I, like a lot of people, came across this restaurant via instagram promotion for black owned businesses in Sacramento. My family doesn’t eat pork & we’re from the south, so we were really excited about supporting the business and getting beef ribs.
The first time I attempted to go, was a Saturday around 2:15pm but I left with no food. I waited in line until 3:05pm, outside the building in the sun and only moved 10-15ft and was nowhere near the counter to make an order. While in line I heard other customers saying that they hope they didn’t “run out of food again”. This made me nervous because I had already seen reviews saying they ran out of food often with no warning after hours of waiting.
Disappointed, I figured I’d try again the next week, and that was today. I assumed they may just be family owned so I should get there early in case they did run out of food. I got there 45min before they opened and jumped in line as soon as they opened. Fortunately this this time I was able to order two beef rib plates. I travelled down from Rocklin to Arden to support, so I checked the food before I left… only to find ONE rib in my box. $26 for ONE rib and 2 small sides. I was confused because I had never seen that before at any bbq restaurant from the Midwest, Deep South, Tri-state areas. After checking the other box I noticed there were 2 pieces but one looked very thin.
I went back to the restaurant to check to see if there had been any possible issue, not aggressively or rude. I went back in and only asked if the rib plate was supposed to have 1 or 2 ribs because the boxes were the same plate but didn’t match in rib count. The cook explained that they charged $15/ rib… I didn’t argue, I didn’t yell, I just said “ok”. Based on that logic, 2 ribs ALONE would be $30.
Finally, upon eating the food… the collard greens tasted like they were canned and just heated up with little no seasoning. The “baked” beans were watery, and I had never seen baked beans that appeared to be sloshing in water only darkened by the natural liquid from the can. The beef rib was not “bad”, but it was dry and wasn’t seasoned. It seemed as if someone simply put the rib on the grill directly from the packaging and played it after it was charred.
I spent $60+ for two rib plates, after one failed attempt, only to have a less than average meal. As seen in the picture, the menu states $18 for “Ribs”(plural) plate but I was told it’s an extra $10 for beef ribs. The employees were all nice in my experience, but it just seems as if they aren’t organized as the lines are long but I don’t believe it’s because the food is “that good”. Unfortunately, I will not be supporting again & hopefully they get a better approach to their quality and...
Read moreI never leave reviews anywhere, good or bad, but I have to make sure everybody knows just how amazing Kaylo’s is! I went in today for the first time to pick up a few items I ordered, and it felt like I was coming into a spot that I’d been coming to for years. Everybody on the staff was so nice and made sure I was taken care of while waiting.
While waiting, I got to meet the man behind it all, Los, and that man is working some magic over at this spot. They’ve only been in this spot for a little over a year, but already are the best BBQ I’ve had on the west coast. There’s just something to it. Even as I’m writing this, the peppery smokiness of the ribs and links just make you feel like you’ve never had BBQ before. If good food is what you want, they’ve got the great stuff here.
Even on a little bit of a crowded intersection, they’ve set it up to where you feel like you’re in your own oasis away from the noise. With a full bar, karaoke, and these good vibes? Man you can’t go wrong.
All in all, I can guarantee you haven’t been to a place that has the love Los and Kay put in the food and the business. Especially nowadays, it feels so refreshing to go to a place that makes your heart smile wider than your belly. Sacramento is lucky to have this spot and its people. If you’re second guessing, take this review as your call to GO!! Thank...
Read moreI will never come back to this restaurant. I ordered a little bit of everything. Ribs, links, and all the sides. Took my food to go and proceeded home to eat. 100.00 worth of barbecue and sides. The ribs were edible but the best thing was the sauce as the rib was lacking seasoning and ribs shouldn't be completely fall off the bone they should have a bite to them. The links we're okay. I've had store-bought potato salad that was better than this! The filthy rice is just that the rice was undercooked and it seemed like it was all mixed together in the kitchen sink very Bland. And I guess the saying is true you can't eat everyone's greens these greens were undercooked and under seasoned very disappointed. The mac and cheese was cooked proper but still was lacking seasoning. I can't leave a review on the baked beans as they never made it in my bag. Take this review however you want you've been warned if you really would like to check out a good barbecue place look at my other reviews hell buckhorn's is better than this place. Had to edit and add this thought I threw all of the food away was unable to finish my plate. Family was...
