I have been a road warrior for decades and have always counted on being able to get great service and even better food at Texas Roadhouses. Well, there's a first time for everything.
Leaving Sioux Falls for Rapid City, we all were hungry for a great steak. We watched the wait times on the app. Half hour before Rapid City is was down to 10-20 minutes so we got on the wait list and it immediately changed to 20-30.
When we arrived we found we were not on the list. We should have taken it as an omen. They told us wait was 30 minutes, but they would get us in as quickly as possible, which turned out to be 45 minutes.
We were seated and given a basket of half sized buns...am guessing they were not given adequate time to rise before baking.
Salads arrived, mine without the blue cheese dressing. We flagged our server and she returned with ranch dressing, telling me they were out of blue cheese....maybe I would have liked a choice.
Seemingly forever later our meals arrived. Checking my wife and I found our steaks ordered as well, were at best medium rare. So we sent them back.
I had ordered mushrooms as one of my sides, so ended up eating them by themselves before they were cold. My wife had mashed potatoes as a side and they were all lumpy.
It took a good 15 minutes to get our steaks cooked to well done. My wife's was ordered with the onions and mushrooms on the side. First time delivered they weren't there at all. Second time they were on her steak.
By this time, the other member of our party was long done eating and we were totally fed up with the situation and told them we didn't want our food, please bring us our check.
Our server then evaporated...10 minutes goes by, so we went to the front desk and asked to speak with a manager.
Meanwhile our server did come and apologized saying she had done everything she could.
The manager did give us what we ate at no charge. She explained they had lots of new help, which to me is no excuse. As a manager, the buck stops with you and if it can't be done right, it shouldn't be done at all.
In summary, this was several hours of our lives we will never get back as they were totally wasted here.
Not that we get to or through Rapid City often, but if we do, Texas Roadhouse will not...
Read moreWe had the worst server - Brianna. She was probably mad that she had a 10 top. If she had just given us a second before judging, she would have found that we are a great group of high tippers who keep the table clean and try to be easygoing. Last time we were in town, my dad tipped the server 200%. Yes, you read that right. 200%. We all know how hard the service industry can be, and a big table can be a big pain. We try to make it worthwhile and a less difficult experience. But Brianna chose to be terrible. She made the decision to get a bad review. She made the choice to treat us poorly. She assigned a value to us. She went out of her way to make it a bad dinner. For example, she shoved her hand over the table and said, "Plate." Handed me a box while I was eating my meal. Interrupted me to ask if I knew how to use the kiosk to pay - we were not finished eating! It's was ridiculous how bad she was. All we could do was shake our heads in confusion and disgust. I assume she is just woefully incompetent and will soon move on to an easier job.
We had planned a full birthday dinner. Drinks, apps, meals, and dessert. I can't be mad since her rotten service probably saved me a lot of cash. The food was ok, I think. It was impossible to enjoy since we fell victim to her burn and turn. We left without dessert - she didn't offer even after we said we were celebrating a birthday. Upsell opportunity lost. I won't go back. I'll spend at a place that appreciates good customers. I won't recommend this place. Next time I am in this town, I'll find a different steak house. The service can't be worse than this. Lol For comparison, we were in town for 5 days and ate at restaurants all 5 days. We had all kinds of service and food, but this was the worst. I tip 20% when the service is mediocre and well above that for excellent service. Even if there are issues but they try to make it right, I tip well. It's not a flex it's appreciation. That's my choice. This will stand out and be the story I tell about our trip to Rapid City. Visit the beautiful Black Hills but avoid Texas...
Read moreOur family has been celebrating every birthday at Texas Roadhouse locations across the country for MANY years. This is a family tradition and we always enjoy it until now.
We were sat in the back by the restroom and had a server who may as well have been an auctioneer! This guy blew through menu items and it was hard to keep up. I’ll give him credit because he upsells EVERYTHING but nothing is mentioned about all the extra cost until the bill hits. Things like asking a 16 year old if she wanted mushrooms on her steak. Nothing about cost but that almost $3 up charge sure hits the check!!!
We also let him know about the birthday and before our appetizer even arrived he was already there with the saddle rushing through the birthday “chore” as it seemed for my 14 year old son. We’ve never had this happen until after our meals so we could do cake, ice cream, etc. This guy said he does it first so “you don’t have to wait and can leave when you’re finished eating!” That comment sounded like he wanted us out and fast!!
Once the food arrived he never checked back for quite a while. We had to get the manager to replace my son’s apple sauce because it had shredded cheese in it! We then had to grab another server to get ours because no spoon was sent with my daughter’s apple sauce. When he brought this out he was negatively talking about the other server for not asking what we needed instead of him having to come out.
We always enjoy the restaurants but this one failed us on...
