a business who takes your money and as far as we are aware, wrongfully charges you and does not care about making it right. We said we wouldn't come back due to the way they handled this situation and they said: "GOOD". What kind of a response is that. We asked questions, we clarified the best we could prior to ordering and we're still...
