This what I wrote 1 year ago -- "Always a great meal as well as different changes to the menu so the customer does not become complacent with the same menu over and over again. All menu selections, drink specials, and bar prices are the lowest in the area with a very friendly staff every time you walk through the door. Want a great meal and experience? Visit Houlihan's on Rt 17 North, Ramsey. You will not be disappointed."

1 year later -- We have been very disappointed with this location in recent months. The menu is so-so, the desserts are poorly executed, and the drinks sub-par. The waiting staff in the main dining rooms are excellent. Of the 3 bartenders usually working, 1 is personable, 1 is so-so, and the last one is greedy, meaning, she will take half your order and then cater to the table of 5. What is frustrating at least is that we are very good tippers. These bartenders have grown accustomed to us as loyal patrons and it has been obvious that our orders are taken then we are forgotten. We don't need constant conversation, but an acknowledgement now and then would be refreshing. Vickie is the greedy one. On our last visit sitting at the bar, she took our drink orders & delivered them. She said she would give us a few minutes to order. A table of 6 sat down at a high top. Not only were we forgotten, but she took their drink order, brought out their appetizers, and took their meal orders, all while we sat and watched, waiting for her acknowledgement, which never came. The feeling we got was that she thinks - "They always leave a good tip, no matter what, so I can take my time with them". So, we left without eating and went to Brady's in town. If, and that is a big IF we go back, we will never sit in the bar where we like to go but go to the dining area where we may be treated like patrons who are...

On a whim, at a little before 9:00pm, I stopped in at the local Houlihan’s in Ramsey, NJ for dinner.

I ordered the house Pinot Grigio, which by the way is delicious. I asked and it is from the Canyon Road vineyards. Smooth, delicious and refreshing.

I tried something new to me from the menu, as I like to do that.

I tried the Korean Chicken (a fried chicken breast like no other that I have ever had)... just take my word for it and try it ... or keep reading!

The Korean Chicken breast came out from the kitchen in about 10-15 minutes, as they were not very busy.

I will say this... Wow, Wow, Wow!

Terrible experience at this location first time I ever been there and will never return. First off the smaller things. Drinks were super weak. Ordered an acai daze barely tasted like it had any alcohol in it, I'm not an alcoholic I barely drink only when out but I couldn't taste a thing 8 dollar juice basically. Second problem, I ordered the sizzling fajitas combo meal. At chilis, and I know this isn't chilis, it comes with shrimp chicken and steak which I mistakenly thought was the same "combo" here. Turns out it's not, combo here is just chicken and steak but when I asked for shrimp he put the order in but I wasn't made aware until the bill came that these four little pieces of shrimp were going to cost an extra 8 dollars. So the "combo" I thought was 16.99 came out to almost 25 dollars. That's fine if that's what you charge but have your servers alert the customers that the extra shrimp isn't part of the combo and will cost them an extra 8 especially when the customer says to the waiter does that come with chicken shrimp and steak and the waiter says you want shrimp okay and that's it. Uninformed customer. Not cool. Lastly and most importantly, my girl got food poisoning from the salad eaten here. We were together all day ate the same breakfast and lunch at home and went out to dinner at Houlihan's. She had the buffalo chicken salad and a soup. I tried some of the soup and I was fine so we think it was the salad since it's the only thing we had different that day. I didn't try it. She was complaining of abdominal pains later on at the movies and the next day had all the classic symptoms of food poisoning and had to leave work early. Bad experience. They need to check on their food and also have better customer service. The waiter was nice personality wise but didn't do the best job...

Wow, Wow, Wow! <<<< There was a choice to have it fried or grilled... being diet conscious, grilled sounded appealing...I asked the bartenders, Carolina and Joe, and they immediately said “everyone prefers it FRIED”!!! As a note, on their menu, the fried version is only 110 calories more than grilled and worth every single calorie to have it fried! So fried it was and I could not have been happier. It was very-very crispy but “NOT AT ALL GREASY/OILY”. Well I thought that maybe it was Air-Fried, as it was that non-oily/greasy. So I asked the bartender, Joe, and he said that after deep frying the chefs put it on a “Save-A-Day tray” to let the oil drip off. THAT MUST BE WHY IT IS SOOOO CRISPY AND NOT OILY. When I told Joe how much I was enjoying this meal, he called over Andy one of the managers. (Note: the 3 staff members, Carolina. Joe & Andy, that spoke with me were all very personable and a pleasure to deal with.) The seasonings and mildly spicy sauces on the Korean Chicken, were incredible. It was served with steamed broccoli and carrots (steamed perfectly) and on a bed of wild rice! I literally almost ordred a second one... (not joking)! I am looking forward to coming back soon to have it again (really)!

Stunning architecture and love the Dark vibes/mood the atmosphere brings. No bright lights and no flashy shows! Just food and nice people. Our server was very nice and she accommodated us when we needed refills or more napkins. We sat very hastily and the wait was little to none for our server to ask us for our order. We didn't know what we wanted besides the Nachos (which were told by our last server before was the best she's ever had). We noticed after waiting for about 10 minutes that no food was coming in or out of the kitchen. We were getting a little worried that the food would be a while so we looked at what we wanted to eat for our entrée. I ordered the burger and my bf ordered a Philly Cheese Stake. By the time we had received our orders were starving and annoyed. It took almost 40 minutes to receive our meal. We had already finished our Nachos (which to our surprise did not have enough meat or condiments like sour creme and guacamole to enjoy. We were long finished with our appetizers and those plates were taken away before we received our orders. They were hot so we knew it was fresh but as we continued to eat, I took note that on a Friday night around dinner time now, and a dining room now filling up, no food was coming out. After finishing our meals, our server asked if we needed anything else and we said no. The reason was, that we did not want to wait for our food any longer. We enjoyed our entrees more than the appetizers and we of course had leftovers that were eaten the next day and were delicious. We don't think we will go back, maybe a while from now but we did enjoy the food when it finally arrived. Our server was very generous and kept us in the loop about our food and we appreciated that even if it took a while longer, we know it's not her fault. Left a 20% tip and left.

Ordered the drink shown in the pic and when the drink came I asked about the missing ingredients… the blueberries and rosemary neither of which were in the drink. We were told they ran out of garnish. Our waitress also said they strained the muddled blueberries which was a joke. And it just tasted of lemonade. There’s an uncle Guisieppe’s in walking distance. Send someone or say we don’t have ingredients do you still want the drink! WTH? The glass had a sharp chip so if you didnt use a straw you’d cut your lip. I guess that was fine because we had a straw! What ? Couldn’t even find the waitress to say anything. Should have returned the drink and left. The French onion soup had more bread than soup and onions. My husband rarely complains and he didn’t finish the soup. My pecan crusted salad was served with burnt chicken and was mealy. Did I mention my fork was dirty too. My husband gave me his because the waitress was mia. Someone just threw salt on the fries carelessly and the bottom of the side of fries was inedible Most managers usually pass the tables and ask how everything is even if they’re busy. His face never broke a smile. He actually looked angry the entire time he was walking around snapping orders. Our waitress was hardly even there. Took forever to get the food too and we ordered no appetizers. It was around 4:30 on Sunday. Horrible experience. All this for 60$ plus tip. You can see what we left for the trash pail.
