This place was horrible. Many years ago it was called “For the love of Pie”. I went to the location up by Raley’s on Lake Blvd. I’m a pie baker mysellf and was extremely disappointed to find out that my overpriced small pie tasted like old lard. Also, had a poor customer service experience in the past.
BIG BUT… the owner has definitely stepped her game up. She is in a new location, large and beautiful. Very relaxing venue to hang out in. She has hooked up with Nathan’s bread business (homade delicious sourdough) and together they have been renamed When Pie Meets Bread. They have an incredible selection of delicious and beautiful, locally and freshly made baked goods, breads, soups, jams… so much! The pie tastes AMAZING now… and trust me I have tried many kinds to make sure before I post this review. Got a bread bowl today and a piece of apple pie. My son said, “Best day ever! This is so yummy!”
I have to say the service was definitively much better as well. Very friendly today.
I really appreciate growth in a business. We need our local owners to not give up quickly. This is definitely the best bread and pie in the north state now.
Edit: I have to change my review today. Too many bad service encounters at this place. I went to enjoy the still terrific food and was accompanied by my 1 year old. He was cranky and squirming- I hadn’t eaten all day and was exhausted but trying to contain and calm him to respect the environment. With both hands full I asked the young girl employee if she could bring the soup I ordered to my table when it was ready. She stared at me shocked and then after a long awkward pause accepted the request. When she and another employee brought the soup to my table, I was greeted with a long lecture on how they weren’t paid to do things like this and that they were making a one time exception because no one else was in the store (Wednesday April 10th afternoon). They went on to say I should not expect this in the future and that they don’t like doing things like this because customers will expect it and their boss won’t allow it. Really? I’d love to hear that from the owner. You won’t serve a mother with her hands full the food she bought at your business? I bit my tongue and sweetly agreed, avoiding confrontation. However, they did not bring silverware! I politely asked for silverware and the curly hair staff member pointed across the room at the silverware stand as if to conclude her no service point and say “get it yourself”. As the next generation ladies, I really wanted to tell you that YOU are what’s wrong with America. The “I don’t get paid for it” attitude and sub-optimal work ethic sets us all up for low standards. I work HARD for my money I spent at the cafe employing you. I couldn’t imagine telling one of my patients “Sorry, no coffee for you. I don’t get paid for that.” And as for not expecting things… I won’t expect basic customer service if you don’t expect tips and 20 dollars an hour for your complaint-filled service or...
Read moreA Hidden Gem That Feels Like Home. We stumbled upon this bakery last week and I'm already planning our second visit! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the most welcoming staff who treat you like an old friend rather than just another customer. The atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between cozy and inviting - it genuinely feels like stepping into someone's warm kitchen where you're always welcome. Now, let's talk about the croissants. I consider myself somewhat of a croissant connoisseur, and I can honestly say these are the crunchiest, most perfectly executed croissants I've ever encountered. The exterior shatters beautifully with each bite, giving way to those gorgeous, buttery layers inside. But the real showstopper is their almond croissant - absolutely divine. The almond cream is rich but not overpowering, with just the right amount of sweetness, and those sliced almonds on top add the perfect textural contrast. What really sets this place apart, though, is how the staff makes you feel. They remember your order, ask about your day, and genuinely seem to care about creating a positive experience. Combined with the comfortable seating and that wonderful "home away from home" vibe, this bakery has become my new favorite spot for both quick coffee runs and leisurely weekend mornings. If you're looking for exceptional pastries served with genuine warmth and hospitality, this is your place. I can't recommend it...
Read moreRestaurant floor is filthy. That croissant was good but the filling was gross you should not be prefilling a croissant and sticking it in a microwave. (Pat a choux) puff pastry with cream. Was filled with corn starch custard instead of creme anglais and whipped cream. Pumpkin cheese cake. The crust was soggy and tasted of chemicals The cheese itself tasted like it was from food Maxx then the layer of sour cream (New York) why would you include this on a pumpkin cheese cake. And the pumpkin layer was straight disgusting it was a mouth full of nutmeg. Whipped cream on the cheese cake had a stabilizer added to it my guess is cream of tartar......so lazy you can't finish the cheese cake as it goes out??????? And your latte. I'm sorry but this was the worst thing you served me and I had such high hopes. You cannot let espresso shots sit ever. The moment the brew is completed it needs to be mixed or your espresso turns bitter. If I could give less stars I would. I wish you all the best good luck. We...
