I went here for a date night with my partner since it had been awhile since either of us had a proper meal out.
We were seated by the manager at a small table- a booth would have been preferred, but obviously it was busy, so I can't complain. We each got a steak and I had a couple of drinks- one alcoholic and one non. The first was a berry margarita on ice, the other was a wildberry lavender lemonade and I have to admit, it was easily the best drink I've ever had with lavender in it! A nice prominent note that wasn't too overpowering, which can be easy to do, given how aromatic lavender is.
We split an appetizer of the western wings - the meat quality was good and so was the sauce (BBQ), but the skin or fry had me comparing it to frozen wings.
Unsurprisingly, the steaks were the star of the show! They came out cooked exactly as we requested and seasoned beautifully- as any proper steak should be. I ordered the porterhouse and my partner the sirloin. Each plate came with unlimited house salad (which the honey mustard was great! The ranch seemed like it had a bit too much buttermilk, but has the benefit of using peppercorn). We were also given sourdough bread as part of the meal, which was good, but nothing compared to a proper sourdough. The fries seemed like they could've been tossed in the fryer for another minute or two for a nicer crisp. That, or they were done too soon before the steak and were left to sit for a little bit- nothing super detrimental, but if you're on the fence between fries or the other options of baked or mashed potatoes, I would advise springing for one of the latter.
We finished our meal by sharing their giant slice of NY cheesecake, which we both found deliciously creamy and not overbaked.
My one and ONLY gripe, was that last time I was there (a couple years prior), I believe they had stuffed mushrooms on the menu that I thought were delicious, but evidently didn't sell well enough to remain on the menu.
Overall, I was very satisfied with my experience, given that this is a "cheaper" steakhouse.
9/10 - would recommend to anyone who's looking for a place to...
Read moreI remember when this place used to be soooooo good! There has definitely been a decline in service and food quality over the past 2 years, and after this last experience I'll never be back. We went on a Saturday night and immediately noticed there weren't as many people as usual which was weird. We were seated at a very uncomfortable table in a back room. We ordered the dinner for 2. Both steaks were cooked wrong. We wanted well done and one was well done barely and one was rare. We sent it back and I ate while we waited for my boyfriends steak to take 10 minutes to finish being cooked. No apology from the waitress. Also, our food was served on tiny plates, not the big dinner plates they used to use so food kept falling on the table. They also gave us frozen butter, and bread that looked like a truck ran over it before it was served to us. Our appetizer plates didn't get picked up, and were left on our tiny table for us to work around while trying to eat. My drink was never refilled or inquired about. The dinner for 2 is supposed to come with a desert but we were never offered a desert and then the check came. I reminded the waitress it came with a dessert and she looked surprised and then took our check back and said she would get the desert. She then returned with a more expensive check with the desert added, but still no desert 20 minutes later. We left the cash for everything but the desert on the table and just left. We will NEVER be back! So sad because I used to love this place 😢 I'll be looking for a new...
Read moreAs long-time customers, we've always considered Cattlemen's our go-to spot, especially when hosting out-of-town guests. Unfortunately, after our recent experience, we won't be returning anytime soon.
On our previous visit, my wife ordered the herb chicken dinner but only ate the chicken, as she can't each much as a result of a medical issue. A staff member at that time suggested that next time she could simply order a chicken breast without the sides. So, during this visit, she requested exactly that--a single chicken breast.
I ordered the prime rib, asked for it medium, and it came out very rare. I chose not to send it back, as I generally don't like to make a fuss. When we received the bill, we noticed we had been charged the full dinner price ($25.99) for just the chicken breast. When we asked the server about it, she quickly became defensive and said she had asked the kitchen manager, who insisted on charging the full meal price.
We explained that we would have appreciated being told up front, at the time of ordering, that there would be no price adjustment, rather than being surprised by it on the bill. It felt dismissive and disappointing, especially from a place we've supported for so long.
Cattlemen's used to be a place we looked forward to visiting. Sadly, the service and communication on this visit left us feeling...
