I really wanted to like this place. I've been excited for weeks to try it and I am the perfect demographic they are aiming at. We used to eat this type of seafood weekly before we moved to Reno, and have been begging for a place to open up just like this (currently Crawfish over by Costco is the only place we found that does similar). But with all that in mind I doubt I will go back.
To start, we ordered shrimp, mussels, and clams. Plus sides of corn and sausage (more on that later)
First the good, the shrimp were great. Amazing even. Perfectly cooked and massive. If I did go back again this would probably be exclusively what I would eat as that was definitely worth the cost. But that pretty much ends the positivity I have about this place.
The negative, virtually everything else about the food. We ordered the food online to be picked up and were quoted a 30 minute wait. We arrived 15 minutes early and our food was already waiting... And already lukewarm. Great. So now driving 15 minutes home and getting set up means that by the time we are finally eating our food it's pretty much cold. All right, maybe that's our fault for trying to not eat indoors during covid but honestly even if this was the only problem I still would have been severely disappointed. Not to mention had we waited the full 30 minutes they quoted it would have been twice as bad.
We got the shrimp in the Cajun jalapeno flavor and that was okay for a base, but we got the clams and mussels in sriracha cheese and garlic butter and I tell you what... Absolutely bland. Virtually no flavor at all, which for something titled sriracha kind of blew my mind a little. On top of that the muscles were severely overcooked and rubbery (surprising considering how perfectly the shrimp were cooked) and the clams WERE NOT EVEN CLEANED PROPERLY!! Seriously, every bite of clam had some sort of sand or grit in it. We ended up having to dump the entire bag since nobody wanted to go through that. $30 worth of seafood thrown in the trash because of improper preparation. It was heartbreaking.
Which leads me to my next biggest complaint, pricing. This place is absolutely gouging the hell out of everything on the menu. I understand with the pandemic prices have rose a bit to compensate and I am more than willing to support my local businesses above and beyond what is normal to keep them afloat but when they charge $4 for sides of Cajun sausage and an additional $4 for a side of corn... Sides that typically come included with the entree at virtually every other bagged seafood place we have gone to... Only to have literally three tiny pieces of corn (less than one ear) and four diagonal slices of sausage (again, less than one sausage) is outrageous. We paid $8 on top of every entree we got for maybe a dollar's worth of product. And to top it off, the sausage itself was bottom shelf, completely bland with zero Cajun flavor. Absolutely unacceptable. Also, be extremely careful with how much food you order since they price by the pound and some of the products shell to meat ratio is extremely low. Half pound of muscles really only equated to five or six half shells, which any sushi place in town will only charge a couple bucks for. This isn't really abnormal in the bagged seafood world but it was disappointing nonetheless, especially in light of having to throw out all of our clams.
All in all to say I am disappointed is an understatement. Perhaps I built up the hype too much in my head before going but considering Reno has been needing one of these places forever, to have it provided in such an obvious money grubbing and low quality fashion is devastating. Stay away from this place until the owners get their act together and provide a service that is actually appropriate for their...
Read moreWe were a party of four. We dined in. Our server was enthusiastic and helpful in the beginning. Then after we ordered, saw her periodically helping other tables and she refilled our tea one time. She was not the one to deliver our food or ask how it was. Several servers, including the hostess attended to any needs we needed. I still tipped her $30 but was apprehensive because she did not tend to us the entire time. I was raised in Louisiana. The food is subpar. The seasonings were close, but my food was drowning in the bag and was difficult to eat. The oysters were not good and the seasoning is a little funky. The shrimp was outstanding, but the crawfish were so small And not really worth ordering because of the size. If I had it to do again, I would have Chosen another protein in my bag. I asked for Tabasco for my husband’s clam chowder and they told me it would be an up charge of a dollar. I also asked for lemons And was once again was told that it would be an up charge. I thought that was a little strange, considering it’s specifically a seafood restaurant and lemons And hot sauce is a standard in any seafood restaurant I’ve ever been in! Sure, enough, when I receive the bill, it absolutely was on there. That alone would deter me from coming back because how ridiculous! I had to ask for drawn butter and the little hostess girl was the one I had to ask, and when she came back, she acted like that was uncommon for me to ask for drawn butter to go with my crab. They also did not offer any bread or salads And again charged me an up charge of $3.50 to swap out my fries for sweet potato fries. Up charge up charge up charge, Yikes! I would not recommend this restaurant as it is quite overpriced for what you get and I would just spend the same amount driving to the Bay Area to get real seafood! Plus, the fact that besides the shrimp everything tasted Pre-frozen. I will not ever go back here nor will I ever...
Read moreI'll start by praising the food - I had a delicious meal with QUALITY seafood in an authentic way (served in bag on a paper tablecloth). However my first visit felt panged with what I can only write off as growing pains. Operating at 25% capacity, most of the tables were full. Our server apologized that the bartender was behind and we got our drinks (a beer and 2 cocktails) after our apps and main course arrived. Lobster Mac app - yummy! Large portion with lots of lobster. Very filling. Sweet potato fries - delicious! Perfectly cooked. No aoli however? Was offered ketchup or ranch. They were just fine on their own and really helped cut the heat of our boils. Both orders of boil came with error. My Scallops and Clams (+potato/sausage) were served Scallops and Mussels, and the crawdads and potatoes were served as crawdads only. Our server was quick to correct these, and the kitchen was even quicker to bring out what we missed. Honestly the mussels were phenomenal so maybe it was a happy accident. I LOVED the potatoes and cajun sausage. Wasn't crazy for the Sriracha cheese blend, ordered it Hot and it was more cheesy than tangy Sriracha. When my replacement clams came out, the mix was /drastically/ spicier (visually redder in color), even though I had requested the same blend. All in all, I want to return! I loved the food and look forward to trying all the mixes! But based on my first visits inconsistency, I'll make sure to double...
