First and foremost, Id like to get the good stuff out of the way. The restaurant and staff were very clean, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the building. For that they earned a star. Now, the bad: parking is very competitive and the alleyway you have to maneuver through coming off of Virginia street is tight. Granted, I cannot fault the restaurant staff or owners for this, but it is worth noting.
Food is overpriced for what you get. Quality of food is on par with chain steakhouses like Outback, but at more than double the price. We got the NY strip and Fillet with the butter herb sauce. The meat was fairly bland, and was only saved by the butter sauce. Sides are not included in the price of the steak and cost an extra $4 each, which puts the total cost of the cheapest steak meal with 2 sides at $44. Granted, its a 10oz steak, but its a mediocre steak with small sides. At Texas Roadhouse, you can get a 12oz NY strip with 2 sides included for $21.99. Now, I'd be willing to pay a higher price for a better steak, but there is not a significant enough jump in quality to justify the price increase.
Service was also lacking. The Biggest Little Steakhouse operates like a fast food joint, where you order at the cashier's desk or through your phone. Then when your order is ready, it is brought out to you. Normally, you wouldn't tip in a fast food restaurant because of how much self service you have to do. It is much the same here. This also makes it difficult to enjoy the close, intimate atmosphere, as your have to leave your company at the table to order if you don't want to go through the app.
Additionally, the POS (point of sales) system used for mobile ordering is unintuitive, and difficult to navigate due to its poor design and the shear amount of menu items that the app makes no effort to categorize for you. Just as an example, the submenu titles are lighter than the submenu items, which is the exact opposite of how a list should be organized, as it makes it very easy to skip over the section tiles, and end up in a completely different section of the menu than the one you intended to find. This is the exact opposite of what basic signage and UI principals teach, as the submenu titles are supposed to be bigger and higher contrast than the items in the submenu. If I were the Biggest Little Steakhouse, I would seriously consider redesigning the mobile menu because it actively detracts from the experience of dining in their restaurant.
Overall, while none of the issues I've stated are bad on their own, when combined in a restaurant that charges ~$50/ person, I cannot recommend the Biggest Little Steakhouse because the combined experience simply does not...
Read moreThe food here is absolutely fantastic ,five stars all the way. Every detail is done right, from the butter melting over the steak to the perfectly prepared mushrooms and tender fillets. It’s the kind of meal that makes you forget everything else for a moment.
The first time we came in, the experience was unforgettable. There was a man playing guitar softly in the corner, the room was candlelit, and the whole atmosphere felt personal and worth every penny. On top of that, the wait staff guided you through the menu, describing specials, explaining how dishes were prepared, and painting a picture of each plate before it even hit the table. That level of service elevated the food to another level and made it the perfect place to bring out-of-towners to show off Reno’s hidden gem.
There really isn’t a bad waitstaff here. Everyone we’ve dealt with has been pleasant and professional. But Brian stands out as the exception to almost every rule in the restaurant industry. The way he describes the food can make your mouth water just listening to him, and he adds that personal touch that defines fine dining.
Unfortunately, the restaurant has shifted to a phone-based ordering model. You either order from your phone or go up to the counter, they hand you a number, and then someone drops off your food. It feels exactly like Carl’s Jr. , way to take it from classy to dubby in 30 seconds flat. No one describes the menu, no one shares the specials, no one explains how the steaks are cut, cooked, or plated. We understand this change may have started during COVID, but we’re out of that now and we’d love to see fine dining return here. By going this route, the restaurant has lost that attractive niche that once made it stand out.
That said, the food itself still earns five stars, and it’s worth planning for. Seating is limited, so get there early, make a reservation, and enjoy what will still be one of the best meals you’ll find anywhere. If they ever returned to their original model and put more Brians on the floor this would truly live up to the name of the Biggest...
