Great food, incredibly GREAT service from the waitstaff (dispite the freezing cold weather) and the BEST rootbeer in the world!

Seriously, I can't say enough about the staff... NOTE: This is a 'car-hop' where the waitresses are taking and running food orders TO YOUR CAR...!!!

AND not only are they dealing with all of the work that entails like- the ridiculous request coming from the indecisive complaining mother of 5 who has all the kids screaming out their difficult orders, the snapping rude solitary soldier who thinks HIS burger is the ONLY ONE this poor saint should be thinking about and 3 young guys who made ot very obvious tey would rather get her 'digits' than give her their food order.... BUT these girls have to deal with the "below-freezing" temperatures that come with February in Northeast Ohio, icy patches unser their feet and cherry res noses yet they do it ALL with A SINCERE SMILE and a GREAT ATTITUDE!!! I'm SHOCKED at what I observed!!!

Everytime I'm in Kent, OH- I seek out one of the nostalgic A&W Restaurants. After all their burgers are INCREDIBLE and the ROOTBEER alone has seriously had me making this routine stop when my business calls me to this remote college town in the Ohio hills... But it feels like for the first time I opened my eyes (and perhaps it's because of the weather OR all the drama that unfolded in front of me) but for the first time I looked up to see just how patient, calm mannered, polite and professional the 2 young ladies serving this circus were!!!

I'm shocked and honestly a lil embarrassed that I added the typical $2 tip to the bill after really taking in how graceful these girls handled the less than sane situation s happening around them... So if i say nothing else, I would like to end with this- Go...GO.... GO get yourself a burger, fries, shake or the BEST rootbeer float on the planet.... but DO take minute or two to recognize who took the time to prepare and serve it with an otherwise un noticed smile and a request to "come back again soon" and maybe the next time surprise her (as she will surprise you) with a smiling Jackson ($20) and acknowledge the GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE YOU GET EACH TIME YOU STOP IN FOR THAT GREAT TASTE YA CRAVE EVERYTIME YA...

Very disappointed. Drove 30 minutes to take the kids to a old school type carhop rootbeer stand. First girl comes right up n I tell her we've never been here n need a few minutes. She placed a #8 on the windshield and said turn your lights on when you're ready to order- someone will be right out. We all look over the menu and decide what we're getting- meanwhile an older lady gets out of her little Prius yelling how she's waited since 800 for an order of only 3 coney dogs and she's watched at least 3 cars come in n go with their orders as she sat still waiting.... by this time I already have my lights on waiting for one of the girls to come back to get our order. A couple girls are milling around here n there waiting on cars- none of which were acknowledging our lights. I can see into the building n see a couple more girls kinda just standing around waiting for something to do n yet still no one comes to our car. I double check my lights- sure enough, they're on- I see the reflection across on another vehicle. Another car pulls in directly across from me a girl comes running right out n talks to the guy he shuts out his lights n she walks directly away from him in our direction - surely she's going to see our lights n acknowledge us.... nope. She runs into the building n right back out to give the guy who just pulled in his order then turns again right in our direction and still ignores our headlights that at this point also have the brights turned on. Still nothing. Well over 10 minutes we sat there waiting with our headlights on to no avail; we decided to...

Wow, just wow. I've been a regular A&W Customer for many years now. That being said, this year takes the cake, for the worst I can remember. I don't know what has gotten into the staff here. After multiple visits over the past few weeks not having had one pleasent visit, it's safe to say this place is heading downhill. The carhops seem more interested in what's on their phones than the customers outside. Multiple cars have pulled in and left because they were not waited on. When they do get out to your car, not once has my order came out correct. Although when you send it back to get corrected, it takes 2x as long to get your original food. I counted today, it took 8 minutes to get one (1) medium root beer, it was 8:30p and there were no other cars in the lot. To cap off the carhops, we pay our waitress, and right in my face she pulls out a wad of cash, puts her tip in, and then walks away. Plus the manager, (I think), is walking and working around food and drink with her hair down. No band, net, clips or anything, I'm pretty sure that's some kind of violation. Sad to see such a great place...
