I've come here occasionally over the years and have decided this last time will be the last. I don't like leaving bad reviews but I do it in case it can help someone to avoid a similar experience. Beware getting overcharged. Also make sure you get everything you ordered and were charged for on your receipt. I did not. I was really busy that week and didn't get a chance to call right away about getting charged for a crab I realized we didn't receive. When I called I was reassured someone would watch the camera footage and call me back within the next couple of days. Nobody called me back. If you're interested in learning from my mistakes, here are some tips.
In order to avoid getting a nasty shock when you are rung up for the live seafood: have them calculate the price before you agree to buy and do a rough calculation yourself with the weight and price on their sign. I foolishly did neither of these things. When the person initially rang me up for 2 crabs, a large lobster and the precooked spiny tail it was almost $600. I looked at my mom and we were in shock. He then fumbled around ringing it up between 2 registers and it went down to around $375. Definitely not worth it with the recommended dry precooked spiny tail lobster and missing crab. We decided we'd rather give our money to a nice seafood restaurant next time.
The person taking care of my order recommended the precooked spiny lobster. Do yourself a favor and stick to the live and freshly cooked seafood. Who knows how long it's been sitting there and it was very dry after they resteamed it to warm it up. We did get a huge lobster steamed which tasted much better. I learned I'd rather have gotten 2 smaller ones for easier opening. The huge ones are way too hard to crack with their super thick shells and claws. My wooden mallet top broke off. One good thing was the fried whole squid. Glad we tried that yelp advice.
After paying they said our numbers would get called but didn't call out the numbers.. we waited and waited thinking it odd that it was taking so long while it wasn't very busy. When we went back to the counter to ask if they were ready, that's when we got our orders that had just been sitting there.
I get that it's on me for not knowing what to order and for not meticulously checking my receipt at the time (my poor excuses: I was really hungry and tired, and my mom was the one that ordered the crabs).. It doesn't take away that we were not given our correct and full order, were almost overcharged $200, were advised to buy not good lobster, and received poor customer service - no followup and not...
Read moreHorrible service at pick up window....... I went there this past weekend. To check out their lobster meal deal. Its was cool, I got the lobster, a crab and ostyer. On the other side I got ceviche (it's was okay), fish and chips, a corn dog (two toddlers), clam chowder bowl (huge) and a little reef griller. So because I ordered the little reef, I had a return in 20 minutes within that time. I went to get my lobster and crab and I came back asked the guy in the blue shirts where to go, who was very cool, very helpful, willing to answer questions. ( in general they all where) When I went to order my fried/grilled foods, the young girls who attended me super nice, super sweet as well too. But when I went to pick up my order on the other side there were 2 men. There was a young man and an older man giving out the orders. I walked around where there were yellow poles, where I saw a crowd of people standing. I asked a lady, Hey, what's your number? She showed me number #52 , then I showed her mine. She's like oh your #50 and your name is blah They have been calling your number and your name. So I assumed since the people that are standing waiting by the yellow poles are waiting for their number to be called. So I could walk up to the counter and pick up my order. So I did.
The young man with the black hair ignored me on top of of that, he calls over the lady. Who I had asked the question about my number too? And gave her order first. Her order wasn't complete, so she still had to wait 5 more minutes. I stood there, expecting him to ask me for my number. A couple came over and just cut it front on the side of the window. And this young man again, with black hair, ignored me and helped him, and I told him, Hey, these people just cut here and we're not waiting. Why are you not attending me? And there was another gentleman behind me who had been also unattended and waiting there for a long time because No one took his name down or gave him a number when his order was taken .So all he had was his receipts.
I was completely disappointed by service that I received. Its was my 1st time there, I don't know what was up with that...
Read moreDefinitely some of the best seafood in Redondo Beach. It’s a really lively spot filled with people of all ages and types but everyone has at least one thing in common and that they are all eating some really delicious seafood. It’s right on the water attached to the Redondo Pier so it has great scenery and is a nice escape destination to have a meal. It was quite crowded when we arrived but the line moves pretty quickly and I only had to wait a few minutes for all of our food to be ready. It’s the sort of place where you order at the counter and they give it to you immediately or in a few minutes depending on what you order. You can also choose what fish you want and they will grill that for you, but there is a separate line for that. Then there is another line for any sort of drinks but that moves very quickly as well. They have tons of parking attached, but the easiest spot would be to park in the underground parking for the Redondo Pier and just walk down the steps, and it’s right there. Pricing is fair and they have a ton of great options on the menu, both grilled and fried and all sorts of other things.
It was hard to choose what I wanted to eat. I was at first going to do a lobster bisque bread bowl, but I decided on trying a few of their items based on a few other people who had ordered in front of me. We ordered the fish and chips, the shrimp and chips, and the boardwalk lobster roll. The fish and chips was absolutely fantastic. It’s some very large pieces of fish that are breaded and fried perfectly. Definitely some of the best fried fish I’ve had in a long time. The shrimp was also really good and were some actually very large pieces of shrimp. The lobster roll was a bit smaller than I would hoped for $22, and I wish it had larger lump meat pieces like they do at Broad Street, but it still had some great flavors.
Overall a really solid and casual seafood location. It is especially great for lunch or dinner. It’s easy to dine alone or in a very large group so it’s a great option on a lot of different occasions. I would recommend and I will try again next time I am...
