When we visit Rapid City, we ALWAYS try and stay here. The staff has always been friendly and the rooms comfortable for a great price.
Upon entering I was immediately greeted with something that smelt like grandma baking a pie in the kitchen. As they had just filled the pool with new clean clorinated water due to re-tiling, im uncertain if it always smells this lovely or it was just to cover up any chlorine/off putting smells. That being said, some may find this scent too strong just to warn you if you are sensitive to smells.
On tonights visit we were able to secure a double king on the top 4th floor. I asked the front desk for a 1st floor so the little feet of my apparent 300 lb children (thats what they sound like to the floor below in most places) wouldnt disturb other guest, but they reassured me the floors were solid and never have a problem with that. As my kids ran around I am inclined to believe them!
The rooms look newly renovated with charging ports on both side of the beds and plenty of outlets throughout the room. Extra large smart TVs with limited channels but with easy access to Youtube and you can enter your own account information to access Netflix etc. If so desired with an easy "clear personal information" button. Bathrooms were clean and also newly updated with a large glass enclosed shower. I personally loved the waterfall style shower head these had. The beds themselves were very comfortable and the sheets although they offered a coolness, I noticed yall will have to replace them often as the first thing I noticed was micro snags in them. I dont know what kind of fabric the new sheets are but they are going to wear quickly.
The pool as I said had just been filled with new water so it was still cold, but we tried enjoying it anyway. With the slide running and lots of kids in the pool it created a "downdraft" and I had a hard time keeping myself and 3 year old near the shallower end. Parents with little ones learning how to swim should keep this in mind. Even my older kids were having a hard time with it and chose to stick close to the walls. The 2 hot tubs were nice to relax in.
Breakfast was ok. Short from 7-9am. We showed up around 8. The employees were delightful and hard at work but for the little amount of people that were in the dining room eating it was not well stocked. Liquid scrambled eggs, pre-packaged hard boiled eggs, biscuits (not stocked), hot oatmeal in a canister, and some in packets with the cereal. Bananas and apples... Only a few slices of bread and muffins. No fridge with yogurt etc that I could see. Milk was poured into pitchers that were also empty/running low. I love this hotel so much, I really hope they step up there breakfast game soon!
The attached Mexican restraunt is more high end then I expected. I believe this has changed hands a couple times since we've been stopping. Although it was good, expect $10-$20/person easy for dinner.
All in all, we've stayed at maybe 5 hotels in the area and always come back to this one. Highly recommend you...
Read moreNo one was at the desk when we arrived. There was a sign on the desk that stated "BE RIGHT BACK" so we waited several minutes and at some point saw a motion or noise in the office to the rear of the desk which seemed to indicate that someone might be there. About then I noticed a button on the bottom and back of the desk sign which seemed like it might be a call button. I turned the sign around and the sign on that side stated something like push button to call someone. I pushed the button and sure enough someone was in the office right behind the desk. The person came out to assist us. I presented my driver's license and credit card and she processed our arrival to assign us a room. She then asked me to sign for the charges to my credit card. The amount shown was I believe $27.15 which seemed like an odd amount since we had reserved the room with points so there should not have been any charges for the room. My previous stay the night before in a different Choice Privileges Hotel I had paid a $50.00 refundable deposit so I was expecting a rounded amount not the $27.15. I then asked what the $27.15 was for since I had prepaid for the room in full with points. The clerk then realized something was not right and corrected the charges so nothing was due. We got our room key and realized it appeared to be second floor room. I asked why we had not been assigned a first floor room because we had asked for a first floor due to my spouses knee surgery. The clerk said there were no first floor rooms left. I realized this could happen so I asked if my message request had been received for a first floor room. The clerk looked it up and said yes, the message was received but "there was nothing the hotel could do about it". This seemed odd since it would seem a waste of my time to make the most basic request which the hotel would be unable to do anything about. What would be the point? We got to our room and the room was very nice, clean and comfortable but we were surprised at the size of the bed. We reserved a QUEEN but the bed appeared to be much smaller, perhaps a double. We were comfortable and had a good nights sleep. In the morning, we went to the breakfast offer. The breakfast was quite disappointing. There was no juice, no fruit (normally oranges, apples, bananas), no yogurt, no danish or other pastries, just some tiny muffins, bagels, and bread. It looked like we could probably make a waffle. There was coffee. We would normally have grabbed a pastry, piece of fruit and juice. None of that was available so we just got coffee and left. The room was great. The rest,...
Read moreWe stayed here recently. Most of the staff were exceptional, but one of the housekeeping staff, with short hair on 2nd floor had a bit of an attitude. I asked her where I should put my towels, she ignored me, so I placed them on the floor outside the room. I had to ask several times to get more towels before they gave me any. I asked about a quick traffic area vacuum before going to run errands. She said they were not allowed to go into the room with folks present. I mentioned this to the evening desk clerk, as I had to retrieve more of my own supplies, shampoo, trash bags etc. The guy at the desk was nice, but he did say they have to put you on the daily list if you want supplies or room service daily. I also mentioned the poor attitude the housekeeping individual had & that she said she could not vacuum with guests present & that we would have to leave the room. The reason we wanted to be there was we did not want to leave our cat unattended while staff was in the room, as to not cause our pet undue stress. At any rate, a female desk clerk with long brown hair overheard me & informed me that housekeeping was not to go in & clean any of the rooms until folks were out of the room for at least 30 min., due to Covid. I said well that’s strange as they aren’t wearing masks & pass several guests in the hallways. She informed me that due to state regulations they did not have to wear masks, but due to Radisson policy they are NOT to enter a room until the guests have been out for at least 30 minutes. She stated that is a strict policy they always go by. Sorry, that is either incorrect or they are not going by policy, as my husband said he visually saw housekeeping on several occasions enter rooms to clean directly after someone left or checked out, not even waiting 2 minutes. Also, their note on the door under rules & regulations says “Kindly report any inattention on the part of any employee to the management.” (Again, that is listed under their rules & regulations.) It does seem as though a few of the housecleaning staff do not care to do any vacuuming, not only did they refuse to do our room, (which we were there 3 days), but upon first checking into the room, you could tell it was poorly vacuumed as we found dust was apparent around the floorboards of the carpet & a few pop bottle caps were left behind, from a...
