I'll start with the good: The service was fast & friendly, and there was a decent beverage selection.
Now the not-so-good: for reference- I had a toasted everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese, my mom had an untoasted pumpernickel bagel with scallion cream cheese. Whatever cream cheese they use is absolutely VILE. I don't know how else to describe it other than gritty. It was reminiscent of low-fat greek yogurt. Really thick, gritty, and left your mouth dry with some sort of weird film in it. I honestly thought maybe there was something going on with me because I have never experienced anything like that before. I chalked it up to the veggie cream cheese being a weird batch, maybe there was something wrong with the vegetables' textures. I said nothing and gave my mom her bagel to see if I was crazy or if there was actually something weird going on. A few bites in my mom sighs and goes "I don't know what it is but I just do not like this at all". I mentioned my weird cream cheese and she realized that's what was gross about her bagel too.
I'm not saying don't get a bagel here, but I am saying stay as far away from the cream cheese as possible, unless gritty, dry, filmy cream cheese is your thing, in which case...
Read moreMy friends recommended this place. I’ve been here twice and purchased 4 dozen bagels. The bagels are good enough, not great.
The service is well below average. I walk up to the counter, the staff doesn’t stop their personal conversations. So you wait. The staff doesn’t say “Good morning, how can I help you?” They just stand there with a blank, low energy stare. When they finally acknowledge you, and you say “a dozen egg bagels,” they act incredulously like they’ve never heard anyone order a dozen bagels. Eventually you get your order.
Then, and this is the part that cost them my business, their pathetic signage. They have one white sign (3” x 11”) talking about their 3.5% credit card charge. The problem is it’s a white sign on a white cash register. There’s also the up charge on egg dishes. Rather than putting it on the menu screens where you’re sure to see it, they hide it where you won’t see it (in front of a scale.)
Don’t get me wrong. The charges are fine but they need to clearly communicate their policies. Because they don’t, I...
Read moreEasily the best bagel place in Flemington. The problem I encounter, however, is that the staff messes up orders almost every time I go. My wife and I like to order something called a "Scrambled Bagel." It is an amazing breakfast sandwich where they hollow out a bagel, mix the insides with scrambled eggs, and layer it all back in the bagel. It is clearly listed under the "Omelets" section of their menu. Each time we order this, it is a process. No one knows what it is. They hand the phone to other colleagues. They don't know. Sometimes they claim they know and we get Scrambled eggs on a bagel, sometimes a fried egg on a bagel. It is incredibly frustrating. And that is just with this sandwich. There have been other, more obvious mistakes, such as incorrect quantities of normal bagels, lost phone orders, and charging too much or too little. Service is holding back this place from...
