I am writing to share a disappointing experience I had during a visit to your TJ Maxx location on May 23, 2025. My visit was around 9 + a.m., when the store was not particularly busy.
While browsing, I came across some items in the locked glass case that caught my interest. I politely asked a staff member to unlock the case so I could take a closer look. Some of the products were placed all the way at the bottomâalmost at floor level, not just a regular low shelfâwhich made it physically uncomfortable to view them properly. I might have just sat down to look through everything more comfortably if the floor is cleaner.f
I casually mentioned this to the store manager, Toni, as a friendly suggestion for improving the customer experienceânot as a complaint. Unfortunately, her response was dismissive and rude. She replied, âThis is how the corporate office wants it!â in an irritated tone, accompanied by an unpleasant facial expression. I was surprised by her reaction, as I had hoped to engage in a respectful and constructive exchange. Instead, I was left feeling unheard and uncomfortable.
I have shopped in this location for decades, I truly value respectful and professional interactionsâespecially in local retail settings. Iâm also aware of long-standing concerns among local shoppers about management issues at this location, including high turnover and reports of unfriendly behavior. In fact, both Toni and another long-time employee have occasionally come across as rude to various customers. (This has also been reflected in online reviews.)
Toniâs attitude that morning did not reflect the kind of positive customer service Iâve come to expect from TJ Maxx. Another associate, Connie, who witnessed the exchange, later acknowledged that Toni didnât respond to the suggestion well.
A store manager sets the tone for the entire team, and itâs important for that leadership to lead by example. Toniâs attitude gave the impression that she doesn't enjoy her job, which unfortunately affects the customer experience. In contrast, some of the newer employees are friendly and courteous, which is greatly appreciated. Cindy (worked for many years), in particular, has always been professional. However, othersâlike Deb in the jewelry departmentâare also known for showing signs of dissatisfaction and poor attitude.
I hope this message reaches prompts a review of staff training and leadership practices at this location. Customers arenât asking for muchâjust basic respect and a welcoming...
Read moreI like shopping here with my wife. Good deals but every time we go to the dressing rooms we know we will have to deal with a miserable worker. Today that worker was Charlotte. We did our best to accommodate her as she requested me to come out of the dressing room to count my items since she wasnât present when I entered. Then I walked over to the womenâs side to tell my wife to come out in of her dressing room so I can see her. The worker proceeded to tell me I canât go on that side. I asked how am I supposed to give her feedback on her outfits and she said she has to come to the dressing room lobby each time. Then I went back into my dressing room and she started gossiping to another shopper about me which is what prompted this review. If the savings are worth the bad customer service this place isnât the worst for you but if you donât like to put up with rudeness projected at you unwarranted avoid this place.
Update: this was a two star review but then I said âexcuse me maâamâ to the store manager and she turned around and looked at me as she was walking past me. Made and held eye contact for two seconds. The walked away. So to conclude they have good products for discount prices but the customer service here is extremely negative, dismissive, and...
Read moreStaff is friendly and nice. They usually have a good selection, I wish it could be a little bit bigger. The store is usually clean and things are easy to find. I do wish that sometimes they wouldnât hassle you so much about opening up a TJ Max credit card, I hate having to say ânoâ multiple times per transaction, if I get a pushy cashier. No means no, the first time. Most are good about letting it go the first time if you say no, but Iâve had a few that were pretty pushy a few times which is uncomfortable and slightly irritating. I donât have to explain myself to a cashier why I donât want to open a credit card with TJ Maxx to save 20 dollars, and yes Iâm sure. Other than that the staff is always great and I like...
