Rosie's Country Kitchen — Restaurant in Rancho Cordova

My comrades and I landed on this gem midway through a 4-hour road trip between Oakland and Rancho Cordova. The immediate appeal? A sleepy, if vibrantly tinted diner splashed with adverts for Steak & Eggs -- not even close... In a complete curve ball moment our team had to do a double take to confirm a striking hand painted footnote reading, "Indian Food Served Here" -- 'nough said, we're in.

Rosie's interior and food are equally awesome in quality and diversion from the IHOP 'norm'. Bacon Pecan Waffles, Chili Burgers, Chicken Vindaloo, insane hot sandwiches and the BEST Sweet Potato Fries YOU WILL EVER HAVE await [seriously, the SP fries are without match]. I was floored when even our dietitian driver dove face first into a classic patty melt -- one of roughly 100 options to choose from in this perfect cultural mashup.

Finally, even though we (i.e. me) must have completed every single employee within earshot for having satisfied our hunger, it cannot go without saying that Rosie's staff are some of the sweetest, most hospitible professionals in food service. Not a single coffee cup bottomed out and our food was off the griddle, piping hot within 8 minutes. Best I-80 road find for Beef Dips and soap...

We came in and were greeted immediately, told to sit anywhere. The table we happened to pick hadn't been cleaned yet and they came over and wiped it down. They got us coffee quickly, it was not good. I love some good diner coffee and this was not it. They have a large variety of food on the menu, I got the country fried steak and egg combo with hashbrowns, and my partner got the pancake breakfast. The gravy on my country fried steak tasted like flour and water. There was no flavor to it or the batter the steak was fried in. The hashbrowns had no flavor either. The eggs were okay, but not cooked to my liking but that's my fault for the eggs I ordered. The pancakes were bland, it didn't taste like there was any sugar in them even with the syrup. Honestly the best part of the breakfast was the country potatoes. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned with some pepper. Long story short, we likely won't return. We will just suck it up and clean the kitchen to make...

Customer Service was prompt. French Toast was decent. The Biscuits and Gravy weren't good at all. Biscuits were probably ok. But the gravy definitely could be better. I could do better with flour, water, salt, and pepper. And the potatoes came out super cold with no flavor or seasoning. Sad because my girl thought she was treating me to a good place for breakfast. Crazy cause I eat, and never ever picky. But I felt like I should of said something. Felt it was a disservice that I didn't. So that's why I'm leaving this review. Also the bathroom could use a better seal. People can see you on the toilet when they walk in. Not expected but I asked if they offer discounts to military Veterans and she said just Active Duty.
