It’s a cozy Thai eatery with a good measure of authenticity, spoiled only by that pesky crab rangoon 😡 which did NOT originate from and does NOT exist in any country of Asia. For this otherwise very pleasant eatery with outstanding service👏👏👏, the flavors are however hit-or-miss🫤🫤🫤. ***The Combo App is a good way to test flavors. 😡 The Crispy Veg Rolls are tasteless and very oily. 😊The Dumplings are well seasoned, but missing authentic Thai flavors. 😊😊😊 The Satay is as flavorful as should be! 😡😡😡 The dipping sauces however sugary, missing the balancing chili kick and umami flavor of fish sauce. Thanks to table chili paste, mixing it with sauces rescued the Appetizers. ***There’s a good menu of familiar Thai comfort foods as well as some house “specialties”. 😊😊😊The Crispy Basil Duck is outstanding. It has all the aroma and flavors that are uniquely Thai. 😡😡😡 The Kay Soi (Khao Soi) is the worst version I’ve ever tasted. It’s very sweet, lacking the flavor/aroma of Thai spices. ***A very dismal attempt on the Northern Thai gustatory treasure***. IT WENT BACK TO THE KITCHEN. 😊 Expressing my dislike of sweet entrees, the waitress recommended Kee Mow. With chicken and extra veggies, it’s indeed very good. 😡😡😡😡😡 A major issue: There’s no real Thai chili heat despite orders of level 5 and 7 out of the supposed scale of 1 -10. NOTE: It is a fallacy to equate “spicy” with “chili hot”. Spices are multiplicity of flavors and aromas, mostly from plants, chilies are a minor component of true spiciness. ☕️☕️☕️ Jasmine Tea is a terrific way to cleanse the palate and stimulate gastric juices DESPITE the hit-or-miss flavors. IF AND ONLY IF the cook tempers the sweetness, fortify the Thai flavors and correctly add the chili heat, this eatery will be lifted up the culinary scale!!!

Very good Thai food and definitely some of the best in the area! Today's order was pretty simple: just pad Thai and Thai custard with sticky rice. The food was very reasonably priced at just $18 for the two items. I loved my pad Thai. It came in a pretty decent portion with an excellent price. It was a bit sweet, which is the way I like it. There's also a hint of lemon flavor. The protein I selected was chicken, and you don't have to pay extra for it. There's plenty of meat in here, but not too much. The meat was fine flavor wise, but not amazing. A little chewy. The noodles were great, though. It wasn't too oily or too dry like in most other Thai places. It was just the right amount of sauce and moisture, and the perfect sweet/salty balance. The sprouts added a bit of crunch, and your could taste the little pieces of egg. Highly recommend, 4.5/5. The Thai custard was also quite good. The portion was fair and the coconut milk was flavorful, with some black seeds as a topping. The custard itself was a bit on the eggy side, though. The rice was sticky enough and had good flavor. 3.8/5 All in all, I'd definitely come back here. The food is reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. For a low spiced pad Thai, this was excellent, and the sticky rice is fairly good too.

Thai Cottage is one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh, and definitely my favorite Thai restaurant in the city. From curries, to fried rice and noodle dishes, their entrees have always been delicious. Most recently, we ordered pineapple fried rice, Massaman curry, and Thai custard. They have been one of the few places from which we have ordered takeout during the pandemic. We like them that much. Also, a pleasant surprise that they are now using compostable and recyclable to-go containers (no more Styrofoam!!).

Wow - supprized I haven't shared my review for this gem yet! Thai cottage has some amazing dishes and the whole experience here is quite welcoming and wholesome. The owner is often present in the front of the house and she's always fun and energetic. Overall this place is a 10/10 and worth your stop, dishes here are on the sweeter side usually but this tends to enhance their flavors rather than become overpowering.

What you need to try:

Basil Tilapia - fantastic dish with bell peppers, onions, and fried tilapia morsels in a sweet salty sauce with plenty of Thai basil throughout

Basil duck - similar to above but more fatty and with lovely duck pieces

Pumpkin curry - not actually pumpkin but a sweet Asian squash that's both firm and soft with a pleasant buttery sweet flavor (we've made our own version of this at home because it's amazing and we can't eat out every day)

Panag Curry - typical Thai dish with really good flavor. Crowd pleaser for sure!

Pumpkin custard - do NOT order this if you're already stuffed, I've yet to leave any on the plate. It's honestly a top 10 all time desert for me. Consider treating yourself just once to see...
