This was our first time at this Old Chicago location. It just opened recently. From the outside, the building looks great. There's a small water feature and the outdoor seating has lots of pretty flowers. When we get in, there were 4-5 hostesses at the check-in area. We told them we have 2 people and the hostess that helped us told us to follow her. She walked to a table in the bar area and put a couple menus down at a table, then left without saying anything. We didn't know if this was our table or if she forgot something. It was just really awkward.
We sat down anyway and waited for the server. The atmosphere was pretty nice, but my wife (who is 5'6") could not reach the bar stool's foot rest. Her feet sat there dangling.
Our server was extremely nice, but our order took an absurd amount of time getting to us. We didn't show up with the main part of the dinner rush, we were there at 5pm. I think I know what happened based on the look of our food when we got it. My pizza was very fresh, but my wife's thin crust pizza and our order of buffalo wings looked like they had been sitting around for at least 20-30 minutes. It's important that thin crust pizzas are fresh because they go off quickly. What I think happened is they messed up the order on my pizza, but caught themselves before they brought it out. Instead of redoing the wings and my wife's pizza, they let the food sit there.
My server didn't come around often enough, We timed over 30 minutes from when we ordered to before we saw him again. He was moving around the dining room very quickly, but it didn't look very efficient. When I finally got a refill on my soda, the glass was dirty. I just shared the rest of my wife's drink with her.
I know this place is new and there's a lot of potential here. Every other Old Chicago I've eaten at has been very good. There's a lot of learning needed for this place to reach an acceptable level. The benefit was that our order wasn't very expensive. My pizza was extremely good. It was reasonably priced. Also, it does have a nice atmosphere. If we go back in the future, I'll make sure to...
Read moreVisited for a dinner on Saturday, the 18th of December. Got a nice booth in the bar. This would be our 4th visit to the restaurant since they opened. On a previous visit we sat at a booth close to the kitchen door. A very loud group of employees congregated at a booth close to ours that had complaints about everything at the restaurant. Made it difficult to enjoy our meal. This visit we picked a booth on the other side of the bar area. Still a large group congregating at the booth by the kitchen door that was so loud you could hear them over the rest of the people in the bar. Perhaps employees should find a place to talk about work not in the customer seating area. Service was Ok, I don't fault them for that everyone is short handed but when we received our baked spaghetti and meatball dish the spaghetti was in a giant lump all stuck together in the bottom of the dish. It looked unappetizing and I understand everything is supposed to be stuck together with cheese but this was literally a giant lump of compressed slimy noodles. I don't know how they could not notice the problem in the kitchen. I have ate at Old Chicago in many other cities and have always enjoyed the experience. When one opened here in Rapid City I was sure it was going to be our new favorite place to go. It is dropping fast on our favorites list. In this time when businesses and people are struggling financially it really is important to making an experience fun and enjoyable, not just a place to eat and drink a beer. I can do that at home for less money and not drive across town to do it. I sincerely hope they are able to fix...
Read moreAside from having a 40 minute wait for a table then a 50 minute wait for food, the food and service was okay at first. Everything was average for most of our time there, nothing out of the ordinary for us. But when the waitress completely mixed up our checks at the end of the night, one of our members cards ended up getting declined because 3 extra checks were charged on top of theirs (which was not asked for). When we brought this to the waitress’ attention, she argued with us stating that we asked for the checks to be added onto that individual’s check. When we denied this, she put her hands in the air and shrugged then said “I’m sorry.” The member was severely embarrassed and my husband and I picked up their check to take care of it all. We really are not rude customers in the slightest and we completely understand with the place being new and the employees being recently hired. But this was a huge mixup and every single one of us was handed back a check that was not ours, but had our card inside. We don’t understand how this mix up could’ve even happened. We were so confused trying to figure out payment, and she had already left our table and didn’t appear to be coming back, so we didn’t even bother fighting it anymore. If you’re reading this, save yourself the frustration and heartache and just avoid the place. They clearly need significantly more time to get things together and train their employees properly. And if you’re staff reading this, please understand how significant this issue is and do better. We were so excited to eat at this new restaurant and now most likely none of us will...
