Redondo Beach is filled with hidden gems, and one of them is @captainkidds , situated along @visitkingharbor. This spot is unique as it lets you handpick your fresh seafood and watch as they prepare it right in front of you. With a wide variety of seafood options, you can’t go wrong with any choice, and they even offer a selection of wine and beer. It’s a family-friendly place just a walk away from a scenic view of the marina. #captainskid #redondobeacheats #redondobeach #visitkingharbor #redondobeachpier #visitredondo #goosbytwins

5 stars for the chowder! Showed up close to closing time. Just found this place while walking by and liked the look of the place. I asked the guy working the counter what they were known for and he recommended the tacos or fish and chips. Elected for the fish and chips. Added a bowl of New England clam chowder too. Saw a respectable tap beer selection and hard drinks on tap too. Had to add a mai tai since it was available for the novelty of it. He gave me a choice of 3 rums. Nice touch. Condiments bar is well stocked. Malt vinegar is in packets. Probably a covid thing. Verdict... Fish and chips plate was huge. Big portions of fish so you get your money's worth. Nothing to write home about, but was fresh and cooked properly. English style and thick pieces. No burnt ends on it. Hush puppies were a little small but good. Probably would try something else next time if I'm back in town. Clam chowder was in my top 3 of all time. I saw a bad review on it so I guess they don't know anything about New England style. I was eating this while scrolling through the reviews and got a chuckle out of it. Thick as pudding with big pieces of clam. Complex seasoning and heavy on ingredients cut into small pieces. You can tell this is the real deal. Only thing I really compare it to is what I had in Martha's Vinyard. Satisfaction wise at least. Better than what I've had in Nantucket or Seattle. I just added a sentence to the beginning of my review... 4 stars and one extra for the chowder.

A great place for some fresh seafood. Casual and clean dining area. It’s a very laid back atmosphere with plenty of seating. Plenty of parking in the area around the building or in the structure. When you come in, there are two lines, one for fresh seafood you want to take home and another line for dine-in. Good variety of fish if you wanted to take home and cook yourself If you’re ever in the mood for some fresh seafood, it’s been our go to for years. Their fish and chips are great. Pair with a nice beer and it’s a nice combo. We didn’t get them on this occasion but I can recommend it. Personally as I eat a lot of tuna and salmon during the week, I tend to opt for more of the “white” fish when I come here. Highly recommend the swordfish or halibut plates. They come with two choice of sides. I prefer to get corn on the cob and will usually alternate between Cole slaw or rice pilaf depending on my mood. I don’t get the veggies as they tend to come from frozen and not as fresh For the fish plates, I always go grilled with simple seasoning. It’s always cooked perfectly here. Their clam chowder is decent. Not the best but flavorful enough if you want a something warm with your meal. Popcorn shrimp is plenty for the portion. It’s a nice snack. Another dish I would recommend is their fried whole fish plate. We got the pompano and it’s a nice sized fish with plenty of meat on the bone. Sometimes it’s fun to “dig” into your food.

A Redondo Beach establishment, one to go out of your way to try... It's busy and hectic at peak times, but service is fast and efficient. You can stand on the "Market" line and choose your own fresh fish or shellfish, where they will weigh it and then have it cooked any way you like (suggested cooking method is listed in price card or you can ask them). Or you can wait in the "Restaurant" line and order from the set menu, which includes standards such as fish and chips, fish tacos, and grilled fish. Poke and side dishes are available. Seating area is large and on two levels, both are technically outside the building but both are covered year round with Permanent wood awning structure. They have their own parking lot (used to have to park at Marina lot and get validation, not any more) where you can park for 2 hours maximum for free. Dishes are served on compostable paper plates and you pick up your tray from the grill and sit down, cafeteria style. Water and cups are available for free, as are a selection of beers on tap. Prices are in the medium range: budget $20 per person with drinks for fish and chips. More for grilled salmon or swordfish steak, lobster roll, etc: $25 to $30... Every visit to the South Bay, I come here at least once, it's consistently good and I'm glad they are still around 40+ years.

Turns out, I was glad my phone order wasn't ready when I went to Captain Kidd's because I would have missed out on how courteous and friendly the staff is there. I got to sit down for a minute and enjoy the beautiful views they have from their restaurant and a delicious Cpt. Kidds Blonde beer. They have outside seating as well, which looked amazing. When I got up to wait for my order, employees were shuffling past and each of them looked me in the eye and shared a "Hello" or a nod & a smile of acknowledgement. What?! The gentleman who helped me, David was genuinely kind and apologetic for my order not being ready. He helped me be on my way and couldn't have been nicer. Now, imagine that the food was just as amazing as the staff. This place is top notch. I wish I had better pictures, but I guess you'll just have to take your family and see.

The restaurant was busy but very unorganized having different lines for different food items. The steamtable precooked seafood items were too salty. We ordered an clams and another of mussles. Broth was too oily & salty and was not drinkable. Corn was so overcooked that there were no flavor even with butter added. The Steamed (cooked to order food) was quite slow. We ordered 2 steamed local crabs, which was overcooked. It was cracked well a d easy to eat. Some lines need to get a number for service. The staff was not efficient and don't communicate with the customers. Lemon wedges were not offered for the seafood items. Not even wet wipes. Looking around, many people ordered their seafood items fried. Everyone had to wait in line for the unisex bathrooms just to wash their hands afterwards.
