Ok, right off the rip, When I saw this place I was excited because I desperately want Real Texas BBQ (Heck Real American BBQ period!) to make it here in Southern California.. I was really excited when I saw their nice offset smoker...but it was sitting there idle... *I think a lot of Californians learned how to smoke meats watching YOUTUBE during the Covid Lockdown and are now low key backyard BBQ Meat Smoking Masters...you can get passably close to the real stuff on just a Weber Kettle. However, this isn't Pre-Covid SoCal, and we now know from watching the Youtubes, traveling, and sampling each others local backyard leftovers, what REAL TEXAS/American BBQ is supposed to taste like...This joint ain't it. Let's go down the list: I ordered the following (1/2 rack of pork ribs, 2 leg chicken leg quarters, 1 lb. of fatty brisket) because if the Meats suck then the sides aren't even justified in my opinion...
Texas BBQ this ain't. No craft sausages..Not even crap sausages, are you kidding me?! I've been to Texas...This leans more like KC BBQ (which I've visited as well) because of their sweet ketchupy sauce they serve...(I've had real Q at places like: Joes Original Gas Station, and Q38; Calling this KC BBQ would be an insult to KC BBQ). But we're talking Texas right? Half my family are Texans. Texas is renowned for it's Salt and Peppered Angus Fajitas, Craft Sausages, Ribs, Pulled Pork, and YES! Salt and Peppery Smoked Brisket. If you're not going to use Mesquite, Post Oak, Hickory, Pecan or hell even Fruit Wood smoke, with Salt and Pepper to sufficient amounts, then you get what I experienced, under seasoned, light smoked disappointment (don't let the 'smoke rings' fool you..I can make smoke rings happen with not much smoke on my backyard Weber Smokey Mountain and still taste smokier and more flavorful than this stuff...)
Pork Ribs: thin under-smoked over cooked mush...I'm not going to hold RTBBQ completely at fault since locally sourced California Pork is not up to the standards of the rest of the U.S.
Chicken, could've been the bright spot: It was passably seasoned. Still, If it hadn't been for the freaking chicken feather I had to pick out of my mouth I might have given this review a 3/5. They need to source their chicken better or be more mindful of their chicken prep. Also, there was red at the bone which means it was under cooked for my taste...
BBQ Sauce was ok, but leaned too much on ketchup for my taste. I still needed it to make some of this stuff palatable...
That said, I hope this place resets and understands that excellent retail BBQ is not just mechanics and profits; it's, passion, technique and art as well...We So Cal folks are now spoiled with good Backyard BBQ thanks to the lock-down...too spoiled now to tolerate overpriced subpar BBQ...
Please Get Better "Redlands Texas BBQ" I really want your...
Read moreGreat BBQ, service, and overall quality. We were looking for a nearby BBQ place after doing Apple Picking in Oak Glen and finding that the BBQ place there was too full/no parking. This spot is 20min away from the apple farms with ample parking as it sits right in front of a grocery store in a neighborhood plaza. As a party of 6 we were easily full with their Family Pack #1. The brisket was so good that we took an extra pound to go.
Pulled chicken: juicy, tender and oniony dark meat. Not like most bbq chicken I’ve had but still really good
Brisket: so tender, moist, melt in your mouth, great bark, just the right amount of smoke flavor to not be overpowering, even better with their sauce
Smoked turkey: prob my least fav, while juicy and tender I just wish it was more seasoned throughout the meat or had more Smokey flavor, was better w/bbq sauce
For the sides we tried bbq beans, mac n cheese, and potato salad. I’d recommend all of them, my favorite was the beans. I thought the mac and cheese and potato salad could use a lil more salt but that’s just my preference!
One more plus was their napkins! Unlike many outdoor bbq places who give flimsy thin napkins, they give thick large heavy duty napkins perfect for helping you eat all the delicious food!
The lemonade and sweet tea were perfect.
The chef/owner was so hospitable and introduced himself while we were eating outside, again, great service. Highly recommend if you’re...
Read moreFirst I want to start with saying I will be back to try again as this is a new place and they deserve a second chance as the get established. We tried everything but the French Fries and Cole slaw. With that said this review is mainly for the business:
BBQ sauce: SO vinegar forward. Needs to be way dialed back.
Chicken: Fatty and no flavor. Needs a lot more spice and probably a lot longer on the grill. Very slimy. 2/10
Pulled pork: cooked well, just bland. Probably the best of the meats. Not very fatty. Still needs more spice
Brisket: tastes the same as the pulled pork just more fatty with less flavor.
Mac and cheese: 7/10 really good in my opinion but I like Velveeta cheese so maybe I am bias.
Bean: weird .. too much pepper corn. A lot of meat so it could be it's own meal but it almost doesn't work together? I think maybe it's just the peppercorn throwing me off.
Potato: The potato was cooked well! Not a problem there. The stuff on top was all great too.
Both iced teas we had were great! (Sweet and unsweetened) Pretty good standard stuff there.
The girl that helped us at the front was very nice and helpful.
The prices were pretty high for what was offered but the 2 meat plate was quite a bit of food.
Overall, I think they have some room to improve but I am hoping they will listen to the reviews because it's a really great location and we all really want them...
