So this is my second time at Black Bear diner in Redding. The first time was a few weeks again had the fish and chips and hot chocolate for dinner and a Bear claw to-go. It was so much food and I was so happy with eveything. Tonight was a little bit different. The waiter was great (James) had hit chocolate within a few minutes I ordered the pot roast, because who has time to make pot roast and I was really looking forward to a big serving. I had the soup (chicken noodle) which was good and a huge corn bread muffin which was awesome. The pot roast I ordered with bacon green beans and sweet potatoes fries. The bacon beans were just ok The sweet potato fries were awesome The pot roast is where it all went wrong. The carrots were hard so had I couldn't use a fork to pick them up. And the pot roast was cold in the middle. Now, I will take it home and eat it after I hear it up more but not quite the level I was expecting since my first time was so great. I'll try something else in a few weeks and do another review. I read the placement says they (PR TEAM ) always reads the reviews I hope you guys can work out the issue with this dish be cause the flavor is great.

I travel for work and because of that I have to eat out a lot. So I try my best to find places that are worthwhile. And let me tell you, Black Bear Diner is worthwhile. Although, it was a slow start getting seated and having my order taken. I wasnt too upset about my waiter, Chuck, taking his time to get back to me because it seemed he was taking on many large tables and handling customers seated at the bar too. It was obvious that Chuck was doing his absolute best and he was all go and no stop. I did not see the man take a break, NOT ONCE! I arrived a little after 5pm and as soon as I got seated the croweds rolled in. So plan on a small wait if you get here a little later. They have to clear tables. That's how busy this place is. The food is wonderful. I'm not a pancake person, per se. And I took a chance on ordering the Mini Volcano (which by the way is still an immense amount of food) and I was beyond impressed by the pancakes. They were soft and sweet, I can't describe the flavor (buttermilk??) But they were so good!! I wish I had room for desserts! I'm actually planning on bringing my co-worker here when she gets into town! I will be back!

Went to this location for dinner while we're in town, we were seated promptly and asked for drinks. The host brought us drinks and told us our server would be over soon. We needed a little time to check out the menu, our waitress came over and introduced herself to us. She was very friendly and polite. The restaurant wasn't too full when we arrived but quite a few more tables were filled while we were there. The restaurant wasnt too loud, we could have a conversation. The restaurant was decorated in many bear themed items. They had a small gift shop near the register. Some of the staff were kind of hanging around betting on who would order what etc. and werent paying attention to the chefs. The cooks had to have the host take items to the tables because of this. Our server was pretty on top of things, got our food out quickly and got our order correctly and checked on us often. Drink refills were a bit behind but she had quite a few tables and it was understandable. Overall it was a decent meal for a decent price.

So We are known as Bunny and Bear in South Lake Tahoe and Big Fans of Black Bear Diner. When living in Napa California we were dining in two to three times a week at the one on Soscol Ave. *Dinner after a long day of being busy and awhile of not eating at Black Bear Diner. Before moving to South Lake Tahoe, we were in San Jose, Milpitas and Napa California. Eating at them frequently. Now it seems it is usually on the times we are in Redding California. *So the evening of 11.23.24 we visited the Redding location. We had the pleasure of having Hannah as our server. Supremely Friendly and helpful with our order. Making a few adjustments and changes helping for all we were hoping for and craving for. Hannah was a Joy to talk with and never rushing away. Sharing a few moments and very personable in what time we had with her. Made for a pleasurable experience and decided we would come back for Breakfast the next morning before driving back to South Lake Tahoe California. *Morning of 11.24.24 We returned for our Breakfast Meal before heading out. Somewhere around 10:30 am time. When we came we had just a slight wait before being seated. Received our menus when we were seated and had a little time to gaze through all our options, which was great. Our Server Cynthia and it seemed with all the staff had now caught up and offered us Coffee to start with. Cynthia made it so easy with making small little changes but very appreciated it making our meal our own. Plus how busy the Sunday Morning Dining time can be very hectic Cynthia never rushed us helped out on a couple more items in for Honey, more coffee was nice never acting rushed or in a hurry to move on. We wanted to say another awesome dining experience and Black Bear Diner!!! Thank You Hannah & Cynthia for last two days in Redding! We know you have a Black Bear in Carson Nevada and have eaten there a handful times. Just not the same atmosphere. Wanted to let you know a Denny’s at the corner of Al Tahoe and Hwy 50 has closed and we are in the need of a good diner for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Times!!! JUST SAYING Bear...

Since management was so kind and receptive about my negative feedback, I came back to give them the 5 stars they derserve. Great service, thank you for listening! I was pretty offended last time I came here.. i was in town running errands so I stopped for bfast alone. I got up to pay and some girl came after me aggressively, under the assumption that I wasn't going to pay for my breakfast. She apologized when she saw I had my ticket in my hand but still... not cool! Just some feedback to management maybe ease up on the staff about this so they're not so paranoid and offending legitimate customers. I had planned to buy more stuff at the counter but I changed my mind after that experience and I dont intend to ever revisit this Blackbear again. I'll be going elsewhere in Redding for bfast, moving forward. Surely this establishment won't be be bankrupted from people dining n dashing, But pissing off customers is a great way to lose business.

This breakfast is so on point at this chain. And its all day with them. The biscuits are AMAZING! The eggs are always perfectly cooked. The hashbrowns are crispy but not burnt. I always buy a couple bottles of their Mama Burn hot sauce for my bfast eggs at home. Redding has a lots of homeless tweekers wondering around. The staff went out and chased one out of their parking lot. He wasn't causing harm, he was clearly mentally disabled, but Im glad they were on top of that bcuz my Mom had walked to the car by herself while I used the bathroom. I prefer to not sit by a window here bcuz its just unpleasant to see them wondering around. This is just how it is in Redding. Lots of tweekers and red light cameras, but no police presence anywhere! I haven't found a bfast place that I like better than Blackbear.

This is long overdue but I am finally getting to it. As mother-of-the-bride for our daughter's wedding in Redding, CA, especially as we were from another state, it was quite a challenge to attend to all the details & facets of planning for this very important occasion. In my search for a venue for the rehersal dinner I was both delighted & relieved to find that Black Bear Diner would be available to accomodate such an event & found Quintin, one of the managers, to be so hospitable, engaging & a joy to work with! He put me at ease right away with the assurance that they would give their best attention, as this was something he had been hoping to develop more & facilitate in the future. We were the first party to engage their facility for this type of use. The other manager & serving staff were excellent on Friday night, November 15th, 2024 attending to all our guests & extended family. We ordered from the menu a pre-set dinner which, though a bit delayed, was truly delicious & worth the wait. The servers were wonderfully attentive in getting everyone their drinks, (& refils), as we waited, & then continuing to replenish & keep the food hot as needed. The space was cozy, warm & welcoming which meant I did not need to do any special decor. They allowed me to set up a small table with a welcome sign announcing the bridal couple. I am happy to give a thumbs up & kudos to Black Bear Diner & staff for helping to make a memorable evening even...
