I came here with my girlfriend recently. Tang Bar has been renovated in a few small ways that really liven up the experience.
A lot of reviews have complained about the lack of a self serve sauce area. Well, now it's real, and it's really good. Extra convenient for customers to add more flavor to their meal.
The water feature on the center table is active again, which makes the mood so much more lively. The white marble-esque finish on the tables pairs well with the pleasant green color palette throughout the store.
My girlfriend did have an error with her meal, but the service was able to rectify it by offering a new bowl free of charge.
Many people complain about the price here, and that is probably because most people are overloading their bowls without realizing it. My bowl today was only .86 pounds, for $13. And I still felt full after the meal. You just need to pace yourself with the ingredients. Anything above 1.5 pounds is enough to feed 2 people, so just be careful when serving yourself. My girlfriend's bowl was 1.04 pounds and the total cost was around $30 for both of our bowls. Not as offensive as the prices in other restaurants around Victoria Gardens.
It has been 12 hours since I ate my bowl as of writing this, and the flavor is still in my mouth. The flavors of malatang and the additional sauces makes the meal a memorable meal.
I highly recommend Tang Bar to anyone visiting...
Read moreThe food tastes good, but it's precarious. People use tongs to serve themselves ingredients, which feels like it could be a health hazard concerning cross contamination of ingredients. The bowls are expensive. It's $16 per pound but it can always sneak up on you. If you're not careful about the ingredients you put in the bowl, it can be quite expensive. Sometimes it reaches almost $40.
Most malatang places have self serve sauces, but it seems like here they're all behind the counter. Feels like it puts an odd sprain on the front of house workers.
When I got my bowl, it didn't seem like the rim of it was wiped correctly. Very untidy work. The girl who served it was rude. The server name on my receipt said "Chenjie".
As good as the atmosphere was, the water feature on the center table isn't working, which makes it feel compromised. It's clearly a passion project restaurant. But it won't do for such ridiculous prices. I don't think I will eat here again. Unfortunately this might be a failed restaurant, which is a shame because it feels like there's good potential with this place. I don't think they'll make it past the end...
Read moreFirst time here, I was greeted at the front door by a nice young lady who explained how this restaurant works. You get a large bowl and put whatever kinds of meats and vegetables you want eat. They have a large variety both meats ( seafood also), and vegetables. You can have it prepared with broth or a sauce, I had broth. It was served at the temperature of the sun, lol. I got the spiciest however for me it was not spicy enough. Now the bad parts, I bought a soda and it was cool not cold. They had an area where you could self serve water however I did not see any ice as the water was room temperature. It was a little pricey, they charge you by the pound, about 24 bucks for my bowl but I did put a lot of different meats in. The restaurant was clean and they have sidewalk seating also. They have containers so you can take your left overs home because you do get served in...
