So tonight i gave it another shot . My family and i have gotten delicious meals from ming chu for YEARS . I ordered shrimp with snow peas , it always came with a delicious clear sauce . Today it is drowning in a dark brown gravy . It also has vegetables , never , ever have i gotten vegetables mixed in it . It is TERRIBLE . Okay , hot and sour soup here has always been such a beautiful , clean soup with just the right flavor . Now , there are NO peas , and TONS of carrots and although i love tofu , this is OVER-WHELMED with it . It has so many hot peppers in it that i cant even eat it .
The other dishes are just as bad .
There is no news about them changing owners , but everyone ive always known there is gone , and the food is NOTHING like it has been for all these years .
We wont be ordering here again . Sad , since this has been our 'place' since it first opened . I ordered a pint of hot and sour soup . This is the best hot and sour soup around , usually . I believe it is under different ownership now . The soul has a perfect blend of hot and sour , BUT , there are hardly ANY VEGETABLES IN IT ! No bok-choy , no water chestnuts , only lots of carrots and mushrooms . And way too much broth . Please , PUT THE GREENS IN IT !!! I was so...
Read moreThis has been our local Chinese go-to for almost 4 decades so I can definitely tell that the ownership has changed hands and it has had nothing but a detrimental effect on the quality of the food. Firstly, we did not receive 2 of the items ordered and paid for and when we tried to call the phone just rang endlessly. Second, the pork in the pork fried rice is now a low-quality, reconstituted meat product instead of the real pork pieces it use to be. Also the pork fried rice smells fishy, a sure sign it was cooked in the same oil as shrimp, so if you have a serve allergy to shellfish, be aware. The same rice also had zero vegetables so basically just rice and the poor quality pork fried in fishy oil. The steamed dumplings are smaller and the meat is less flavorful as well as the dough much thinner. They do not have the chewy bite you want in a good dumplings. They also no longer give you free pops with every $10 purchase and the prices for many things went up SIGNIFICANTLY($3!) while the quality went down. Sadly this place no longer has the same quality or customer service, so after 40 years of frequenting we will be looking for a different...
Read moreI like my Chinese carry-out. A lot. Doubly so if it tastes like its components, and not just that sort of generic "tastes like Chinese carry out" flavor. Those who have had a wide variety of quick American Chinese will know what I mean here: bland noodles, cloyingly sweet sauces, bland fattiness, and soy sauce.
They don't rock that kind of bad here. I dare say they don't rock any kind of bad here, aside from bad-a××.
Garlic chicken? Wonderful. Beef Lo Mein? Excellent. Crab Rangoon? More depth than I've come to expect from most places, and the onion is a very nice add to the filling. Hot and sour soup? Mistakenly ordered a quart, instead of a pint (it was a long day...), wish I had ordered 2. Not blow your mouth out hot, but has nice big chunks of veg and fungus, and a rich, thick broth.
Excellent food, great service, and exceedingly good prices. If you want good Chinese in the Ravenna/Kent area,...
