The only thing wrong with Luigi's Pizza and Pasta is that it is 3 hours from where I live!
Outstanding service here by a 'well-oiled' team, churning out delicious spaghetti and meatballs/fettucini alfredo with chicken. They know how to make a proper meatball here - one you can cut with a fork. Italian restaurants here in Oregon think a meatball should be so dense you can barely cut it with a steak knife! Awful. Mix in some bread soaked in milk or at least some breadcrumbs to make a much better meatball.
The "meat sauce" with the 2 meatballs and spaghetti order (under $10 with a generous 10% senior discount) was so laden with meat, it was almost too meaty for me. Next time I had the marinara with meatballs, which seemed a little bit lighter.
The portions here were also substantial. A lot of places serving pasta you end up eating 4 fork-fulls of twirled pasta and then run out of pasta with a cup of sauce left...I never understood why some restaurants do this, when the pasta is the least expensive part of the meal. Luigi's got the proportions right and the sauce is clearly slow-cooked and was delicious.
Luigi's is easy access right off the highway - literally a hundred yards from I-5. Parking is ample, but a bit awkward as the space is kind of limited. But 2 entrances ease that up. Oddly, the first time I came here, I drove right past the inconspicuous building and right into the supermarket parking lot beyond, so keep an eye out for it very close to the intersection.
Ambiance here was a bit meh, think high school football team family gathering type place with small arcade off to the side, rather than white table cloths and silverware, but not an issue at all.
They also had the biggest pizza I have ever seen. Picture one employee holding the door open for 2 customers to carry out the enormous pizza in the box and it barely fit through the door. While I didn't try the pizza, it seemed very popular among the other patrons.
Go here. You won't be...
Read moreMy husband and I, along with my grandson and daughter, who were visiting from Arizona went to Luigi's on July 9, 2024. We were very excited to eat, as Luigi's was our favorite place to eat in Red Bluff. However, the food is NOT THE SAME as it was the last time we ate here. We ordered a pastrami sandwich, toasted, a salad, meatball sub, a small mushroom/pineapple pizza, and a small pepperoni pizza. Usually we love everything here! However, pastrami sandwich had not that much meat on it. When it used to be packed with meat! The meatball sub was sliced meatballs, (they used to come as whole meatballs), they surely did not taste like beef. They tasted like they were made out of turkey and cereal filler. There was barely any sauce and cheese on it. And I mean BARELY any sauce! The pizzas were just okay, it seems like they are using different cheese. It's not the same stretch consistancey or taste.😔 I also believe the crust is a different recipe! We are from Chico and you just can't get a good taste and quality of these foods, so Luigi's was our go to! Well not anymore. Wish the food didn't change here! They had a winner with the way their food used to be! Now we are in search of a new pizza/sandwich/salad place! Not to mention, why did Luigi's get rid of pasta dishes? My daughter when she visits likes the baked ziti, and it's not served here any more!! Really sad. Did Luigi's change owners...
Read moreMy Family have been patrons of Luigi's since 1986 when they were still out on Walnut! We always LOVED Luigi's & Family members visiting ALWAYS had to eat there! However, since they SOLD OUT, everything has changed! Ordered Mushroom & half Pepperoni to be delivered! First, NO cheese or pepper packets included! Also, the "old" Luigi's usually sent napkins & paper plates as well! Nothing! Next, let's eat! HA! Pizza not cooked thoroughly & doughy! Yuck! Called & "complained" which was a JOKE! Woman I spoke w/made it sound like I was a whiner, etc! Really? Called back next day to try to explain how their poor business practices was gonna basically "be the ruin" of Luigi's, a Red Bluff landmark! Here's what I was told! Cheese & peppers carried by Delivery drivers! And I knew this how? They don't just GIVE YOU cheese, peppers, napkins, etc, why? Because they're afraid they WON'T BE USED & JUST A WASTE OF THE RESTAURANT'S MONEY!!! WTF? When I brought up the raw, doughy crust, was told that since it was mushroom, excess liquid, etc, then next time maybe I should tell them to COOK IT LONGER! In other words, tell the pizza parlor HOW TO COOK PIZZA!!! REALLY??? They did offer to remake @ another time but I'm DONE & surely don't need someone spitting in my food! Done...
