I recently heard about The Mill from one of my recruiter friends. So, a couple of girlfriends and I went to check it out. Immediately we were impressed with the ascetic and ambiance. Our waitress, Marissa, was super nice and helpful. She was able to offer suggestions and her descriptions made our mouths water. So, two of us ordered the Wood-fried Pork Chop and my other friend ordered the Mill Burger. We also had the Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned.
When our plates arrived, they were very appealing; we couldn’t wait to dig in. The pork chops were paired with blue cheese mac + cheese and rapini (it’s like a broccolini). I wasn’t too sure about the Mac as I’m not a blue cheese fan, but it was really nice… the sauce was subtle and not pungent as one would think. For me, it was actually the best part of the meal. The pork chop, for me, left a lot to be desired. While it was a rather large chop, about four fingers, it wasn’t seasoned well and as we got closer to the bone, it was undercooked to raw in some places.
A gentleman came over to check on us, this was before we really got into the meal and I shared my thoughts on the chop being under seasoned as well as my misconception on the apple agrodolce which was on top of the chop. How it was explained, I expected a sauce, not applesauce, but something a bit more thick and less liquidy. He took our notes and thanked us.
When our waitress came back to check on us, we had made our way through the meal and the unfortunate undercooked meat. We also explained our discontent with what was left. She explained about the cut and the cook-time etc then sent for the manager. He,in turn, came over and did more explaining, while apologizing, and made it right.
All in all, I would definitely got back for drinks as they were on point. And I’d definitely get an order of that blue cheese mac.
**note that they are working on a new menu with a new chef and the the four finger chop will not be a part of that new menu. The new menu is expected with...
Read moreThis restaurant was recently recommended to me by some friends while I was trying to find a new place to go for my anniversary. They had raved so highly about their experience that my wife and I decided that it would be fun to check it out. I used to stop in at the previous restaurant at that location so it was exciting to see all of the renovations. We sat on the patio. The space is beautiful and contemporary, and separates itself so well from the busy traffic on that corner that I completely forgot it was there.
Brendan was our server and he was fantastic. I mentioned we were planning on taking our time and he aced his timing. We were there for a little over three hours and he was always right there when we were ready for the next drink or plate. He had the art of non verbal checks mastered. We weren’t near anyone he was waiting on and he absolutely made it look like he was walking by our table for real reasons while he was watching our drink and food levels.
At one point another sever, Madison, pre-bussed our table and noticed my wife’s drink was empty and offered another one, Brendan was on it already - but great teamwork! All of the food was delicious, but truthfully the service is what we’ll be back for.
Shout out to the host this evening (Oct 10), I’m sorry I didn’t get her name. I walked in and asked her if the staff were friends, which I get is an odd question out of the blue. She handled it with grace and responded that they were so I left my cash tip on the table instead of tracking down Brendan to give it to him. Great job to the whole team! except the manager who we didn’t see in the three hours we were there, I really wanted to let them know how great...
Read moreHad higher expectations based on the reviews. Made a reservation for four for my daughter's 19th birthday. Sat outside next to a whitewashed brick wall. I only mention that because throughout the evening I ended up with white "chalky" paint, or whatever is on the brick, on me. We ordered honey rolls and immediately noticed that they had what appeared to be mold all over the bottom of them. They also seemed stale. The waiter was very understanding and credited the cost of our appetizers. My son and wife liked their food (steak frites and shrimp pasta). My daughter and I split the cowboy steak that is advertised for two people. We were told the cowboy steak is so big that it takes 20-30 minutes to prepare. We agreed that wasn't a problem. When we received our food about 30 minutes later everything was hot except for the steak that was just above room temperature. Cold for a steak. It seemed like the kitchen didn't start preparing all our other food until the steak was done cooking. That would explain why everything else was hot. I was hungry and we'd already been waiting awhile so I didn't complain or send the steak back to be reheated. Not sure how that would have turned out anyway. The food was well seasoned and tasted good. At least the entrees. They also brought out an appetizer at no charge (bacon wrapped dates stuffed with gorgonzola) but didn't discuss it with us otherwise we would have opted for something else. My wife doesn't eat bacon and my kids don't like gorgonzola. I do appreciate the attempts to make up for moldy rolls. Ultimately this won't be a restaurant we return to. Which is unfortunate because it isn't far...
